Herald Report

Site Recap That Artist directory seems to be tying the whole thing up. I might launch the site without it just to get it up. Raven said it was the Custom Lightsaber Guide he was working on, not the Warbanner Guide as I reported last time. Oops. That's Ok. He's still working on it. Well, now the WB guide needs to be reworked. For now you can look at the old one.

We really wanted to get all the WB requests cleared out this past Wednesday, but a few factors kind of stopped that thought in its tracks. I found out that I don't have FTP Access to the actual WB folder (or LS folder for that matter) so we're working on getting that in place. What does that mean for you all? Well - I have to spend the time uploading each WB or CLS one at a time instead of in a huge lump. It really slows you down.

Raven had some RL trouble and couldn't get to the stuff on Tuesday as he intended. I started some on Tuesday but had my own little RL trouble to deal with. Still, we managed to blast through a lot of them for the eager and mostly patient requestors.

About Training Sabers

It's becoming a bit of a problem where people are skipping steps or doing them out of order in hopes of getting a training lightsaber. It's not a problem to me - I already have a custom one! - but I don't like seeing people left waiting for something that, when done properly, will update itself. I can easily add it to someone's dossier if they've met the requirements, but it adds unnecessary work.

I don't blame people for getting it all mixed up. Honestly, the whole automated process was a mystery to me as well. It was not in place when I was HRLD last time, so for answers I went to the source - Muz. He told me how it works, and the steps you all need to take to completely bypass HRLD interaction with your awarding of a training lightsaber. Skip steps, or do them out of order, and I can still add it to your dossier, but following these in order will get it to you faster.

  1. Achieve the right rank (ACO)

  2. Qualify in the ACC (take the initiates exam, then pass a qualification match)

  3. Pass the test for the training saber

If you do it that way, it's automatically uploaded.

The SW News is rather slow this week, with a lot of focus on Hyperspace (SW.COM exclusive) stuff and various Conventions that are coming up... however I couldn't pass up this one:

STAR WARS 30th ANNIVERSARY HARRISON FORD Autograph Card - Just look at that price!

Also, Lucasfilm and Hasbro have teamed up to honor 501st creator's daughter, Katie, who died from cancer. They issued a pink astromech named R2-KT.

"R2-KT was created in 2005 to honor Katie Johnson, a very special little girl who tragically passed away from brain cancer on August 9, 2005 at the age of seven. Her father, Albin Johnson, is the founder of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars costuming fan club that performs charity work around the world. Katie had a special wish: to visit Walt Disney World. Through the generosity of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Katie's wish was granted. Then one more special dream came true. Katie's sister, Allie, was inspired one day while watching Attack of the Clones, in which R2-D2 watches over the sleeping Padme. Allie thought how great it would be if Artoo could watch over Katie while she underwent treatment, and for the droid to be named "KT" after her sister. The R2 Builders Club made Allie's idea a reality by creating a unique R2 unit especially for Katie. The 501st Legion approached Hasbro with the idea of producing a figure to commemorate R2-KT. This inspired Hasbro and Lucasfilm to help make more wishes come true for children like Katie. hasbro and Lucasfilm together are donating $100,000 in Katie's memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundations of South Carolina and San Diego. "

That is awesome.
