Great Jedi War

For those of you who have never been in a great jedi war (myself included) here are some tips which I have gathered for various types of events.

Antei Combat Centre

A lot of people complain about this because they look at it, and see that they are an acolyte going against a Equite 3 or something. They basically state that they in no way find it fun writing about how they are getting beat up. Also, they ask how are they supposed to win the competition when they are not winning the fight.

First I would like to address the second issue. If you look at the criteria for the ACC you will see that they are based on different criteria. You will see that none of the criteria are “kicking ass” , though I am sure you are free to “take names”. Ultimately good writing leads to winning, so while writing about getting killed may not be fun, winning in the end, is.

6.1 WRITING

6.1.2 SPELLING AND GRAMMAR

Spelling errors, common or otherwise as well as poor sentence structure, bad syntax, run-on sentences etc.

6.1.3 STYLE

How well the writer entices the reader, language that is used, descriptive ability, the flow of the writing from post to post; seamless storytelling are all elements of style. Distracting elements in the writing, i.e. OOC's, non-pertinent/overdone histories, overly flamboyant language (primarily, that which doesn't fit) etc. can all contribute to a negative view of style.

6.1.4 DETAIL

Are elements drawn upon that expand the story to more than just mere combat? How is the combat addressed, is it clear and concise; does it 'paint' a good picture? Are long posts written just for the sake of length, or do they add to the story? Is the structure of the post neat and readable?

6.2 REALISM

6.2.1 POST REALISM

Is the story 'realistic' even for the SW Universe? Are moves and fighting scenarios, from sequence to sequence, 'realistic'? Are potentially restrictive or hazardous venues/terrain elements written as such or ignored? Does the combatant 'write in' NPC's in a way that fits the story (if applicable)?

6.2.2 CS REALISM

Are sequences and feats, performed by the combatants, consistent with their CS's? Is Force use 'realistic' when compared to the user's ability (as defined by the CS) and their opponent?

6.3 CONTINUITY

6.3.1 POST CONTINUITY

From post to post, are significant elements recognized, addressed and maintained? Is damage addressed and/or dealt with and/or maintained? Have the weapons, venue or terrain changed and been addressed accordingly?

6.3.2 CS CONTINUITY

Is described damage consistent with the combatants CS's? Is 'reaction' or 'effect' of Force powers consistent with their CS's?

_Run-On Competitions

This is the area in which we normally excel, we have a number of good writers, and a very good guide has already been provided. There are a few things I would like to point out.

First remember that you want to write in the third person, in the past tense. An example of this is “Xander jumped over the desk”. As opposed to “I jumped over the desk” or “Xander jumps over the desk.”

Secondly remember, you should feel free to ask people about your posts if you are in anyway uncomfortable about what you should be doing. Remember to read all of the posts above you,, then post something which runs in line with what is happening.

If you are new, you may want to start where there are many people as opposed to starting off on a solo mission, this way you will have more support, and will be able to get help from those with you.

Puzzles and Crosswords

-Regardless if you think you are going to be too late to get one of those placements, you should still submit, because there are still participation points to be gotten. Often who wins comes down to a very small number of points, so every point is important.

gaming

This has often been our weakness. I personally will be trying my hardest to get some gaming in, to help us get some points in terms of this. I believe there are others as well, everybody hopefully will try their best!

** Trivia **

 1. What is the name of the upcoming vendetta?

2.What was the title of Star Wars Episode I

3.Who was obi-wan's Master?

Closing thoughts

The Great Jedi War is your time to shine. This is a time when many rewards such as awards, and promotions are available. Through hard work, and perseverance many of the things that you wish to attain are possible to attain. Remember, your rank is a reflection of what work you have put into the site, and into competition. Consequently, your rank is determined by you, and what you have done.

Another key point I would like to point out, is that in competitions there are often temptations to tell a little lie here, or try to steal from another clan there. Or basically cheat in some small way to get yourself the competitive edge. Remember, that while you may or may not be caught, this is not the central issue. We as a clan stand for ethical behaviour, and no such action will be taken lightly. Your action will be put in front of either the Clan Conclave, or even the Chamber of Justice. We do not take such things lightly, and you should remember that as a member of a clan you represent us to the Brotherhood as a whole.

Finally, have fun, and Good Luck._
