Wiki Tribune Report

<img="http://home.comcast.net/~joeoneal/Tron/Djbwiki.gif">

The Wiki is progressing nicely - articles are growing, members are expanding in their understanding and the staff is on top of errors.

What we need to work on as an Organization

 • Categorizing images when we upload them

 • Using the Show preview button before hitting the Save page button

 • Not uploading images that are already in the database (thus why the Image categoies were created)

 • Make sure your User name is the same as your DJB name

We are also having a slight problem with getting Featured Article worthy articles or enough Quote of the Day submissions. If we could gather your support for these portions of the Wiki we can help build a database of information that will benefit us all.

I know, it doesn't seem worth it unless you get something in return and with the exception of the Journeymen that do it to fulfill their next promotion requirements there really isn't much of a reward. But with the dissolving or suspension of the Dark Voice, perhaps we can start handing out the Dark Side Scroll perhaps.

Anyhow, I want to thank you all for your continued support of the DJBWiki and for the staff who have helped out so much since I started this job back in October.

Dark Adept Astronicus Aurelius Sadow

I like that Dark Side Scroll idea; I think that would be something worth looking into.

Thank you for the report.

You could always feature my article. =P

The only thing I see holding some nice articles back is lack of character images. Perhaps you could tempt older members with the promise of artistic reward... "If your wiki is featured... we'll try to get your character image created by someone with image creation skills."

Or you could just let the Wiki staff look through and select which articles are worthy to be featured, and thereby say to the members, "This is what you should be striving for, this can act as an example to you of where to go with your own Wikis." Or, maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that "featured articles" are basically just a popularity contest for members to pick which ones they think are "awesome, wicked voodoo cool stuff."

Popularity contest? No, at least that's not what I had envisioned when I set it up for the Wiki. I was trying to follow the same idea as Wookiepedia's and just have some of our finer looking articles featured as what the other articles "should strive for." The staff and I do basically look for quality articles, but it's getting harder despite the number of articles we have and the low number of nominations.

Well, just to clarify real quick. When I said "popularity contest," I meant that in the sense that members are voting for "what they like most," and then saying that those articles are the best we have to offer. Personally, I would say the Wiki staff has a little more objective viewpoint, and since you and yours are actively looking for what's good and what's not, maybe just keep nominations and featured articles purely up to your choices.

I think I'd rather have the featured articles as being the ones people like most. This is supposed to be fun isn't it?

What would most people rather read, an exciting history full of lasers and betrayal and action that isn't quite so well written, or a well laid out, perfectly grammatically correct story of how their character spent thirty years pig breeding and wittling then joined the Brotherhood?

I'd rather read the exciting one.

the wiki, never was meant to be a source of professionalism =)

Making the assumption that the staff would choose the one that's just "the best grammatically" isn't a correct assumption, though, in my opinion. I'm sure they'd rather read the exciting ones, and see lots of well-placed, pertinent pictures that spice it up, and so on. They may be Wiki staff, but they're also DB members, and Star Wars fanbois, too.

The Dark Side Scroll idea is something worth looking into now that the DV has been dissolved.

Can I get an SoF for teaching people how to wiki?

If we give SoF's for that, let me know... I owe Impetus about a billion for all the people I've dumped on her lap for instruction and one-on-one Wiki work.
