Another Virus Warnng

Jac has posted an item about this virus before, but a new wave of it has been spreading over the internet again. Instead of 'September Release' it now says 'October release' or even 'November release'. Anyways, you all might get an e-mail that looks like this:

This mail is not from microsoft, but most probably from someone else, who was foolish enough to run the attached .exe file. I therefor advice you not to run it or your computer will be infected with the W32/Swen@MM virus.

Thanks

JaM3z

Whew, just saw that exact email in my inbox. Thanks for the headsup Jamez.

What a strange "coincidence". I am sure EVERYONE here got this Email. Why?
Because your Email-Adress is listed here. For EVERYONE to see. No wonder why spammers easily get Email-Adresses. They simply scan webpages for Email-Adresses.
It would be wise to let the Email-Adresses only show up after you logged in. So we can reduce spam.

I didnt get it :)

I got it. Was quite a laugh actually, considering I don't own a business, let alone one that is partners with Microsoft.

Plus there is the whole little thing of Windows XP grabbing the certified updates on its own - thus, any Microsoft emails of the such are kinda pointless :P

Eh, I didn't get it either....although logging in to get e-mail addresses would be a good idea. shrug Not like I don't get enough spam from other sources anyway, though. :P

Having to log in to view email addresses causes some problems, the worst one of which is that someone who needs to mail the SCL because of a login problem can't get the address (and why should the SCL or any other member be subjected to more spam than others :-P)

However, there's the possibility of doing some URL encoding tricks that quickly kill 99.9% of all spambots - replacing the @ and . (and a few random letters= with %-encoded characters for example will remove any structure in the addresses the bots can trigger off (us%65r%40dom%61in%2E.com for user@domain.com). And the display can easily be thrown off in a similar way (making the @ and . as images for example). Voila - no functional restrictions but spammer-proof nonetheless.

Something just occured to me... I saw an ACO Kaiann (Krath)/Qel-Droma of Arcona the other day. Was kinda amusing, actually... or maybe I'm just weird, but anyhow... ACO Kaiann... :P

I remember that guy... weren't you Tetrarch of Dark Orb at that time ? ;-)
