Quaestor Report

A hooded figure stumbled through the crowd collected in the Grand Hall of the Dragon's Citadel. Its features were completely hidden underneath purple cloth trimmed with blue. The figure staggered and pushed past the people around him with the gait of a drunk. However, it was merely a fa ├žade designed to keep away curious onlookers who may get too close. The Epis let out a deep breath as he burst out of the throng of people and headed towards to the turbolifts that would bring him to the fifth floor and the safety of his office. When he had heard that Proconsul Phoenix Olkyssagh Palpatine had planned a party at the Dragon's Citadel on Antenora, he hadn't expected so many people. At first, he had played the part of friendly host, but when more and more people started showing up, he got extremely nervous about the sanity of his brother Palpatine. 'Why did he invite so much people?' he wondered as the turbolift carried him up. 'Crazy fool...' The turbolift came to a stop and deposited its cargo on the fifth floor. The Epis walked quickly to his office and opened the door. He sat at his desk and rested his elbows on the tabletop scattered with papers. He rubbed his temples slowly with his fingers as he blocked out the raucous mass of people downstairs from his mind. RevengeX picked up a clean piece of paper and twirled a pen around on his right hand before gripping it. 'Best get to that report while I'm still alive,' the Palpatine chuckled as he began to write...

INTRODUCTION:

Some of you may be wondering why my report is so late... there's quite a story to it actually, but I'll omit it from my report for length's sake. If you want to hear my excuse, ask me on IRC.

Greetings all! After the Rite of Supremacy, a lot of people were awarded promotions or medals. As always, work continues in my office and real life is pretty hectic, but fortunately slowing down. Of course, this is the calm before the storm... final exams, the itchiness to get out of school and go on vacation... you all know how that goes. ;)

In other news, there have been a lot of developments and announcements. Read further!

CLAN NEWS:

The CSP Summer Games will begin soon! After that, HAD will be hosting its own competition based on a unique storyline that will be the base for upcoming developments.

In other news, it's been pretty quiet. I'm working on re-writing the Clan Artifacts' descriptions because they are horribly confusing and I had a very difficult time understanding them.

Oh yea, read (and make sure you understand) Braecen's recent emails about requesting competitions! These rules are essential if you want to request competitions for a unit you are not DIRECTLY in charge of.

HOUSE NEWS:

Many, many promotions and medals!

Congrats to Gavan and Laurus on their promotions to DJK! Big congrats to Impetus for KAP! Demious was promoted to NOV and then ACO, Malkorvik made it to PRT, Xathia was promoted to GRD, Dark Scythe was promoted to NOV, and I was promoted to KE! Congratulations everyone!

A big congrats to Nathaniel on his new Grand Cross, Siyavash on her Steel Cross, Ood on his Anteian Cross, and many others on Crescents and Clusters of Fire!

To those of you who haven't noticed yet, a new Battleteam has been opened up for members of the "Mandalore" family ONLY. It's temporary name is "Mandalore Guard" until we can get a better idea. DJK Gavan Sykes Mandalore is leading this BT and I look forward to working with him. Having families be exclusively in BTs is an idea that the Clan Summit and I have been musing over for a while. If you are interested in joining the BT, you must contact Gavan and I.

Remember, stay active and Gaming Nights, competitions, and the ICTE are a great way to do that!

ORDER OF THE DRAGON:

It is with great pride that I hereby induct Krath Priestess Siyavash Kaida into the Order of the Dragon as a member of the Dragon Seraphim and a Third Class member of the Order!

For those of you who don't know, Siya seems to have a knack for mentoring others: she, as a former Knight Commander of the Brotherhood, trained Envoys and she is also helping to spearhead our Clan's development in the new ACC training system. She also earned four Seals of Darkness, a Steel Cross, and two Dark Side Scrolls, for contributions to the DV's Exodus edition, over this month of April.

Congratulations, Siyavash! :)

HOUSE DIRECTION:

T-E-A-M! TEAM! Go... go... go TEAM! GO ACCLIVIS DRACO!

ahem

Perhaps the concept of "FAMILY" has been preached before numerous times in the Clan... but what about "TEAM"?

Although the two seem similar, they have a VERY distinct difference, in my personal opinion.

When one thinks of a family, one generally thinks of a hierarchy in which there is a father at the top and children at the bottom. The higher one gets in this ladder, the older and more experienced this person generally seems to be. At the bottom (children), there are generally very young, inexperienced people.

But when one thinks of a team, one generally thinks of a place where, although "officially" equal, people look up to others WITHOUT a strict ladder.

A TEAM atmosphere is one which I hope to create in House Acclivis Draco. Even though we are a family, we are a family with a team's ideals: To work together to prosper, develop, improve, and win.

