Consul Report

September 9, 2009

Things had changed considerably over the last two months. Any last breaths of rebellion had ceased, and life on Judecca had resumed as if nothing had ever happened. The truth of the matter was that people had begun to see the true nature of the events of the uprising that had scarred their hearts and their streets. There was an old saying that summed the situation up well; “To build a fortress, one must first cut down a forest”. Whether or not anyone actually believed that the rebels’ sudden vanishing act was the work of the very people they entrusted their soil to protect was not important, no one dared make any accusations. There were a few conspiracy theorists, most of whom vanished in the same manner as the uprising. More importantly, the people didn’t care. They’d already begun to see marvelous changes to the infrastructure of the planet. Ohmen had grown exponentially in just months.

With these improvements came the obligatory ‘reward’ for the ruling classes; mostly in the form of illustrious villas, castles and even the Emperor’s own wintering home. The people didn’t seem to care, or they were too afraid to challenge the importance of a home by the sea for their self proclaimed ‘God-king’. What was good for the Emperor was good for the people. While months ago he had been a recluse, never to leave his gilded throneroom, the Emperor now ventured into the streets to kiss babies, shake hands, and appear to the public as a leader indentured to their advancement as a culture. It bred no contempt for him, among the people, in fact it did create a loyalist following of sorts. On the flip side of the coin, which now bore a profile of his face, the Nobles were quick to criticize his every action.

They were still stuck on the ancient ways, the strict divide between serf and lord. He sought to change so much of their lifestyle it frightened them. That was the very reason he’d called for an extravagant ball to be thrown at the new Winter Palace; just to shake things up. Every Lord and Lady, Baron and Baroness, Duke and Duchess, man or woman of wealth, and every last Dark Jedi was invited. He expected a few to decline his gracious invitation, but he had always too many people to these sorts of events.

Emily Coral, trusted employee of the Imperial Throne, pulled tight the last cinch on his robes. Her delicate hands pulled the string taught, causing the Emperor to grunt with unease.

“Watch it, Em.” He said, pulling at the fabric to allow him room to draw breath.

“Apologies, Mi’lord.” She said, with a sullen reply.

“One day, Emily…You will be able to join this party.” He said, glancing over his shoulder to look at her.

“It’s not that, Mi’lord…Why must you take your lightsaber?” she asked, pulling out the creases in the robe.

He chuckled. “Em, Pomp and etiquette is not reason enough to believe that you are safe. I run a greater risk of assassination at this ball than I do walking the slums of Ohmen. Among men as power hungry and greedy as these, it is only wise to ensure my protection. This is my life, my task, my danger.”

“Why must you go?” She said, leaning close to him as if to encourage him to stay.

“To show them…” he said, stepping down towards the door.

“Show them what?” she asked, inquisitively.

“The Future.” He said, slipping a shining crown onto his head.

The horns blared, the room went silent. This was the Empire’s greatest concentration of wealth and power, all within one room. Gentlemen in dress robes, and ladies in their dresses turned to the massive doors that lead to the throne room. The Sergeant at Arms of the Praetorian Knights spoke, his voice was booming. There was no need for electronic amplification.

“Lords and Ladies, Esteemed Nobles, and Children of Palpatine…I present His Royal Highness, Lord of Cocytus, Emperor Thran Occasus the First.” The man said, turning to snap a salute to the Emperor.

The doors opened, and there he stood, a grin on his face. The crowd applauded, save a few of his kin. Among the Palpatines, someone turned to another and spoke. “He looks ridiculous.” To which the immediate reply came “I like his stupid little hat.” For all the discontent the Family had for his austerity, he played to the crowd and they admired that. The Empire needed someone who was so concerned with material value. They needed him, because he would make them all rich. Some of the lesser Nobility actually fainted, overwhelmed by the apparently personal winks into the crowd. As an unmarried Emperor, he opened up worlds of opportunity for the daughters of Dukes and Princesses; he was the chance to bring a noble to royalty. He walked towards his Brothers and Sister, The Palpatines, with open arms. He tossed his arms around each of them, greeting them with a private hello and a kind warning. After he’d done his rounds for the immediate family, a servant came to him with a glass of cognac. The party had begun.

