Loyalty to your Clan is Rewarded

Greetings Dark Brethren,

In times past the members of our Brotherhood have been through a great many things that tested their loyalty. Yet, today there are many who have stuck with the Brotherhood through thick and thin, more importantly they have stayed loyal to their clan.

Clan Loyalty is something to cherish, for it shows the type of person you truly are, and in the long run defines a clan in and of it self. A clan with steadfast members who stick it out through the best of times and the worst of times are loyal clansmen. To date there has been no reward for such displays of loyalty to the clan.

And so, after much discussion within the Assembly of Consuls, we have decided to reward members that have shown exceptional loyalty to their clan, while consistently contributing through activity and leadership for an impressive amount of time. This award is not made of medal, but rather takes the form of a Clan name granted to individual members to use as their own. This would be the ultimate honor a Clan member can receive, more than a mere medal on their ID-line, this would become part of their Dark Brotherhood persona.

There shall be several guidelines for this new award, and they are as follows:

1) The awarding of a Clan name shall only be granted to members who have made extremely large contributions to their Clan over a very long period of time. It should not be given to many, but rather should remain an achievable yet distant and difficult goal for all Clan members. There are no specific guidelines outlining when this award can and should be given, this is left up to the discretion of the awarding leaders, who are to use their best judgment.

2) Clan names may be awarded only by a consensus of the Consul and Proconsul of the Clan in question, with the approval of the Emissary. If the member potentially receiving the award is a Consul or Proconsul a different procedure shall be followed. For the awarding of a Clan name to a Consul or Proconsul, the Quaestor’s of the Clan’s houses will come to consensus with the remaining member of the Clan summit (Proconsul for awarding a Consul, Consul if the Proconsul is to receive the award), and then must meet with the approval of the Emissary.

3) After accepting the award of a Clan name, a member is required to remain in that Clan for the rest of his/her time in the Dark Brotherhood. The taking of a Clan name as his/her own is the ultimate symbol of loyalty to ones clan, and therefore they are required to stay with this clan no matter what the situation may be. This does not, however, prevent the members from being appointed to the Dark Council, they can serve on the council while retaining their Clan name.

4) Consideration for the awarding of a Clan name should be retroactive, that is, contributions and loyalty to a Clan before the implementation of this award should be taken into account. Any members who already meet the standard for receiving a Clan name award should not have to prove themselves all over again, they may receive the award for activity and loyalty previously shown.

5) The awarding of a Clan name to a Consul should meet the same standards as regular members. Consuls shall not receive this award automatically upon being appointed Consul, but rather have to spend time in their position making contributions to their Clan over a long period of time. Of course, work done as a Consul is more beneficial for the entire Clan than work a regular member does, and a Consul has probably served time in his/her Clan as a regular member and in other leadership positions. Therefore the time it takes a Consul to earn this award will probably be less than the time it would take a regular member to earn.

6) The awarding of a Clan name should be a unique event, and therefore should be accompanied by more than a simple email informing the member that he/she has received this award. Therefore each awarding of a Clan name should occur in a piece of fiction authored by the Consul of the Clan, depicting some sort of Dark ceremony where the member enters the group of select few who have earned this award. This fiction should be sent to the entire Clan as a sort of ceremony. Of course each Clan will have different ceremonies to fit that Clan’s specific character.

7) Any current members who are already using the Clan name as part of their character’s name shall be politely asked to remove it or change it. This only applies to a select few and hopefully they will understand the situation.

8) Any current Dark Council members who have had a long-standing relationship with a particular Clan, in which they contributed a lot of work over a long period of time, can be awarded the Clan name now. They have the option of accepting the award as recognition from their old clan, or refusing it because as Dark Council members they are above individual Clans. The exception to this rule is the Grand Master, who in his position in command of all the Clans cannot show individual loyalty to any specific clan. While this will apply to very few current Council members, it is still important, and may apply to more in the future, therefore it is mentioned.

Therefore let it be known that the following have displayed loyalty to their clans and shall herein be awarded following, further awards shall follow in time:

Congratulations to all the newly-recognized pillars of loyalty and dedication. :)

I have a question, though... aren't these criteria rather unspecific for an award of this nature? Unlike most of our ID line awards, this one really stands out... it would therefore make sense to set very strict standards that would explicity prevent any devaluing from member to member or in the event of a change of hands in the person who has the final authority over such a prestigious acknowledgement.

Just a thought...

This should remain an honor amongst peers, I don't think it should be cheapened by adding it in your ID line. No offense. Anyway, wtf guys. I already had adopted Arconae as my last name a long time ago. I don't think I'm gonna remove because I'm rogue.

uhm... I think "strict criteria" are incredibly limiting and incredibly devaluing. You may see the criteria layed out as "loose", but the entire point of this award is that it is NOT going to be limited in any way by setting up some sort of guideline which risks devaluing of a member's work. In addition, we in the Dark Council tend of have enough faith in our CON/PCON/EMS together that we don't expect them to be making bad decisions in this. Unlike awards and promotions, which due to their levels of "prestige" often cause varying interpretations for the value of work amongst leadership, these awards are a singular acknowledgement of achievement and therefore will be watched MUCH more closely by all involved in the process.

And, if this makes no sense, blame it onm y family. I gotta go. Be back tomorrow =p
