The Ninth Great Jedi War

Writing this thing. Creating a synthesis between the fiction and competition events. Trying to entertain, innovate. Trying to pull Star Wars kicking and screaming into what I think it can be fictionally. Getting a lot of support from Kir, Muz, and Sarin. These guys are doing a lot for you, using a lot of their free time to put together another great vendetta. I'd thank them. You're getting more for that dollar you're not spending here than ever before.

Plot Updates Update

I tentatively have 2-3 more updates between now and the Ninth Great Jedi War. I don't know when they'll be released as I'm spending all my time on the GJW story, events, production, etc. I hope they're adding a little more to your enjoyment of the club.

As for continuing them post-GJW, yeah, that has been the plan since we were designing GJW 8. If I haven't shared my rubberband theory with you it's this: The DB should have an ever-evolving story that pushes ahead and does not just snap-back into place at the close of a GJW, or whathaveyou. The story needs to age, the characters need to develop, and events need to have lasting impact.

This is what I'm shooting for anyway. Not the easiest thing to do given the particulars of an online club, a bunch of "characters" who are actually real people, etc. What's known as a "challenge". So whoever takes over for me eventually will have a much more robust job description.

Will these updates be available anywhere else? Yeah. What happens now is I post the update on the news site for the three of you out there that read them and then I post them HERE in the Fiction Forum until I get them permanently stored as something like THIS.

Eventually I would like to do things like take a run of them and turn it into a graphic novel. If I ever collect enough figures, scenes, etc. for DAZ & Poser I'd like to do something like THIS but it will need to wait until after all my other projects are complete.

Blacksite

Not the game. This is something that has been pushed back due to the security issues with the main site of late and the far more important Character Sheet revamp. Blacksite will be (and that name could change because I didn't know it was a video game when I thought up the idea) an in-character only fictional website tabbed from the main DB news page.

What we'd like to do is separate our administrative information from our fictional stuff. So instead of getting a mix of "Clan XYZ Seeks New PCON" and "SQL Injectors Strike Again" posts with "in-character" information from the DC, Iron Throne, Cons, etc. we will have a dedicated site to better support the fictional aspect of what all of us are doing.

For example, you'd log onto the main DB site as usual and see what you do now: Relevant posts on website issues, administrative positions needing applicants, reports, etc. Once you've caught up on the real-world side of the DB, you would then click the Blacksite tab located somewhere on the main page (like the various tabs on your dossiers) and be taken to the fiction-only information site.

You might log on here to find an in-character transmission from the Dark Lord Sarin informing Consuls of strategic developments. You could read the latest fictional update for the DB. Consuls would post a fictional event involving their clan for the rest of the DB to read. Essentially this will be a more robust and tailored environment in which to develop our fictional existence.

The fictional basis of this site would be like a secure holonet dedicated for use by authorized Brotherhood users. In reality, access to post and use features here would work much the same as on the main site. Generally Con and up, etc. in order to maintain quality control of what gets posted. I wrote a doc on this a while back and you'll see that eventually when this project rotates into the chute.

Due to everything else we have going this will be something that doesn't happen until sometime after the GJW.

Wait, There's More

I can't believe it either. The Armed Forces of the Iron Throne project continues to push ahead. A big thanks goes out to resident law-dog Kir for stepping up and making a lot of contributions to this sizable project. It might be obvious to some that these fictional items will play a significant role in what's to come.

I added some nice imagery as well as I continue to flesh these articles out. Also Xayun has agreed to work with me on some unit logo graphics for the armed forces. He's made some nice stuff for Tarentum so I'm looking forward to his work.

October Competitions

Only one competition for this month. I am crushed by what I need to get done for the GJW among other projects.

Reading

Nothing Star Wars-related out there interests me at the moment. I'm still muddling through the Essential Guide to the Force: Jedi vs. Sith. Don't like how they chose to present the resource but I like having the information bound, so not much I can do there.

We'll see what comes of the new contract with Del Rey. Something coming up that could earn my money is a new KotOR novel as yet untitled. Karen Traviss is also doing an Essential Guide to the Star Wars Military which I'm interested to see.

Not sure about the forthcoming follow-up to the Legacy of the Force series, Fate of the Jedi. Aaron Allston is coming back to write three novels of the nine-book series. Troy Denning is returning as well which I am not crazy about. Watch out for more "Force-kick" shenanigans from this guy.

TFU Add-on

I should seriously try reading those plot updates. Unfortunately, the last time I did I quit halfway through. :p

Congrats Tollo and Erinyes, and too bad we didn't get any Elder submissions. I'm sure they would have been interesting :)
