Voice of the Brotherhood Report #15

header

Greetings everyone and welcome to my 15th report as the Voice of the Dark Brotherhood. This report will include several up dates:

  • Fiction: Plot Update
  • Fiction: Find Orv's Killer
  • Fiction: Archive
  • ACC: Open Beta
  • ACC: Screen Shots (coming tonight)!
  • Wiki Updates: DC Planets
  • The Voice's Word (Stolen from Jac)

Fiction: Plot Update

The Dark Brotherhood Plot Update can be found below this report. The update remains in the same serial style as those that came before it and offers another small glimpse into the motivations and actions leading up to this summer's Great Jedi War.

In the event you don't like reading my writing or seven pages is TLDR, here are the highlights:

  • Muz has summoned the Dark Brotherhood's Leadership to Antei and thinks you are sheep. He also just told the FIST to execute something called War Plan Orange.
  • Brimstone is doing his best Thrawn impression, but unfortunately an unknown force decided to make the NSD Predominant space junk.
  • Morotheri is dead. He accepted his fate.
  • Orv is dead too. He did not accept his fate.
  • Some Elders have decided to figure out what is going on and who is killing our peeps!

Fiction: Find Orv's Killer (Competition)

This Fiction Competition is a tie in event associated with the Dark Brotherhood Plot Update.

Orv Dessxr d'Tana has been murdered on Nar Shaddaa and you have been tasked determine the whereabouts of the extraction team that was assigned to bring him home.

Were they involved? What do they know? Who else was involved. Details for the competition can be found in the competition center.

  • Note: This competition is exceptionally vague in some areas. I understand that you don't know the messenger that showed up. I understand that you don't know what Society I'm talking about. I trust you to fill in the details. Have at it.

Fiction: Archive

The Fiction Archive is a great place to review work submitted by our competition winners. You can find several entries here: Fiction Archive.

ACC: Open Beta

The ACC Beta is live! This is your chance to participate in our early trial run and help improve the system. Your participation, feedback, and support will ensure the ACC design team is able to develop and deliver the best possible product. You can find all the details in Mav's post.

ACC: Screenshots

Kalen and Jam3z have done and exceptional job coding our ridiculous demands for the new ACC. I wanted to show off their work with the following screen shots!

The Ladder System (we are waiting on them. Coming tonight!)

Wiki: Dark Crusade Planets

Shad recently took the time and effort to wikify multiple Dark Crusade Planets. This effort was sorely needed and will ensure the legacy of the Dark Crusade is captured. The planets and multiple other articles are all captured here: Dark Crusade.

The Voice's Word (:p)

One of our great challenges is trying to grow as a human being as we move through life. It is easy to be impatient, easy to be cynical, and even easier to mistreat our fellow human beings.

I have been thinking a lot about this topic and even more so about the pitfalls of marrying our ideas. I recently saw a couple of different message threads where our members declared the superiority of their idea and defended it with venomous anger.

This is bad. Don't marry your ideas.

In 2007, we spent months working on the old character sheets. We meticulously cataloged Force Powers on an excel sheet, formatted their descriptions in a uniform style, created images for every single power, and painstakingly coded the website.

I was exceptionally invested in this project because I was working on it from Baghdad and it was my break away from real life. I could lose myself in the minutia of Force Lightning and relax from the daily pressures of targeting bad guys.

We scrapped those character sheets in 2013. It happens. New ideas emerge, better ideas emerge, and people like change. I really liked the old character sheets, but they don't define who I am as a member of this club and they certainly don't define who I am in real life.

We will probably be a better club if we don't marry our ideas and try a little extra to keep our wild egos on their chain. Is there anything in this club, a Star Wars club, that should make you rage (I'm guilty of the rage thing, but hey...a daily struggle to get better!)

So, just my friendly reminder. Don't get to wrapped up in the things you have done here. Change is inevitable.

Conclusion

BAM! Report complete. My real life remains pretty busy with school and working through my thesis. I moved into the Scholars Program (I know, amazing...I can barely tie my shoes) and we are working through some decent problems. You can check out my professor discussing our program here: LDW Seminar.

I miss Orv :(

FYI: The Crusade planets I've wiki'ed just have the basic details provided for the the events (except for Krayiss II and ... the other first chapter planet). The rest of the pages could use some history updating to include information on the events and outcomes of battles on the planet. If you have access to a canon entry (gold novae for a fictional event), it would be great if you could wikify a historical summary of what transpired.

The pages are also missing some details about which unit "won" the planet and what other unit's they fought against. If you have knowledge of this information, please feel free to add it!

I know Plagueis won Chapter's 1,2,3,4.and 6. so what ever planets they were is the ones we one.

We also had winning planet Wiki's for at least two of those planets which can just be accepted as the canon.

If so, they're not listed in the Dark Crusade category. The only wiki-related planet events I can account for are the two in the first chapter of the Crusade. The other wiki-related event appears to be an overview of the first three Crusade chapters.

Great report! Love all of the fictional development happening!

Love the fiction update! Really cool stuff, look forward to where the story is heading :)

(And psst, Sarin should update his char sheet, I see Muz has way more points now, so the evil conspiracy at the end needs its GMs more powerful to fight him :P)

Congratulations on GMs on 20 more additional points for Force Powers and Skills.

Which nets you 26 additional points from a rank up from DP to GM whereas other ranks only get ~1 to ~6 (equites). O.O

Only one rank is allowed to be super-powered on this Character Sheet I guess :P

Hmmmm.

Hmmmm.

That's rather... insane. It seems really unfair on the DPs, who've put in years and years and years of work. Is one position they haven't served worth twenty-six points?

Why not give half those points to, I don't know, every other rank? A GM could give out one point per rank to every single rank below them and not feel it.
