Clan Plagueis Proconsul Report

Introduction

My first week as proconsul was certainly an eventful one. As you all know, the Rite of Supremacy is now well underway, and Plagueis has made a better showing in this competition so far than it did in the last Great Jedi War - a good sign, considering we placed last in that major battle. Unfortunately, our success has been marred by discontent and conflict within the clan itself. You all know the issues, and many of you have voiced your opinions. Know that your concerns have not fallen on deaf ears.

I spent much of the past week speaking privately with members and leaders of the clan, trying to understand members' concerns and leaders' actions. The clan and house summits are working on finding solutions to many of the problems brought up by you, the members. As many commented over the mailing list, we seem to have lost a sense of community in Clan Plagueis. How that happened, I don't know. What I do know is that mistakes were made; personalities clashed; issues went unresolved; discontent festered.

Moving forward, all of us need to make an effort to diffuse conflict before it erupts. Take a step back before jumping n someone - maybe you misunderstood a comment. If you're having a bad day, think through what you say and how you interpret emails and conversations on IRC - maybe your mood is clouding your better judgement. Also, please, please, please, don't assume that comments directed at you are insults, or that members of this clan are intentionally berating you. Most importantly, never - never - assume that insults are the only way to get through to people. Insults only lead to the sort of bickering we've all been witness to this week. Those of you who are committed to this clan, those of you who want a family here, those of you who are with us to enjoy the company of other Star Wars fans, those of you who love to create for the sake of creating, and those of you who live to imagine new possibilities: work with me; work with us.

Rite of Supremacy

There's been quite a bit of gaming by members of the clan, and we're in a solid 4th place position in the gaming ladder. We progressed to the second round of debate, and have completed our portion of the debate ahead of the deadline - everyone please thank Seti, Aabs, and Mayda for their hard work on this round of the debate! Unfortunately, as most of you know, we did not make it into the second round of the battle plan competition. We can speculate all we want, but what really matters is that those of us involved have learned a lot about these events and will use that information to place the clan higher in future battle plan competitions.

There's been no word yet on round one fiction scores, but round two ends tomorrow night, so get to it! As for the ACC, please remember to post within the alloted time. We've lost way too many matches because people simply didn't post.

Conclusion

To end this preachy report, I'd like to touch on one specific issue that has upset several people...

The Covenant says that when a member has issues with a specific leader, then that member should take his/her concerns to that leader's superior. While Orz and I are perfectly okay with you bringing us your suggestions, comments, and concerns, please understand that, in many cases, Quaestors, Aediles, and other leaders about whom you might complain to us can more easily address your concerns than we can. If you feel in someway threatened and would prefer anonymity, then by all means come talk to us, but so much conflict and stress can be avoided by just plainly, politely explaining your concerns to the offending party.