To do this, we must get rid of the "Old Members = Lay-Z + Inactive" and the "New Members = n00bz + Lifeblood" beliefs. Despite what you may think, these beliefs still exist in this House, and Clan. Why don't we just have a "Members = Teammates" belief? That is what we must strive for.

It doesn't really matter if a single individual is incredibly active if no one else in their unit is. That is what I believe and that is what I will preach.

We need to be active as a unit and not as a group of individuals. Believe it or not, these are different things as well.

So how about it? Want to be part of a team?

HOUSE PROJECTS:

Post your ideas on the thread in the House forum, http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3614, or send an email my way. I'll consider all your suggestions and respond to you ASAP.

I'm detailing my progress in a blog, so if you have nothing else to do, please read it: http://dbrevengex.blogspot.com/.

-Antenora: In-Depth

-Fictional Backdrop

-HAD Review

When the new site is launched, I will restart this project.

-House Descriptions Development

I'm working on it and I hope to complete it near the end of May. I have expanded this project to encompass House Rituals, not only House facilities.

-Order of the Dragon Development

-House Website

FUTURE PROJECTS:

-Post-Summer Games: HAD Competitions

After CSP's Summer Games, HAD needs something to do! Nathaniel and I have talked over IRC and created a rough idea of what we want happening. More information to come in the future!

QUAESTOR'S CHALLENGE:

Challenge #6: Aye-Ar-See ees fohr tha kool keeds! (IRC is for the cool kids)

You've heard about it... You've talked about it... You've wondered about it...

It's here...

IRC! It's for the cool kids!

Okay, maybe you have not heard, talked, and/or wondered about IRC... but anyway, I encourage every member of House Acclivis Draco to try out IRC. Our channel is #scholae on the Undernet server.

If you are able to install a program on your computer, I recommend mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) for Windows and X-Chat Aqua ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchataqua/ ) for Linux/BSD/*nix-based and Mac OS X. If you are using mIRC, you can check out the Dark Brotherhood's IRC Guide: http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/irc_guide.asp .

If you cannot install a program on your computer, try using the Dark Brotherhood's Webchat client (http://webchat.darkjedibrotherhood.com/). It automatically connects you to #db of the Undernet server.

ASK THE QUAESTOR:

Dear RevengeX Palpatine, Quaestor of the Rising Dragon, Son of Palpatine, Lord of the Desert Planet Antenora, Viscount of Scholae Palatinae, Blade Master of the Royal Clan,

How do I join a family? I think they're really cool.

~ Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

First off as background information, families are additional fictional roleplay aspects of the Brotherhood. They are a collection of friends who want to share a common background and surname in their Brotherhood characters' histories.

To join a family, you have to be at least the rank of Guardian. To start a family, you must be at least the rank of Krath Epis/Sith Battlelord/Obelisk Exarch and have at least five other members interested in joining the new family.

More information can be found at the Policies and Projects page: http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/policies.asp under "Current Policies, Important Docs" > "DB Policy on Families".

The current roster of families and their members can be found here: http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/wiki/index.php?title=Family_Census .

I hope this helps.

Love <3,

RevengeX Palpatine, Quaestor of the Rising Dragon, Son of Palpatine, Lord of the Desert Planet Antenora, Viscount of Scholae Palatinae, Blade Master of the Royal Clan

QUAESTOR'S CORNER:

== First Topic: Why Leadership Positions Exist ==

LPE2S! El Pee Ee Too Ess!

Leadership Positions Exist 2 Serve.

Remember it. Understand it. Follow it. Preach it. RiUiFiPi! rEE-OoEE-phEE-pEE!

El Pee Ee Too Ess! rEE-OoEE-phEE-pEE!

== Second Topic: My View on "Open-Door" Policies ==

As the Summits in the Brotherhood change, the new Summit member will most likely explicitly state that s/he has an "open-door" policy. What is this policy? In short, it means that any member, regardless of rank, position, or anything at all, may approach that Summit member at anytime with questions, suggestions, comments, concerns, or what have you.

In my opinion, explicitly stating that you have an "open-door" policy is redundant and unnecessary.

Sure, a lot of other Summit members do it; but I do not (or I do not recall stating such a thing). It is a waste of finger energy and brain power. It is redundant.

And here is my second claim: EVERY Summit member has an "open-door" policy. If one doesn't, s/he should not be in that position. As I said in the first topic of this edition's "Quaestor's Corner", "Leadership Positions Exist 2 Serve". There is no doubt about it. We so-called "Leaders" are merely servants to the general populace of our unit. No, we are not slaves and we are not there to do your every bidding.

We are servants to the general populace of our unit, not you, contrary to popular belief.

And thus I conclude this blurb saying that any member, regardless of rank, position, or anything at all, may approach me at anytime with questions, suggestions, comments, concerns, or what have you. I refuse to say that I have an "open-door" policy for it only wastes away the muscles in my withering fingers.
