[The Sword's Sheath - 1130 Hours - Conference Room A]

The members of House Gladius filed into the conference room, each taking their seats around a long table. The lights were dimmed, and most noticed an unusual cloth hanging at one side of the room. Scion Altera stood in front of it, fending off questions from the more inquisitive Gladians. A glass of scotch with two ice cubes waited at his place at the head of the table.

Once the Dark Jedi had settled into their seats and quieted down, Scion began the meeting as he did so many others. He went through the usual items of business regarding supplies aboard the Sword's Sheath, upcoming missions, news from the Consul and news from the Dark Council. He explained about the Auditor, and waited patiently for the grumbling to subside before he continued.

"There are a few other items I'd like to discuss," he said, pausing for dramatic effect. "The first of which is that the Keepers of the Night is now officially closed. Apollo will personally be organizing the defense of our little asteroid from here on out. Please see him after the meeting if you are interested in flying."

"Our second item of business is that we have a new flag, and a new motto." The ex-Colonel waved a hand toward the cloth hanging behind him, which promptly detached itself from the wall and fluttered to the ground. Behind it, the new Gladian flag hung proudly. "Our new motto," continued the Quaestor, "is 'Gladian Forever, Forever Gladian'. It means both that Gladius shall exist forever, and that those of you here today shall always be Gladians."

At this point, some of you should be wondering: what just happened? What's the deal with the new logo and motto and closing the Battle Team? Why do all this without consulting anybody, seemingly out of the blue and for no discernable reason?

The answer lies in the aftermath of the Ninth Great Jedi War. My character, Scion, is pretty upset about what happened. Now that he's in charge of the House he's gone just a little bit off the deep end. The way he sees it, we lost a bunch of people (our roster in real life was cut almost in half during the course of the war; fictionally, we're taking that to mean we had many casualties) and we gained nothing. To him, GJW9 was like Vietnam was for many Americans. He's doing everything he can do to preserve what's left of Gladius by trying to unite everybody and isolate us from the Dark Brotherhood in general, as well as from Clan Tarentum. He wants us to become as self sufficient as possible.

This idea and these themes are going to be working their way into some events that are planned for the near future. It would be a good idea right now to start thinking about your character's loyalties, and how your character would feel about the events of the GJW, the Quaestor being on a bit of a paranoid power trip, and in particular the Dark Council's Auditor snooping around the base and making a list of things he wants to take away with him back to Antei.

If you are a Journeyman and you have "run a competition with the help of your House Summit" as one of the requirements for your next promotion, now is your chance! The GJW is over, which means we can once again run House competitions! Talk to Apollo and me about your competition ideas, and we'll help you go through the steps to schedule and run it.

Similarly, if you need to train in the ACC I'll take any challengers from Gladius. The new Combat Master has changed the rules so that only ACC Staff members can do qualification matches, but I can still do training battles. They don't count for anything, but they are great practice and I'm happy to give tips and pointers if you need them. To set up a training match, just pick a venue and some weapons from the list on the ACC site. Email the Combat Master and Deputy Combat Master (and CC me) with the venue, your weapons, and my weapons (DL-44 blaster and my lightsaber). If you have any questions, please ask me!

I have set up a little unofficial web based game that I'm testing out. It's been running with a few folks from IRC for awhile now and I think I have all the major bugs worked out. It's based on the board game "Diplomacy" in which you play a European country and try to conquer territory. Don't let it distract you from the GJW, but it's a good way to have a little fun. Anybody with a DJB dossier number can play, and anybody can set up a game. Just round up five or six friends and start up a new game.

Just so you know, this is a long term type of game. You will spend 10 or 15 minutes figuring out what orders to give your units each day, then wait for everyone else to do the same.
