Justicar Report

Chamber of Justice Communique #019

DB vs Cannabisia and DB vs Khobai - Justicar's Opinion

The initial complaint was brought to the Chamber of Justice by a member who suspected the defendants of cheating. An investigation was completed, and sufficient evidence existed to support a case that the defendants may have reported two Jedi Academy missions for the Great Jedi War that were never actually played. The Chamber charged the defendants with Cheating and trials were put into motion to allow juries to decide the guilt or innocence of the members. Two separate trials were used because the Dark Covenant does not contain a provision for joint trials.

The trial process moved along smoothly, with the prosecution and defense writing their arguments as dictated, and finally all arguments were submitted to the two juries. The juries spent a day in deliberations, after which the defense submitted new, exculpatory evidence to the Justicar in the form of a server log not previously known to exist. This log showed proof that the JA matches did indeed occur. The Justicar reviewed the log, and after seeing it's contents could not in good faith continue the trial. Therefore the Chamber of Justice has dropped all charges against both Cannabisia Tarentae and Khobai Wrathraven Arconae.

Signed and Sealed in Justice,

Perhaps this is yet another sign that the Justicar should not single handedly decide weather an actual offense has been committed (or at least weather or not it should face a jury).

Perhaps our knowledgable and well intentioned leaders should look into creating a new "discovery" phase, that does not allow the Justicar to single handedly decide if a member should face a trial or not.

And no, I won't post on the Forum, thats just your guys way of trying to keep all possible criticism that the Justice System is perhaps not infallible out of the mainstream :)

err, sorry about that, someone delete 3 of those hides

The JST does not decide whether an offense has been committed, unless it is during a Trial by Justicar. The JST merely decides, after investigation, if there is enough evidence to support a trial - the trial will decide whether an offense has been committed. In this case, a jury would have made that decision.

And there already is a "discovery" phase, it is the investigation the CoJ goes through before every trial begins.

I'm also not sure why you don't think that the MBs are "mainstream" considering that most of our members are on them constantly, especially during a GJW. I posted the link because discussions (like this one) are for the MBs, not for news post comments - as per the "Rules for Posting Comments" that appear every time you type in this box.

I fixed your double posts Derev. I deleted 3 of them.

And as for the forum ... the link is represented here and I wouldn't underestimate our members like you do. I do believe they are capable to actually click on the link and do participate in the discussion if they have anything to say. ;)

A forum is a platform for discussions among a community.

I would click on the link, but apparently you can't bracket stuff in comments, and it's too much work to c/p it :P

Aabs

Or how about... we actually just limit it to DB servers?

You know, so that there's no way people can cheat?

Also, I apologize. My previous comment was more geared towards the news item Kir posted after this one. Ugh. Apologies.

Because not everyone wants to just play NF sabers, or Guns at "Tatooine", Tarax.

We'll just have to make it a standard to take screenshots from now on, if you play on a non DB server. That's fine with me.

The main problem with making the official DB servers mandatory is theres always the vague chance some people have trouble connecting to them. It's rare, but it happens sometimes.

I suppose there might also be some people who want to play on custom maps and stuff that the DB ones haven't got installed, dunno. I remember back when I played JA doing that occassionally, especially if we wanted to set up a team game, as usually nobody ever liked switching the server to a CTF match or something :P

I don't think screenshots are necessary, just a log of one player giving the other an ip. A lot of members log irc as a matter of course and I think that is pretty a sensible idea anyway, regardless of whether you believe you may need them as evidence in a CoJ case...
