Sergeant Report: Soulfire Weekly

Good morning/Afternoon/Evening! Whatever it is for you. Over here it's somewhere approaching midnight and, since I'm a man of my word (or, depending on whom you ask, a man of many words) I'm sending you the latest, full of the interesting tidbits I heard while pretending to do something useful.

Overall:

The team's been quiet this week...I blame the start of the vacations, myself. Likewise with the Brotherhood, although our new Combat Master Sith Bloodfyre does seem to have quite a few things readied for the Combat Center...pay attention there. We'll be having a Feud soon, after all (see below).

*The News: *

Muz is a Dark Prophet! Congrats Muz! Prophets, as we all know, are people who speak gibberish and then expect to be treated as though what they say makes sense. Inquiring minds who wished to know how we are supposed to tell apart this Muz from his DJMly persona have been found cut into bloody ribbons at the entrance to the Dark Hall which, I am sure, is a complete coincidence. :P

Vorion, our much-esteemed and beloved Aedile (me, a suckup? Surely you must be kidding) has been transferred to our brother House, Qel-Droma! Many congratulations to Vorion, who definitely deserves this honor, and to House Qel-Droma, which is now surely headed for greatness.

And with that, Galeres Aedile is open! Applications are to be sent to Rho and the ever-fabulous Dashles at [Log in to view e-mail addresses] and [Log in to view e-mail addresses]. See Rho's email for the requirements. I'd encourage you all to apply, but right now I'm a little busy rebuilding the Strike Team, so...well, let's just say I'd rather have you here and on the Feud's battlefield, for the moment. Of course, if you want to apply anyway, you've got my blessing...if you end up getting the job, I want to keep mine. :P

I've been doing some Wiki work, lately. So far, none of it has been presented in the Wiki itself, yet, but soon...yes, soon. Most importantly, I'm working on helping to more clearly define the roles of each member of the Strike Team. Of our active membership, each has currently one filled-in role, but if any of you would like to change roles, now would be the time to mention it. Another part I'm planning to change is the Mind Meld. I'm of the firm opinion that no advantage should ever be completely on-sided...and also believe that the Meld itself needs more fleshing out. As such, I'm going to be compiling a list of the mental 'traits' each of the team's current members brings to it.

Finally, Sashar and I are working on an expanded equipment list, to allow the Strike Team to pick equipment as necessary for each mission.

Attached to this email, you'll find a document listing all our current roles, along with an example for the role, modified armor, and mind-meld by Timeros. I'd like each of you to do some “Soul-searching” with your own Characters, and decide on what you'd like to be changed or modified within the Wiki articles. You can do this by email, or by a simple PM on IRC. As always, I'm online during the GMT evenings, and quite often throughout the rest of the day. It's a hit-and-miss affair, sometimes...but if you try to contact me, you can expect an answer within the day.

Running competitions:

Now, there's a couple of new competitions...but frankly, one of them overshadows all of them by such a degree I'm not even going to bother mentioning the rest.

The Feud is imminent. Yes, you've been hearing this for a while, but this time you're hearing it from me, and I wouldn't lie to you would I? :P

More specifically, how imminent? Well...take a good look at whatever clock you've got near. Yes, that imminent. Tomorrow, Monday on the outside, you should be expecting the start of a Feud...and I expect all of us to help do our part. Even if it's just a fiction or a couple games...we should be able to show that Soulfire still has a bite and that moreover, once we've got a grip on our enemies we won't let go. There's a couple of old 'friends' whose blood I'd much like to see in the water. :P

Elevations and awards of note:

Once again, one award. Malidir Dinistr Erinos has received a Seal of Remembrance for his participation in the Independence Games. Many congrats, Mal!

Conclusion:

A final thought for all of you, stolen shamelessly from sci-fi writer Robert A. Heinlein:

“ A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

I'd like us all to remember that in the upcoming Feud. Don't overspecialize...we've all got talents (Lucy and Mal are the Lords of the Game, Juda has the Hand of God when it comes to drawing, etc.), but we need more than just single-minded effort. If we're well ahead in one category, why not take a break, do a little bit of something else for a while? Specialization, after all, is for insects -are you an insect, comrade? ;)

Cya'll online,

-Tim
