Members have always been curious about the usage of the Avatar slot on our dossiers. Most folks have had the default image for a long while while some folks have had the benefit of filling that space with an image. The recent facelift to news posts and comments brought up a lot of questions.
After a great deal of words were spewed all over the place amongst various Dark Summit members, we have hammered out a policy. Here's a fake Q&A that will hopefully preemptively clear up some questions you may have.
A: Good question. After much debate, we have decided that the rank of Guardian/Defender is an appropriate point for unlocking the ability to add a custom avatar.
A: Guardian is a very attainable rank in a relatively short time frame. Your mom could get to Guardian in her sleep - which means the rank isn't a huge roadblock to getting some very specific personalization on your dossier. Plus, Guardian is high enough to prevent busywork for the HRLD staff - who will be approving avatars.
A: Yeah. The DJB site isn't a forum and we don't want people to upload boobs all over the place. Everything that you upload will be looked at by the Herald staff before placed on your dossier.
A: Sorry. Yes. You can't just upload any image that looks like a headshot. Please read the dossier avatar policy for details there. The short answer is: You must have permission to use the avatar from the owner of the copyright.
A: James is fast. We nailed down this policy last night and he already has a request form in place on your Administration page. BOOM! Thanks, James! (and Socorra for the tweaks to the wiki article and submission form along the way)
A: At this time, the Herald Office will not be creating custom avatars for members in any official capacity.
A: Probably. But not yet.
