Report #4 – May 19th, 2008

• IGs are over! Yay! Although not one of the “large” competitions the DB puts out, we still had some very strong participation overall. There were about 75 non-gaming submissions from the Clan, with many of our younger members jumping in with a few submissions. On the gaming side we had Vardar, Taigikori and Havoc kicking serious ass with all 3 of them having well over 100 matches to their names. We are now looking at everyone’s activity and we will be sure to award all of our active members

• The Dinaari Internship program is open to applications once more. An e-mail was sent out over the Taldryan mailing list with all of the details. I urge anyone interested in pursuing further leadership opportunities in Tal to apply for it as it will get you some good working knowledge of the DB leadership system.

• I’d like to welcome a few new members to the Clan. Everyone, please say hello to Moridin, Dianacht and BlackEmpire and make them feel at home.

• With the IGs over, work has begun on the Taldryan competition that will pit both Houses against one another and see who can come out on top. I’ve already sent a first draft to the Tal leaders and received some great feedback on it. A prologue to the competition will be seen in the next Taldryan Times

• Talking about the Taldryan Times, the next issue has a tentative release time of early June. As such, please submit to our very own newsletter. All submissions go to myself and Duga. You can submit articles based on the DB, Tal or SW in genera; special fiction; graphics; interviews; funny IRC logs…just about anything. The top 3 submissions will also receive a crescent!

• We are close to making a decision on a Project leader for the Taldryan-based SA course. However, if you’re still interested then you can still shoot Chaos and myself an e-mail telling us why you would be good for the job

• The conclusion to the Legacy of the Force series was released and the author of the book did a book-signing. Muz was there with Ashia and gave him an honorary member plaque.

• Our very own Jerse was named the newest M:HRLD! Now, where are all our cool graphics? :P

• There’s a “Summer Writing Course” out that Oberst runs. So if you feel like doing school work for the DB, apply :P

• Fiction Tribune released a report. All of his competitions are extended until the end of the month (and they’re good competitions as well, so try them out). He’s also been busy wiki’ing the DB armed forces, so have a look on the wiki for all that.

• Gaming nights are back on. Remember, only use the official DB servers for JO and JA gaming

• EP Applications are being accepted for one of the Sith history courses. If interested apply to the HM. Also, Plagueis PCON is open for applications. It’s Plagueis however, so I would suggest looking away and quickly :P

As I said in the DB News section, the conclusion to the Legacy of the Force series was released recently. I’m about half-way through it myself and it’s not a bad read so far. The series itself had its moments. Aaron Allston was the most consistent writer in the series, but the second-to-last book was pretty damn good and this one so far is holding up well.

The first section of the “Vector” cross-over just finished with the last part in the KotoR section released this past week. It will now move onto the “Dark Times” SW comic series for another 4 parts I believe. For those of you interested, head into your local comic shop and pick up an issue

We’re back to our regularly scheduled programming now that the IGs are over. There are plenty of things for everyone to do (Tal Times!) and June will have another large-scale competition for everyone to jump in on.

Before I go, I just want to quickly touch upon some recent incidents that I have been hearing about. The culture of Taldryan is a unique one in that we tend to work for the Clan and not for individual glory. Those who work do get rewarded in Taldryan, but that is a by-product of doing all you can to help the Clan. I have been in other Clans and have spent a lot of time dealing with every Clan in the DB. Taldryan is unique as we do not have a lot of behind-the-scenes politics or back-stabbing. However, I have seen and heard of very under-handed actions occurring between members that go against the very ideals of this Clan.

Many of these actions seem to revolve around “positions” and getting your own way. Not everyone will get what they want at all times. That is the nature of the club, and life in general. If there is a decision you don’t agree with, talk to those who make the decisions. As long as you aren’t confrontational we will be happy to answer any and all questions. My own e-mail is open to anyone for anything. However, I do not want to see people trying to get ahead by putting others down. I have been around long enough to see through it, and we as a Clan don’t tolerate that type of behaviour. We are all here to enjoy ourselves, and doing so at the expense of others is not how we operate. Continuing these behaviours will cause people to be removed from the Clan.

I hope I don’t have to make this type of rant/speech again, and for the most part everyone is being great. However, a few bad apples can spoil the bunch so I’m hoping to clear things up before anything gets out of hand.
