Epic competition winners

Well, we have the results of the epic competition!

We had three excellent entries to this, and in the middle of a busy GJW, the quality is even more striking. I'll be asking DS to put all three up on krath.org, and I really would advise everyone to go and read them to get some idea of the quality of writing produced by DB members.

But, we had to choose the order of the entries. So... many congratulations to....

  1. KE Vassan Rokir (Krath)/P:OCL-M:HRLD-QUA/Qel-Droma of Arcona

  2. PRT / Morgan Delano / TYR / Ektrosis of Taldryan

  3. KPN Dalthid (Krath)/TET/Qel Droma of Arcona

All three were excellent, and very different in their own ways. All were of a calibre to place first, and to reflect this quality, we will be awarding a SC for first place, a StA for 2nd, and a DC for 3rd.

Many congratulations to all three.

I have been told repeatedly that you can only give crescents for competition placing. When has this changed?

I think it could be because they participated in an 'Epic' competition, during the middle of the GJW- that takes quite a lot of effort, so awarding effort medals seems perfectly reasonable to me.

This was second edition of the epic competition, and as well in the first one as in this one, the awards are SC/Sta/DC.

Epic comp requires a lot more time, ideas and work than "standard" competitions, thus higher merit awards.

Yeah, I think in the Case of more large-scale Competitions (that isn't a GJW / RoS / Feud), standard high quality awards should be given to the winners instead of Crescents. I was never a big fan of the whole Crescent idea in the first place. When you get a Nova...you feel as if it's actually worth something. It might not seem like much, but it seems like something. When you get a Crescent (not speaking for everyone)...you feel like you just got a worthless piece of crap.

Right on for sticking with the SC / StA / DC scheme, it worked like that always in the past. When they changed it, it was to make the DC / WR & BZ / SC seem more "worthy" to recieve. Of course it didn't so I vouch for going back to the old format. :P

Who cares what medals they got.

Congrats to those 3 members who placed in the competition!!

Ah, the Crescent system... it was designed to cease the devaluement of the Dark Cross, Star of Eos, and the Steel Cross. I think it has accomplished that end (more or less) despite how people may qualm about it. As for the whole BZ/ WR issue... can't we let this die already? :P

Like everyone has said, due to the magnitude of the competition, greater rewards than normal were warranted. There's nothing wrong with that, and I've always thought that there are exceptions to the rules. Congratulations to all three winners, especially Morgan Delano!

Yes, these were what you might call 'exceptional circumstances' :P

1st level crescents were originally going to be given, but after the quality of the entries was so high (and right in the middle of a GJW), Tissie and I felt that the awards needed to reflect the effort put into the submissions as well as the placings that they achieved.

It was a one-off decision, which I can't imagine being repeated very often ;o)

Oh, just to add - apologies for not including the explanation in my original news post, that was an oversight on my part.
