<p>Holidays Over!

Well, Christmas is over and I believe so are the other big holiday events. What does that mean? It means most of us have a nice little break between now and when we have to get back to school and/or work to relax and kick back. What does that really mean? It means you have plenty of time to get your DB mojo on and start participating in competitions and activities, or even just hang out on IRC a bit.

Things are going to be winding up again soon now that the holidays are over, so expect a lot more stuff from the Clan Summit, as well as the Dark Council. We'll be announcing some new projects and finishing off old ones. It's time to shake off the laziness and get back to work. All of this will be leading towards the Great Jedi War, which is set to begin some time in late-January. Be prepared!

</p><p>New Year's Resolutions

The year is almost over and that means New Years will soon be upon us. As this will be my last report of the year I figured I'd mention some of my resolutions.

  1. To increase Clan communication - We never seem to have enough discussion going on over the forums or email threads and I'd like to see that change. Same goes for IRC, as a lot of times it's completely dead and everyone is idle. We need some fresh blood to liven things up. Maybe a few more IRC and email-based competitions will help with that.

  2. To have more Clan rewarding - Taldryan has always been different from the other Clans when it comes to awarding members. Instead of giving away medals for every little thing done, we tend to wait for bigger events and competitions. Rewarding member loyalty over spurts of activity. This is going to change a bit in the coming year as we seek to award people for all the work they do - whether it be regular activity, or great acts of loyalty. Hopefully this will please you medal hungry members. :P

  3. To make the members happier - _ Because, let's face it, happy members are active members. The Summit will be digging deep to provide fun projects and competitions for everyone to be involved in. After the Great Jedi War expect a bunch of new activities and maybe, if we're really lucky, we can get a Clan or House Feud going._

  4. To WIN THE GREAT JEDI WAR - I think this one goes without saying.

</p><p>Unification

That's the working title for the Ninth Great Jedi War and, to me, it is especially meaningful. In Taldryan, large vendettas really bring us all together for a common goal to the great displeasure of the other Clans. Having only been back for over a month, I've seen a lot of things that are very un-Taldryan on IRC and over email threads. What I really want is to see more effort made by everyone in the Clan to get along and work together.

During his reign as Consul, Kir created a list of Taldryan Values and I think a few of us could stand to be reminded of what they are.

  • Taking Care of our People: Members are the most important part of our Clan. We will support each other to foster growth and success in both our Clan and the Brotherhood as a whole.

  • Building Relationships: The relationships we develop with our Clanmates deliver numerous different benefits. We will make an effort to build relationships with all of our Clanmates to increase Clan unity.

  • Respect: We are a diverse Clan and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Clan Taldryan has a "Zero Tolerance" policy on discrimination of any kind.

  • Integrity: We will always follow our moral compass and do what is right. By taking the high road we dissociate ourselves from any wrongdoing and keep the Taldryan name clean.

  • Having Fun: The Brotherhood exists to provide its members with a fun and entertaining environment. We will do everything we can to enjoy our time here, and ensure others are enjoying theirs as well.

  • Excellence: Competitions are what drive activity in the Brotherhood. By doing our best, we never let our Clanmates down and we maximize our fun.

</p><p>Anti-Recruiting Summary

Hopefully, most of you read my previous email about recruitment. Recruiting active members from other Clans has always been a problem in the Brotherhood, moreso as vendettas draw near. At the start of a Rite of Supremacy or Great Jedi War, the MAA will suspend Clan-to-Clan transfers, so as to limit stealing for competition purposes. Kaek also created a few rules about recruitment making it a punishable offense to recruit with the offer of reward, be it medals, promotions, or leadership positions. So be aware of that as it applies to everyone in Taldryan too.

</p><p>Anonymous Feedback

Some time ago, the Taldryan website had a function added that allowed members to send the Consul, Consul/Proconsul, or Clan Summit feedback without betraying who they are. I wanted to mention this because, if you do have a problem or a suggestion regarding the Clan or one of its members, but wish to remain anonymous this is the form to use. Simply login to the Taldryan Website and click the "Send Anonymous Feedback" link in your administration menu. I guarantee that it is 100% anonymous and so would Ben, our resident code-monkey.

</p><p>Battle Team Leader Applications

Both House Summits have sent out the requirements for the position of Battle Team Leader. If you're interested in taking a shot at leading a small group - writing reports, creating competitions, etc - submit your applications to your Quaestor and Aedile. If you didn't get or don't have the email with the requirements, just ask one of your House Summit to forward it to you.

