Dinaari AED Report 1/4/2006

_I've had a few debates over the past few days with several different command peers (and former-command) about how much effort is enough to keep a group (like Dinaari) ticking over nicely. _

Do I need to write such a long, informative report if few members even read it? Should I make sure that I hit my deadlines if no one will probably notice anyway? Should I carry on running competitions even if it gets low participation? Do I have to be quite so anal with my activity reports? Now I'm in command should I even try and compete with the general activity of regular members? Should I write overly long introductions to reports?

_The main question is *"Should I put so much effort for such little reward?" **I argued that *"Yes, it is worth it" **if all that extra effort improves things even in just a small way. Little things are hardly noticed, but they are never ignored. These little things add up and people start to realise that things are good, better even, but can't put their finger on exactly why. _

_This goes for everyone. From the Apprentices starting out, to the Journeymen working their way up the ranks and even the members way past DJK. Everything you do is noticed and given recognition. _

*If you're not a very good writer and probably won't win a medal, take part! *
I'll enjoy reading it, you'll have created an interesting story and characters that's developed in your mind and you'll get practice to win another time.

*If you're not very good at a multiplayer game, take part! *
I just got beaten 15-1 in JA today ...but it was still fun, got a CF for playing 3 matches and I learnt a lot (my first JA kill!)

*If you're not able to be very active, take part in what you can! *
Pop in and see us in IRC even if it's only for 15 minutes, or start your own projects that you can work on in your spare time (I have a fiction project I do just for when I'm on leave), and don't forget to email me to tell me of your current status so I can cater for your DJB needs.

*...if there is something you can do well, then do it!!! *
Why not tell me what your interests and skills are and we'll find something fun and interesting for you to do? Want to write non-fiction stuff, create websites, create graphics, do something in programming, or anything else that interests you...email me! Either I'll find a fun project for you or know someone who already has one.

_So this week, find something to do and just do it! Even if that activity is just emailing me to find out what you can do. You'll feel more energised and engaged... and others will notice this activity too fuelling their own efforts. _

_I don't ask for 100% of your time and energy...just what you can spare so we can convert it into fun! _

_All of these little things add up. _

Dinaari News

Odium promoted to Jedi Hunter

**Apollyon "Odium" Dinaarius **has become the first member to be promoted to **Jedi Hunter **under our new promotion system. To qualify for promotion Odium had to pass two tasks and compete in a House, Clan and DJB-wide competition. So after getting 30 Cluster of Fires, writing up a section of the Taldryan Fictional Development topics and having such high activity week after week (taking care of the competitions criteria too) we were very happy to give Odium the rank that he deserves.

Now we just have to come up with something really difficult for his Dark Jedi Knight trials.

Kir returns home

With the former Deputy Grand Master **DA Kir Taldrya Katarn **leaving his lofty position he had to find somewhere to go. There was only one place. Dinaari. Home.

DJB Competitions

Monthly Topic

In honour of the new due date, both topics are loosely based on the third anniversary of the split.

Story: Change one thing

Think back to the times of the split. Now, at this turning point of history, change one detail. Maybe someone gets killed during the Exodus, maybe one person in the seven is replaced with someone else, maybe Ronin does dismiss Astatine... Now, with that one thing changed, come back to the (likely quite different) now and write a story in the changed universe.

**IMPORTANT UPDATE: **Since there's been a few justified comments that not everybody might know their way around the split history, you may substitute another important event in your DB history. Since that's however a completely different piece of cake and not really comparable, I will judge those entries separately from those dealing with the split. So in essence, you now have three MTs instead of two. You can enter separate stories for both versions of the story topic if you want.END UPDATE

Please place the explanation of the change you made at the END of the story, not at the beginning. (You don't need to explain it as part of the story, a separate explanation is fine) Ideal stories will depict the new universe well enough that the change can be deducted. This should be a serious (and likely anti-utopic) story.

Minimum 2 pages (7000 characters)

Poem: Three

It's been three years since the split. On the night of the anniversary, you have a vision related to the number three. Is it the Force telling you something or just the bad booze you drunk ?

Rules: Any poetry form, but your poem's structure must somehow reflect the number three. Three lines per stanza, three words per line, three syllables per word or something completely different - just make the 3 obvious. Humour is permissible if you follow the rules.

Minimum 81 words.

Send your entries to [Log in to view e-mail addresses] with subject "Monthly Story Topic" or "Monthly Poem Topic".

Due date: APRIL 11, 2006, 11:59 PDT.

Jac will release (or have someone release) the next MTs on April 1, so there will be an overlap and you'll have two topics running at once. So don't start too late.

Interclub Training Event (ICTE) : Multiplayer ALL Platforms

The times have changed! ICTE is now on every Saturday in #outerrim between 7am and midnight (EST). That's noon til 5am for those of you on GMT.

ALL Star Wars platforms are used. Please read the website before you first compete...there is a signup bot that must be used to arrange matches and the site will explain how to use it.

http://icte.starwarsalliance.com/

Tuesday and Thursday Multiplayer Gaming : All Platforms

If you go to #gmrg on a Tuesday (1am til 11.59pm EST ...all day) you'll find a solo multiplayer competition for 1v1s and in #gmrg on a Thursday (all day again) for team-based multiplayer (CTF, 2v2, etc).

There is no signup bot in #gmrg ...just get chatting to arrange a match yourself.

Just a note that there is a similar day of multiplayer on a Sunday once every 2 weeks for people who have played a match in any of the above multiplayer competitions (including ICTE) during the 2 weeks prior. It is in #gmrg too and you'll have to check the db.com news page to see when it is on and if you are eligible.

Antei Combat Centre

Always on offer is the ACC where you can go kick some ass in a friendly 1v1 run-on. There are quite a few Shadow Academy courses about ACC that you'll have to do first, so you can set up your character sheet, learn the rules and do a training match before you get into the complicated world of ACC proper.
