        CON Report

        Introduction

_All was quiet on Kapsina. Brigadier General Han Dartmouth wasn't used to silence. He preferred it when there were dozens of Dark Jedi buzzing around him, giving him condescending glances. He kept his distance, for the most part. It wasn't that he was afraid of them; half of them wouldn't stand a chance against him. He just didn't want to find himself filled with the hatred he could feel melting off each of them.

Alaris Jinn was no exception. He wasn't as powerful as his predecessor, yet, but that made him more dangerous in a way. Han had watched several Consuls come in and out of power in Clan Plagueis, ever since the Clan arrived in Jusadih. He and his cousin, Amelia, had been here in hiding for nearly a decade when the Clan had arrived, weapons blazing. The fact that Amelia and Han had seceded from Luke Skywalker's developing new Order of Jedi had served them well. The Dark Jedi would have preferred they didn't maintain their status as Grey Jedi, Han knew, but as long as he and his late cousin, who had died in service to Plagueis, during the War of Ascension, pledged allegience to the Clan, there would be no real problem.

That was, at least, until the Twi'lek had ousted Braecen Kaeth almost a year earlier. Jinn was suspicious of everyone, especially those he called, "corrupt." So whenever the Twi'lek called on the General's presence, he felt a tingle of worry slide down his spine. Han could kill Alaris in a straight on fight, but as he had seen from Alaris' coup over Braecen, he rarely moved without a wildcard. The wildcard this time around, Dartmouth noted as he stepped into the Throne Room, was two-fold. Vivackus Kavon, Alaris' current Proconsul, stood at the bottom of the steps leading up to the Throne. It was anybody's guess how long that would be the case: Consuls, in Plagueis, went through Proconsuls the way holosoaps went through love stories.

The more domineering force stood in the shadows the steps cast over the east side of the room. Dark Jedi Master, Corran Force, remained as loyal to the Plagueian Throne as he had since he witnessed the Dictim of Two Skies. Jinn and Kavon, even working in tandem, would be no threat to the Grey Jedi General, but Force would be. It wasn't as if Han had any intention of attacking Jinn today, but he did allow an inward smile knowing the Twi'lek considered him a potential threat.

The General stopped two meters before the steps to the Throne. There, a dozen steps up, sat the self-righteous Jinn, looking as ridiculously regal as a little, blue Twi'lek could. "General." The arrogant Consul let the word fall from his mouth as though he were letting water dribble down his chin. "It appears we may have need for your talents, once again."

Raising an eyebrow for a second, before returning his face to the neutral it had been, he only took a moment of silence before he grew impatient. "Go on, Supreme Commander."

Pointing toward the darkness in which stood Corran, the Rutian spoke again, his words influenced by the Corascanti dialect, "Master Force will brief you along the way."

Along the way where, the Grey Jedi thought to himself. After a quick bow, he waited for Corran to make the first move. The two made quick eye contact before the Dark Jedi Master began his way to the door. Walking behind him, matching the old Deputy Grand Master's exact pace, he allowed yet another sarcastic thought, _ Here we go again.

Brothers and Sisters of Clan Plagueis

First off, I'd like to send a big congratulations to Kaira Rohana, the new Rollmaster of House Satal Keto. She's always been a significant and positive resource for new members of Clan Plagueis, so officially putting her in a position to do so made sense to Kal and Cassie. Great work, Kaira!

Shadow Academy

For those of you who don't know, and you should all know if you're reading reports, I'm now the new Docent for the all new Wiki Editing course. ALL NEW! So far, I think I've graded a grand total of ZERO submissions from folk in Clan Plagueis... so... get on it?

Another Moment with Alaris

I was going to post something here that I found on Craigslist... but as we're moving to the News Page with our Consul Reports now, I thought it might be a little inappropriate. Instead, I offer you something that has pissed me off for a while. Like, hm, twenty years.

How did Dick become short for Richard?

I could take Rick without raising an eyebrow. I liken it unto tolerating lichen -- ohhh, see what I did there? We can examine this Dick/Richard thing scientifically, but all it will do is shatter your every confidence in all empirical knowledge. Watch:

Obviously, there's a pattern at work here. The D in Dick didn't come out of nowhere. This isn't some kind of damn Moon-D. It's right there at the end of Richard. So, okay. Step one. Take the last letter of your original name and make it the first letter. That explains that.

Now what about that K? That, well, that is a Moon-K. So now our second step is to replace the fourth letter of the original name with a K for no reason at all. Fine.

Therefore, according to the logic of the Richard-to-Dick transformation, Nrik is obviously short for Brian and is Slak is short for Alaris.

One addition to the system: if you don't have at least four letters in your name, you have no business searching for a shorter version of your name.

So stop pouting, Kaek. It wouldn't work for you anyway. Your nickname would be Kaek.