<li>** Some coding malfunctions…** As I am sure many of you noticed, there have been some errors on the DB site. DON’T PANIC! These were intentional, and from what I have derived from my talks with Muz, there are gonna be some awesome upgrades to the SA. Wiki and Forums are functioning as normal, too. *waves hand* Move along.</li>

<li>Oberst’s Dark Sage in Writing: Ok, so if you spend any time in #db, you know GenOberst to be the priggish fool who likes to both irritate and insult as many people as possible. While this is fun from time to time, I’ve gotta say, dude has mad squabbles (Skills, don’t ask…It’s just how I talk.) when it comes to writing. He’s offering the rare Dark Sage, this October through the SA. You’ve gotta be up on your writing, and this course will definitely be of use to you. Make sure you have completed all of the writing courses, and be prepared for this intense course! </li>

<li>JA? Do You? Guess who has JA? This guy. As I am sure you’ve heard, we have an RoS coming up in the early part of 2010. Find me…We will do battle. We will practice…We will kick ass.</li>

<li>HDS AED:Applications are closed for HDS Aedile. I’ve received some great applications and expect an announcement by week’s end. Thanks to everyone who applied! </li>

<li>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS!: With the release of the Star Wars: The Old Republic videos, we’ve seen more and more people show interest in our club. Accordingly, I would like to welcome all of the fresh-meat…I mean new members… Welcome to all of you!</li>

<li>Promos: Some big promos going around… Congrats to Kalak, Blade, and Robin Hawk. </li>

<li>** Palaces:** Ok, so I live in these places…but you are always welcome! Check ‘em out! Winter: Not Wikified just yet… Summer: http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/wiki/index.php?title=Imperial_Summer_Palace . Thanks to Kalak and Taters for my Summer home by the ocean! </li>

<li>The Future:I can honestly say, for the first time in my CSP Career, the future looks brilliant. I know there was a time while things looked down, but with the intensive restructuring that has been done over the last month or two…We are looking at some opportunities that we’ve never had before. Personally I am super-stoked, and stay tuned for some major changes.

Props this week go out Kalak. Kalak has been right there with me on ever single project I’ve proposed. He’s been doing great work with House Acclivis Draco, and I am proud of him. Good work, youngblood. Keep up the stellar work.

When it comes to projects, I’ve always been an inventive person. Even back into my days as a journeyman, I was looking at ways to make this club a more intimate experience. When I learned about the dynamic of a clan, and saw all the possibilities, I was held back by paperwork. I had to ask this guy, who’d ask this gal, who’d ask this guy, then I finally sat down with a Consul only to be shot down. Well, now there is only one dude I have to be shot down by…Muz. This has lead to a substantial increase in my ideas. I still have to clear things with him, but the potentials are mindblowing. So…Here are just SOME of the things that we have brewing. br>

Nobility, Revisited: Have you dreamed of a Nobility system that didn’t require all the emailing and the keeping track of points? I have. I’ve dreamed of a nobility system where you simply press a button, and you get the points you are owed. One of the biggest troubles that the nobility system had was the paperwork. There is too much crap to keep track off for the system to work efficiently. So, why have a person to catalogue it, if we can have robots! Wait…We don’t have that technology. I am talking about automation. Imagine a noble system that gives you points with a single click…Imagine! Princesses would be everywhere! Mmmmm…Princesses…

Hall of Legends: So…Scholae Palatinae has a long history of brilliant Consuls. Many of whom have shaped the Clan and the Brotherhood as a whole. I seek to recognize these past leaders, with brilliant tombs full of gold and cats…Too Egyptian? Nevertheless, each past Consul will receive a personal memorial, a reward for their service. However, not only will Consuls receive memorials, but so will the most influential members of the Clan. The only drawback to this is that, I can’t create my own. Crappy, right? You may not think so…But I do…

Military Revamp: The CSP Military is such a sloppy mess that I’ve tasked Dante on reorganizing it in a way that will be much easier to read. No major changes, just making it easier.

