Aedile Report 3

The deepest, darkest shadows whispered of disloyalty. Threat was growing ever stronger; death was drawing ever closer. Koryn could feel its icy tendrils grasping for the back of his neck. Since he had killed the assassins in the back alleys of Suzel, there had been only one attempt on his life.

He had been enjoying a quiet drink in the cantina when his attacker had struck. The assailant – a Gamorrean – had been exceptionally dim-witted for his species. Entering the cantina, he was already wielding his war axe. His thoughts were focused on one person: the Aedile. Somewhat calmly, the Rodian rose from his seat. The boar charged his mark, he weapon held high above his head. In one swift motion, Koryn’s lightsaber was ignited and flying through the air before embedding itself in the swine’s gut. The Gamorrean let out a high pitched squeal before the violet blade was summoned back to its master and he collapsed to the floor. The Rodian downed the liquid in his glass before exiting the cantina.

Night had crept over Li Gandor; only the moon and stars gave any light. Opening the vast gateway leading into the Dragons Citadel, Koryn realised that his nightmare vision was coming true. Blood slicked the floor staining the once pristine marble. Bodies of the soldiers who had been garrisoned at the Citadel were slumped against the walls and columns. The citadel was devoid of life: Kalak was off-planet attending to business, and Draco was training several Journeymen at the Forgotten Temple. A cough startled Thraagus. Looking to his left, he saw the chest of one of the soldiers gently rising and falling. He knelt down beside the soldier as he tried to speak.

“What happened?” Asked the Aedile, already aware of the terrible answer that followed.

“They... came in silently... assassins...” Koryn nodded and walked slowly but purposefully towards the turbolift. The power had been cut, just like in his vision. Holding out his hand, he channelled the Force and made the lift rise into the air.

Slowing the turbolift to a halt, the Aedile stepped off and headed towards his office. Stopping outside the doorway, he unclasped his cloak, letting it crumple to a heap behind him. There were two intruders in the room that he could sense, but he knew that a third was hiding his presence. He grabbed his lightsaber from his belt and with a wave of his hand, slid the door open. He pounced inside, activating the amethyst blade and stabbing the first assassin. He turned to face the second as a blade came spinning through the air towards him. Instinctively, his blade sliced upwards through the metal, splitting it in two. Holding up his free hand, the Rodian gripped the assailant with the Force and pulled him onto the purple blade. The human gasped, clawing pathetically at the Aedile. Extinguishing his weapon, Koryn let the body fall to the floor.

Scanning the room with the Force, Koryn could feel the last intruder. The presence was faint, as if it was being masked.

“I know you’re there.” Hissed the Aedile to the darkness. A figure stepped out from the shadows, his cloak pulled low over his face making his features indistinguishable. Pulling the hood back, the intruder revealed himself to also be a Rodian. Koryn recognised the intruder, but couldn’t put a name to the face.

“I’m ashamed that you don’t remember me,” spoke the familiar Rodian in his native tongue. “You did after all kill me.” A malicious grin slipped from the corner of the interloper’s mouth. Koryn gripped the hilt of his lightsaber tighter, preparing to activate it. Noticing this, the Rodian continued to speak. “Come now. There’s no need for violence.” He took a step towards the Aedile so he would receive the full impact of his next words. “Especially between brothers...” The words stunned Koryn. He had killed his brother, Luxor, nine years ago in a fit of rage. It was impossible that he had survived that. Luxor pulled a metal cylinder from his robes, tapping a button, a red blade protruded from one end. He walked to the window and tapped the blade against the glass, shattering it. Luxor climbed onto the window ledge and glanced back at Koryn. “It took a long time to track you down, little brother. We will meet again, I assure you.” With that, he jumped to the desert below. Koryn watched as the silhouette melted into the gloom of the night, still trying to comprehend that his brother was alive.

Friends, Nobles, Draconians,

Welcome to the greatest show in the galaxy!

News

Oberst will be running the Dark Sage Writing degree again sometime soon. If you’re interested, be prepared to sign up fast. Last time, there were only a limited number of places, and I presume this time will be the same.

The Shadow Academy has released a new Dark Maven – the Programming degree. To earn this, you must pass both HTML courses (Basics and Advanced), and create a simple website using HTML skills.

The ICTE website has been fixed. Personally, I didn’t know it was broken, but for you gamers out there, check it out: http://icte.darkjedibrotherhood.com/

Kalak got promoted to Archpriest. Congrats to him. In other news, Kalak was recently spotted exiting Thran’s private bedchamber... :P

Look out for the reopening of a Battle Team in the next few weeks.

I’d like to give a shout out to Stormreaver, who joined about a week ago and has been blitzing the SA courses and is already at the rank of Acolyte. Keep up the great work!

Competitions

I only had 4 people apply for my ACC ladder. I know the ACC isn’t for everyone, but if there is a specific ACC competition that you would like me to run, please let me know and I’ll get around to running it.

The Combat Master also has a DB wide ACC competition: ACC Quick Skirmish Competition. Simply put, participate in (and win) as many battles as possible in the Quick Skirmish Hall.

The Fiction Tribune is running a DB wide competition: A Picture is Worth 1000 Words. Take a look at the picture (http://img16.photoshack.us/img16/1396/sithholocron.gif) and write a related story of exactly 1000 words.

The Praetor to the Grandmaster has sent out another puzzle to complete, this time a Sudoku. Details have been emailed to you.

So far, I have had no entries so far for my fiction competition: Antenoran Survival. Write a short fiction about surviving the deserts of Antenora. There are easy Crescents to be earned here.

Full competition listings: http://darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/CompetitionListing.asp

Look out for a series of competitions from the House Summit.

If you want to run a competition yourself, email me and Kalak to get it approved.

LoA

I’ll get an email out in the next week to confirm this, but I probably won’t be around much from 20th September to 27th September as I will be moving into university. So that first week is going to mostly be spent drinking, finding my way around, and drinking some more :P

If anyone urgently needs me for anything, email me and I’ll try and get back to you ASAP.

That’s all he wrote.

In Darkness,
