Jedi Academy Modification Info

Hey all -

I'm looking for someone who knows about importing models into Jedi Academy and possibly Jedi Outcast. There are a few key questions I have about custom content in these games and I'd like to bounce these questions off someone who knows rather than read some tutorial or FAQ.

If you have a working knowledge of importing custom content into JO and/or JA please log in and drop me a note.

Many thanks -

Hmm, depends on what you mean by import. If you already have the model (in a file) and just want to add it in the game then it's not that hard. The tricky part is when you want to convert a multiplayer model to a single player model (at least in JO) . Well, if it's one of them I can help you. If it's something else e-mail me :P

I know!..... I think, so just ask! :P

It's been a while since I last put my slicing cap on but I used to be able to play about with the JO and JA files after uncompressing the main files.

As far as importing a model into MP goes that's pretty easy, you get the model file and you just plug it in the right directory, which from memory is gamedata I think, or the next one in after gamedata.

Doing it for SP is a little harder... you essentially have to overwrite the Kyle Katarn model, and it's usually best to stick it in the folder where it becomes a mod that you have to select in game rather than an always active mod (again, if not gamedata then the one above gamedata).

To do that though you have to use something like Winzip to uncompress the main JO/A storage files, again I can't recall the exact name off hand right now, locate the Kyle Katarn models folder and fill it up with the chosen model you wish to use. There's a few rules as to which files you don't want to overwrite but it's fairly easy after that.

If you're talking about importing NPC models for a SP level then that's beyond my usual realm of knowledge. I presume that just requires you to have the model available as if it were a MP model and then to somehow use it in the JO/A level editor. Unfortunately I've never used the editor though, so I can't help beyond that one.

You replace SP models the same as you do the Player model. You can just create your own model and rename it the same name as an existing model and it will overwrite it all. As for actually adding models to SP I'm not sure if it can be done though I would assume it can. Probably a file you can edit to add a list of characters and their model/skin components.

And yes, skin pk3s go into base, not gamefolder unless its a mod. Mods need to have their own mode folder in Gamedata (named whatever you want) with the pk3 in there. When you then open up JO/JA go to Setup, Mods and Load the Mod you want.