The New Judecca: This is kina top secret, but if you are looking for hints…Ask Kalak, he’s got the logs from #imperialpalace

That’s about all for now, More will come in the future

Why are only 4 people signed up for the ACC Training event? I’m one of them…

If you are don’t see a competition that interests you, Send an email to me and I will get that sorted out right quick!

Question: What happened between May and now? Why are we just NOW seeing these changes?

Answer: Well, that is long winded and quite personal…Roundaboutly… I am male. So, I get distracted by females of all sorts. These changes took a lot of time to think through. I wouldn’t just give you something I threw together in a matter of hours. Beyond that, I had a lot of regrouping to do. Frankly, I was unprepared when I became Consul…But now, having some time under my belt, I can push the projects I’ve dreamed up.

And Now the Moment you all have been waiting for…

My Rant!

This week, I am going to touch on something that is very important to me…Ignorance. The words within may be considered controversial…Read at your own risk!!!

I recently had a conversation with a person. I hate to bring race into it, but this person was a black woman…In our conversation, she attempted to refute that America is in need of more manufacturing jobs. I acknowledged that the American economy is definitely leaning towards a service based society, in which we produce nothing, but manage the rest of the world as they construct our goods. The basis of my argument is that we need to get away from that ideal and produce things, in the U. S. of A. I am talking manufacturing, really producing things…Like our Fathers produced Cars and weapons of war.

Here I sit, arguing that America is a service based society, based upon the DotCom era, and the explosive technology market…and the only response that comes to me is “That is not what this country was founded upon.” To which I replied, “I agree, our country was founded upon breaking free of a power which was so far removed from our people, that it was not sensible to adhere to the rule of King George any longer.”

This is where things shocked me. The woman I was speaking to said this… “Why can’t we go back to what it was like? We don’t need to create jobs for this country to go on…”

At this point, my mind almost exploded…The US has officially declared that we are at 10% unemployment rates. Michigan, the state in which I live is at around 19%. The woman I was arguing with continued to argue that we should revert to how our Forefathers thought (mind you, before the advent of Industry as we know it…) and she meant it quite literally…

Finally, after around an hour of me yelling, I said to her this (Mind you, this is a woman of color, who wanted to, in all honesty, revert to 1779…) “First of all…If we reverted to what our forefathers thought exactly…We wouldn’t be having this conversation. You are arguing that we should ignore industry and focus only on agriculture? What happens when our Great Plains dry up and we can’t produce any corn?”

To which she replied “We would find a way.”

Mind you, I am pretty much as far removed from racist as it gets…(despite what you interpret from the previous parts.) So, Race played no factor in my argument.

The thing that irritated me the most was the thought that his person with whom I was speaking though that bringing new jobs to America would not do anything, in spite of the fact that America is currently seeing the worst unemployment numbers it’s seen in 26 years…

Meanwhile, she is trying to say that these numbers are people who “Don’t want to find a job.”…I can only argue for so long with someone who is genuinely ignorant, before I get angry.

The point of my rant is this…If you want to argue a point, I will listen. But don’t pull some “This is how is should have been” bullshit…Because, How it should have been and how it is are two entirely different positions. Get a clue of how the world works, before you try to argue how it should be…Don’t be ignorant. Consider the facts as they are…and consider what you mean to say. Never go into an argument without being knowledgeable on what you are arguing.

Every country needs industry. America is not an exception. This is how the world works. You must be able to provide for yourself, industrially, agriculturally, and socially. I do not mean to say that our country should invert upon itself entirely, only to focus on our own success…But, you have to take care of #1, first…That means giving American’s their jobs back, working…With our hands…Like our fathers did. We need more jobs… No question.

To say that we should revert to some 18th century ideal of society, before the advent of industry is ignorant. Ideals evolve with technology, I think we can all agree upon that. To go back in time and “forget about” money and industry is a stupid, ignorant fantasy. Ignorance is not forgivable in my book. We’ve gone too far to go back. Anyone with half a mind would recognize that...

Until Later…
