Wiki Tribune Report

Greetings all,

One word describes the Wiki, any Wiki really: Progressive. No I'm not talking car insurance. But the Wiki continues to grow and expand and with it come needed changes. One such needed change is the Guidelines. Wikipedia has Guidelines and Policies - I'd like to begin adopting some of these (see changes/additions of these coming next week).

Another thing, we've been pestering these people to use the Show Preview button - but they don't. Why? Well the way I figure it, the general member doesn't realize what the Recent Changes link is for, doesn't read the Discussion tabs, and is plain an simple lazy. They're afraid if they don't hit save every 5 minutes that everything they worked for could go down the drain - they don't understand no matter how hard we try to tell them. So I'm inacting a 1 day ban on those that ignore our warnings. You may have noticed I did this with Severon Bolshev/Vader Ore. If you have the access and notice I haven't got around to doing it, just do a 1 day ban with the comments: "1 day block until you promise to use the Show Preview button"

Also, if you notice someone isn't doing what is asked in their discussion tab, take the time to send them a brief, simple e-mail telling them what they need to do - if they have any questions, send them my way. I've already done this several times and haven't had one complaint.

Communication is key, and though we leave messages for them on the discussion pages, they don't always "get the memo" and so sending an e-mail is like a final notice warning.

Other than that we've been doing a great job, I want to thank you all for your continued hard work on the Wiki making sure everyone is kept in line

Might as well ban me now :-p

All joking aside, I have a lot of updates to put into the Clan Plagueis Prospectus over the next week. I assume that as long as the 'saves' we are making show a considerable, large change in the content - and not some whim to fix one word - that we will be okay with updating multiple sections in portions over the span of a few days?

The "problem" is people who update a page like 10 times within 20 minutes or something. This happens mostly with those who are trying to fix little mistakes as they pop up, instead of actual content changes. Others also update each section individually in a short amount of time, when instead an entire page can be updated by using Show Preview. Update a section, hit Show Preview and make sure it looks ok and then move onto the next section. Rinse and repeat.

Updating a page over the course of a few days isn't the problem at all. So unless you planned on making a slew of changes in a day, it's all good

Problem is a lot of people, as Tron put it, think that if they dont save the work every 5 minutes then they loose it. There have been loads of time I have played about with articles I'm doing, use the Preview Button to have a look how it formats and the simply select all, copy and paste into a txt. file to play about later on. I'm not quite sure what the time out is on the articles and the user logged in, but that could be what a lot of people think about when doing article?
