News

Tons and tons of awards being given out, and activity is on the climb. Pretty much all clan specific pages have been changed to page names without a unit prefix (e.g. "Tarentum" rather than "House Tarentum". The reason for this change being that pages won't need to be renamed if a House earns the right to become a Clan once again.

Another thing you might notice is that I have started wading through all of the House categories and standardizing them so that all clans have the same set of categories. One of the changes made means that character pages will no longer be stored under the Houses' root category but instead under a category that denotes them as either a standard member or title holder of the house, for example standard members of Tarentum will be categorized into "Tarenti" and title holders will be categorized into "Tarentae" ONLY.

For the time being if I, or one of my staff remove you from a category, don't re-add yourself to it; this is likely to only result in your page being temporarily locked until you read this report :P That isn't to say however that you should start removing yourself from categories, as if it hasn't been done yet, then we probably aren't up to your House and that you will get missed when we do get there, remember things like this take time and won't happen over night.

Also thanks to Robin Hawk for the shiny new report graphics.

Competitions

We had no entries in the last Wiki Competition, and considering the Brotherhoods restructure I don't blame anyone considering it was a pretty hefty undertaking to enter and I had stuffed up the dates so it looked like there was only a short amount of time in which it ran.

If anyone shows interest in me re-running this competition I will be glad to do so, otherwise I keep your eyes pealed for a different comp in the next few days.

Tip of the Report

Thanks to Aabsdu for offering to write tips and tricks for these reports. Shame on all of you who didn't pick him as "Mr. Eloquent," shame on you...

You hear all the time about how important it is to use the "Show Preview" button, but you can take that one step further and write up all major Wiki edits into a word document beforehand. Anytime you plan on adding or editing a large portion of a page, or creating an entirely new page, you should always do so in a document. Not only does this allow you easy editing access without having to worry about being logged out, it also lets you spell check and proofread, thus removing the need for all those little minor edits later on. The staff has found that putting together your page in a document first, including all of the Wiki formatting, makes things much easier later on, when all you have to do is copy and paste the text into the Wiki... still use "Show Preview" just for safe measure, and then BAM! The DJBWiki Sandbox can also be used for tests like this, but be more careful the more experimental you get in your formatting.

End of Report

My one question as to removing member pages from the main House page would be, why? Doesn't that make it "harder" to navigate the Wiki, then, when you can't find EVERYTHING relating to a House on its category page? Now, we have to wade through, and figure out who is either Tarenti or Tarentae, for example, when some (such as Korras and yourself) have refrained from having the name listed due to your positions. It just seems like more trouble for no particular reason.

We could always have title holders in the non title category, too, if it became that big of an issue. The thing with doing it this way is that the two categories (for each house) show in both the House category AND the "DJB Characters" category; making it possible to find the category via at least two methods while browsing the category tree.

The problem with having "EVERYTHING relating to a House on its category page" is that then the category page just becomes a giant jumble of pages (as they had been) and then there would be no need for any of the subcategories (lets chuck all of a Houses' planets into the root category as well and delete the Dominion categories.)
