Numero Uno (again?)

That's right, it's my 2nd term as Tribune and so I need to get a report out to let you all know what will be happening. First, I would like to thank RevengeX for his time as Tribune. I dumped the position on him and he was not even sure he would be able to hold it for a few months, but look at what he achieved. He brought about some great changes to the Wiki.

Speaking of changes, about 2 weeks before I was scheduled to resume this role, I asked Orv to change just the background image to the one the domain has (I hated that white wikipedia pic). Well he surprised me and did more than that and now the Wiki is kickin. I kow he already made a post about this and it's been talked about a bit, but thanks Orv.

Thirdly (Secondly was my thanks to Orv), I'd like to let you know that even though we are in the middle of a GJW the Wiki is always available. In fact, it is a great tool for a lot of the upcoming events such as stories, run-ons, etc... as you can find info on the Navy and the Army of the Iron Throne characters as well as other tidbits like The Shroud and Antei.

Rev mentioned this before, but I want to re-emphasize it. We have new ways to link to certain pages now. If you want to link to starwars.wikia.com instead of writing out the full address all you have to do is put [[starwars:Sith|Sith]].

So instead of waiting for the Wiki Staff to update all of the pages you can start with yours and then just look around and see who else needs their page updated.

But wait, we also have one for dossiers too! That's right instead of copying the entire link to your dossier all you have to do now is put [[dossier:153|153]] and it will link to your dossier. These are called interwiki links and we are going to try and get some more.

I've also noticed that some articles do not have many links - we call this underlinked and usually put the tag for that at the top of your page. Let's work together at improving this shortage of links in our Wiki articles - even if it is to Wookieepedia. Here are some guidelines for linking:

What generally should not be linked

Unless they are particularly relevant to the topic of the article, it is generally inappropriate to link:

* plain English words;

* terms whose meaning would be understood by almost all readers;

What generally should be linked

In general, do create links to:

* relevant connections to the subject of another article that will help readers to understand the current article more fully. This can include people, events and topics that already have an article or that clearly deserve one, as long as the link is relevant to the article in question. But please do not make non-existant links.

* articles with relevant information, through references. Linking items in a list of examples makes them easier to reference as well.

* articles of geographic places that are likely to be unfamiliar to readers or that in the context may be confused with places that have a similar or identical name.

Big Props

  • Orv - for making the Wiki look awesome

  • Shadow, Benevolent, RevengeX and anyone else who helped with the color change over for the templates and everything else with the Wiki in the last week.
