Grand Master Report

<-

Greetings everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend! I wanted to get out this mini-report prior to my Shamrocking St. Patrick's day party.

The Rite of Supremacy is in full swing and the activity has been unbelievable. I have over 1000 Multiplayer Game submissions in my email account and I pity the poor ACC staff and the load of work that is on their shoulders. I can't wait to see the fiction and Battle Plans and look forward to seeing what Clan can debate their way into the second round.

Rite of Supremacy Rules

Quality vs Quantity: The Dark Brotherhood has a history of having two very different ideological groups when it comes to major competitions. On one side we have a group of members who believe competitions should be won by those who are the most active and on the other side we have a group of members who believe competitions should be won by those who win events.
When we sat down to discuss the rules for this RoS, we decided that we wanted a blend of Quality and Quantity events. Three of our events would be based on Quantity and two of our events would be based on quality.
The MP Ladders, ACC Competition, and Fiction Competition all weigh heavily on participation (though, Quality is very important and a less active Clan could win if they have superior quality!). The Debate and Battle Plan are quality events. This mix of quality and quantity is designed to play to the strengths and weaknesses of the Six Clans.

Lessons Learned: Quality vs Quantity: If anything, the Dark Council should learn from their mistakes. If I were to say that the RoS was the most perfectly planned event with the most expertly designed rules in the history of the DB, I would be an arrogant jackass.
So far, I have received two different sets of complaints concerning the RoS. These complaints have come from both the Quality and the Quantity camps. Some feel the competition is based on too much quality and some believe it is based on too much quality.
So what does this tell me? Well it tells me we got a little right and a little wrong. We want the competition to be perfect for everyone in the DB and we are going to work to improve upon it, but at the same time....if both camps are complaining about polar opposites...well...we must have a little right too.

Great Jedi War: Rules: Fortunately or Unfortunately the GJW is nothing like the RoS. That should make some of you happy and some of you sad.

Great work: I want to encourage everyone to keep up the great work and continue their high level of activity. Remember, Clans are not the only winners of this event. Individuals will be crowned champions for winning particular events. Prestige and a nice award ceremony await those champions..

Lessons learned x 2: I forgot to put up the deadline on the Battle Plan at the start of the competition. Doh! That won't happen again!!

Week in Review:

 1. 1500+ Emails Received.

Ugh!

Grand Master notes

Quick notes on the Fiction Competition:

Fiction Length: I have removed the maximum length cap on fiction. If you want to write 20 pages, go ahead. Just know that three pages of excellent fiction will beat 20 pages of crap.

Complaining: I appreciate the guys complainging about the rules. In every case they have been polite and sent in suggestions for fixing the rules. Based off of these suggestions, a few things have changed. Thanks for squaring me away.

Done!

Contact me if you need me. If you see me away on mIRC, still leave me a message. I get back to everyone