Leadership is an important part of the Brotherhood and Taldryan has always been blessed with excellent leaders. Hell, most of us get stolen by the Dark Council at some point in our careers. Battle Team Leader is the first level of leadership in the Brotherhood and, if you do well, it can lead you all the way up the food chain. Make sure to apply if you think leading is something you'd like to do.

</p><p>FDG Discussion

I mentioned I'd be re-starting the Clan's Fictional Discussion forum, which I still aim to do. I still have to open up some new topics, but for now you can read over the old topics and see what we've worked on in the past and need to do in the future. The forum is password protected so only Taldryan members can access it. If you need the password ask me (I have it written down now!). Expect more topics soon.</p>

<p>DGM Report

Muz's report includes details on the new order-specific warbanners for members ranked Equite 2 and up. He also describes how the Order Discipline system, which was introduced in the new character sheets, will eventually work on the dossiers. To summarize, the disciplines you select will determine what robes and lightsabers you'll be able to select for your dossier. Right now they're just coded to their specific orders, but eventually will tie directly to the character sheets. Cool stuff. If you make your way through the entire report, you'll be rewarded with a few bits of information regarding the future character image creator. So make sure to take a look.

</p><p>DGM/HRLD Presents

The Deputy Grand Master and Herald teamed up this year to deliver five days of dossier goodies. Below you can find the links to their news posts, which include pictures of the new lightsabers and robes, as well as the rank requirements. Enjoy!

</p><p>T:G Report

Aside from some minor gaming updates, Dante's report includes the promise of an upcoming Console Gaming Competition. For those of you with Halo 3 and/or Call of Duty 4, you will be able to play other DB'ers over Xbox Live and, I assume, Playstation Network to compete in a ladder or tournament of some sort. The competition is set to begin on January 2, 2009 so expect more details soon.

</p><p>Master At Arms on Leave

Kaek is currently on a leave of absence. For now, all minor MAA work is being handled by his Praetor, Tarax. Kaek should be back on January 4th, and you can expect to find out who he has chosen as his next official Praetor sometime after.</p>

<p>Operation: Resurgence

We're over the hump. December is almost over, but Resurgence continues.

For those of you participating in the ACC portion, you have until December 31st to start matches. The deadline to complete all matches is January 13th.

Thus far, I've had only one Fiction entry. I added this to the game late, but check out the Events Page for details on the Fiction Event.

The winning battle plan was announced, but to reiterate, congratulations to Crix, Sidarace, and Sklib. There entry will be the basis for our Clan-wide Run On, set to begin January 1st.

</p><p>Holiday Caption Competition

Round Two is quickly drawing to a close. This is a fun and simple competition for Crescents and can help you cover some of your promotion requirements. If you want to participate, just check out the forum page HERE. If you have yet to register for the Brotherhood Forums, let me know and I'll help you do that.

</p><p>Night at the Improv

Round III of my Improv competition has begun. This time you are tasked with ripping off some traditional holiday song(s) and replacing the lyrics with Taldryan or Brotherhood references. You can find the competition stickied on the Taldryan Forums. Have fun and happy holidays!

</p><p>Gaming Brackets

Dante's gaming competition is drawing to a close. The only Taldryan member still participating is lil Aedile Tarax. He's in the quarter final round of the JO Bracket. Wish him luck against Koga. Overall, not an overly interesting bracket, but it would have been nice to see more Taldryan participation. We used to be the gaming Clan of the Brotherhood. Let's see if we can't regain that title.

</p><p>Gaming Nights

The Gaming Nights are the staple of DB gaming activity. Matches can be played any time, Sunday to Friday as long as you're in #dbgaming. Clusters of Fire are rewarded at 1 per win and .33 per loss for all games except EaW, which triples the amount of CFs. Beyond that, participants can win the much coveted Pendant of Blood if they have the best win/loss ratio and play a total of 10+ matches, if there are a minimum of 10 players. These nights are the best times to get some extra practice in before major competitions (hint hint) so get on #dbgaming and start asking for matches.

</p><p>Inter-Club Training Event

Like a gaming night, the ICTE welcomes any and all gamers to join #outerrim and play some matches. This event takes place every Saturday and has the added bonus of including a number of the Brotherhood's allied clubs. As a bonus, the top three players of each ICTE earn Crescents, assuming they play a total of 7 different people and earn 12 CFs.</p>
