Bloodfyre gets spontaneous

Yep. I got spontaneous, and the DB will profit from it. I just bought a 6-player JA server. It should be set up in 2-3 days, so when I have all the info, I'll make another announcement. I figure, a small server should work for now, since it's so new, but I may upgrade later.

As a sidenote, Gryffon is still hosting the CSK server for JO, which has been appreciated. Since JO is still such a huge part of the Obelisk, if anyone wants to donate, and help out with the cost for everyone being able to benefit from that, get in touch with Gryffon. I'm sure he wouldn't mind the assistance with the cost.

Sith,

Email me, brother. If you want to upgrade, I'll split the costs with you. I think a JA server is an EXCELLENT idea, and I'd love to help.

As a sidenote, I pay for a butt-ton of server space, and have alot of bandwidth...is there a way we can set up our OWN server?

Also...does anyone know if JA supports Teamspeak? It would be cool to taunt with real voice in game =)

But really Sith, email me. I'd love to help out with this project.

ANY game supports teamspeak if you use Roger Wilco, i suppose.

Just thought i would mention this. IMHO RW uses too much ram sometimes. When I was in a certan Raindow Six 3 clann we all used a progie called ventrillo voice. And i must say, the sound quality is way better, and it uses less recources than RW. her's a link for interested parties to check it out. And a JA server is sweet :P

Just for clarification:

Teamspeak is not an all-inclusive term...it's actually a program. Teamspeak is MUCH better than Roger Wilco, which is about as old as you can get...it's like comparing string-and-can technology (RW) to satellite iridium telephones (Teamspeak).

Also, not all games support Teamspeak or Roger Wilco. Believe me, I have found it out the hard way =)

I will look into the Ventrillo thing. Sounds interesting....if their server setup and sound quality are better than Teamspeak, I may just put it on my server for DB use.

I know in WWII Online, Unreal, Anarchy Online, and a few other games I was active in, Teamspeak worked extremely well, and absorbed little bandwidth on the user end. The Teamspeak Server carried the load.

We'll see, though.

have you guys ever heard of a telephone

Khobai,

Hehe...yes, phones are those slow things that the internet used to run over, ages ago =)

Can you imagine the long distance bill if we all did a conference call while online? hehehhehe

lol i used to run over a phone line. now cable helps a ton. but a T1 line i think dominates. dont u?

Indeed it does!

`Da_Cheat pets his Cable
I still wuv ya.

Ok folks -
TeamSpeak and any issues are all relative to your machine. I use Teamspeak almost every day, even if I'm not in a game. My machine has basically: 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM, GeForce 4 4200. It has caused NO trouble with performance while I have played the following games:

  • RTCW:ET
The game I play most. Run at 1280x1024, servers with 40 players, I have not seen any slow down caused by TS. TS is clear, game runs fine.

  • Jedi Outcast
Last night I was playing against Cyris Oscura and talking to 3 friends through TeamSpeak with no problems in-game. TS is clear, game runs fine.

  • Battlefield 1942
I play this one quite a bit on a server that has about 50 players and bots at a time. My settings are nearly cranked as high as they get and I never suffer. TS is clear, game runs fine.

  • Neverwinter Nights
Again, the settings are about as high (graphically) as one can set them. TS is clear, game runs fine.

  • Unreal Tournament 2003
Though I haven't played this in a while, we had no problems while playing in CTF and Invasion boards with about 20 people. TS is clear, game runs fine.

The only thing about TS is you need a server machine to run the server client.

I can call anywhere in the United States for free with my cell phone :P
