Consul Report

*Clan Scholae Palatinae Consul Report 8/11/09 *

The wind blew in over the ocean whipping the scent into the face of the Emperor. He sat uncomfortably upon a makeshift throne, fidgeting with a small and decidedly empty datapad. His life had unraveled after the Battle of Antei. In the moment of his greatest personal triumph, he lost sight of the future. With that tragedy came more tragedy; the loss of Ptolomea, the loss of a child, things he could even muster the words to speak about. A great orator, leader, and father had been reduced to little more than a shell of a man. Those closest to him knew it by sight alone.

He looked old, tired, and morose. His Empire looked just as bad. They needed a breath of life, a catalyst to rekindle the fire, but where would it come from? How could he muster the strength to climb farther into the stratosphere? He felt like dying, he felt like giving up. All he needed to do was take a step into the streets of Ohmen, and someone would finish the job. He was hated and he hated himself.

He stared out into the setting sun, as if to draw an ounce of power from the waves of orange light. Across the room, leaning silently against the wall, Ava Armada and Emily Coral watched their master in pain. They hated seeing him like this it hurt them as he was hurt. As the final crest of the sun sank into the sea, the Consul stood from the gilded chair. He glanced at the women and they quickly adjusted their posture, and gracefully glided across the polished marble floor to meet him. They each took an arm, wrapping their dainty hands around his.

“Come, Mi’lord. You need rest.” Ava said, brushing a lock of hair from her horns.

“Yes, she’s right. You have worn yourself weary.” Emily piped.

His cold green eyes dissected their words; he would not be resting. There was too much to be done, too much to repair and rebuild, and too many expectations for him to rest now. His voice rose calmly, but full of a distinct pain or disappointment.

“Raise my team, I must address them. Ready the Enchantress. We are going to Ptolomea…” he commanded.

They stared at him in disbelief; he wanted to take back the planet with a group of six. Neither dared to ask questions, they simply complied. With handheld communicators, they prepared the messages. The automated replies came in, with the exception of a few of the Summit everyone was attending this conference. The women escorted him to the hangar, where their guardianship was taken over by a cadre of masked sentries. He blew them both kisses as he stepped up the gangplank into the Baudo Class Yacht.

After several hours and several stops the vessel drifted in the space above Ptolomea. One by one, the summit sat at the round table in the vessel’s makeshift conference room. They all looked to Thran, varying levels of disdain marking their faces. They said nothing, but oh how they wanted to. The Emperor stood. His first words made them wish they had brought holorecorders.

“I’m sorry.” He said.

They were shocked, he’d never done that before. It was a good way to capture their attention, and how it did. Thran droned on for a great period of time, detailing his new plans. It was apparent, only to him, that the Judeccan sunset had brought him some power. He felt somewhat rejuvenated, but still drained. The battle they were fighting would be an uphill one. After the speech, everyone felt better. There was an air of hope again, and loss was the last thing on their minds. Still upset with their ruler, the Summit played along anyway. If he failed this time, it would surely be his last.

Updates:

Alright, it’s been a long time since I’ve done a report. I bet you all thought I was dead (if you weren’t hoping for it :P) I’m trying a new format, something a bit more simple for me to write so…Hope you can keep up.

As you’ve probably inferred, I’ve been a busy man. Summertime and girlfriends do that to you, especially after working a full week. So, as I’ve been told, you all want to hear from me more often. Accordingly, I will try my best to give you all at least a weekly update. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been somewhat transient of late, but I’ve gotten back with the crew and we’ve turned the page and we’re moving forward again. Accordingly, here’s a list of things that we (the Summit) are working on!

The Imperial Palace:

Kalak, Dante, and our resident Graphics Guru have been working hard to present The Nobility of the Clan a fancy place to have dinner parties (My new house :P). While the project is not yet completed, it is looking really really cool. I have to give major props to all the people involved in this project. When it is complete, it will be a new venue for the entire clan to write about and develop. Codenamed “Butkragz” (See code name for Arx Ondorii, Coquenbalz) , the Imperial Palace will definitely add to the lore of the Clan for some time to come.

CSP Website:

Started under my predecessors, The CSP website is nearing completion. At this juncture, we really only need to fill in all the content on the site. Big ups to RevX who has been lead on this thing for a long long time. I appreciate his work and eagerness to get this darned thing finished.

Kalak has graciously taken up a supervising role to complete the content. Yay!

Military Revamp:

Our Military is kind of a sloppy mess. Dante has volunteered to clean things up for us, in order to make our military more user friendly and more complete.

The Royal Economy:

This project is my baby. It’s taken me like 2 pads of paper to sort this out. In essence, it will display how our Empire makes it’s money. What do we sell, what do we buy? Etc. This is still in the development stages, but if everything goes as planned it will provide some new options for the Nobility system.

The Feudal System:

Every Noble should know his roots. Since the Nobility system opened, there has been a real trouble making it run smoothly. It requires constant updates, and while it provides rewards, it does not really give the full feel of Nobility and all the perks that go with being rich! So, the Nobility system will be undergoing a change. Round aboutly, the Nobility system will be more automated, include some more perks, and new Nobility titles and arrangement. Not only will it be different, but it will provide a system that will allow you to choose your own path to the top of the Feudal system. When this is done, the Nobility system will be what it was intended to be.

If you want to become involved in any of these projects, email me ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]) and I’ll set you up to get working on projects.

News Around the Club:

Grandmaster report out! You should always read GM reports, Muz usually does a bang up job of putting some interesting information out there for us.

The DGM needs a Banner! Try your hand at some GFX and win a nice prize, plus your art will be on display for all the DGM reports. So, take a whack at it. I will!

Gaming Tribune report out. Gaming looks solid for the future, the boys at Lucas Arts are working very hard.

Fiction Report out too, Ludy is putting together an RPG setup for the Club. I believe this will have a great impact on the dynamic of activities that we will be able to do around the Club.

For you HADers, Kalak has a cool little ACC competition out there called “Who’s Got the Guns?” It looked so interesting that even I got involved in it! So, if you wanna take a crack at the Consul, send me a challenge in the CLAN HALL.

*And Now…The moment you’ve all been waiting for…My rant! *

Youtube ads…

Ok, so I use Youtube all the time. And I am so frigging sick of not being able to see all the videos I am trying to watch, because some stupid popup ad blocks half the screen.

I understand the cats at Youtube are looking to make money, but really? You have to compromise the videos so as to advertise. It’s ridiculous, and seems against what youtube was created for. Their slogan is “Broadcast yourself.”. I may not know much, but I do know that if I were to broadcast myself, it wouldn’t have ads for Fanta, Mazda, Breast enlargement…ok, maybe the last one.

It just seems to me that once again Capitalism has ruined yet another good thing. I mean, you have all this area around the video itself that you could fill to the brim with ads, and NOT compromise the video quality itself. It’s gotten to the point where you can’t even watch a video of a dude getting hit in the nuts with a baseball or alternatively a baseball bat, without seeing an ad for a baseball mitt, or ESPN. It’s ridiculous.

Is it really so critical to Youtube that we ruin quality videos of nutshots for the sake of an advertisement that will only be opened if it is accidentally clicked. Get a clue YouTube, get rid of those stupid adds.

Untill next time…
