Battlefront, Republic Commando, and others...

Hey all.

I've been sitting here thinking about opportunities, and some may say they were missed, or failed opportunities. We hit it off pretty strong with Battlefront, and then slipped into the holidays, and let it go. The question arises, can we make better use of this game? Can we make sure we make better use of the hype that's bound to come with Republic Commando? Not only that, but with the new game, tentaively title Ampire at War, can we make use of it, too?

The BF server was having issues due to hardware problems, but those have been fixed, and it's running again. I know I always enjoyed it, and others did, too. I don't think it's ever going to take off like others have in the DB, but what would provoke you to want to play it more? What makes a game worth it, and what do you think we should do to prepare for Republic Commando, and the rest?

Despite this not being the message board (which I'm posting this on, too), feel free to drop a comment here. I, for one, want to know what you all think about it, and what we can do, as the DC and Summits, to make you more interested in playing these, and playing them versus other clubs, as well.

Opinions aren't for comments system and will/should be deleted by Yacks.

Shut up, nerd. :P I already said I wanted opinions here. If Yacks has a problem, I'll have Oberst show him naked pictures of... whatever Oberst has pictures of.

I'm not being a nerd I'm just speaking a simple truth. How can one topic allow opinions when others can't? For that matter, aren't all comments opinions? Even those congratulating Korras on the OHC one - they're still opinions. So what's the deal with that anyways?

PS: Sorry for the opinion.

Well, I think the problem with Battlefront has been a lack of clarity for the most part. I started playing it a few weeks ago just after Christmas but couldn't find anybody at the time that knew anything about what the details for the server were, whether there were any specific competitions using it and so on.

Now, if I couldn't figure it out, having been here five years, that doesn't place much hope in a n00b who just joined the Dark Brotherhood on the basis of wanting to play Battlefront.

I think what we really need are some major competitions aimed solely at utilising the new platform(s). Not just the ICTE but competitions that are only for the new game.

Republic Commando is expected to be insanely popular with some even treating it as the game that might knock Halo 2 off the top of the XBOX charts. While a lot may think that's not going to happen, the fact is, some do, meaning it can't be a bad game, and is going to do a lot better than most Star Wars games.

That's a looooooot of potential.

I'd strongly suggest having some kind of Republic Commando Ladder or Tournament to kick off the games release, preferably with sign-ups two weeks or so in advance so that people start to hear that the Dark Brotherhood is going to be using Republic Commando from day one. We can even go and spam recruit message boards about that fact, so that people who've pre-ordered the game know they can come here and find people to play against the day the game drops through their letterbox.

When I was still Sith High Warrior I was planning a conquest styled wargame with Mav that was going to solely utilise these games, Battlefront especially- given its genre. The idea was going to be that there would be neutral territories belonging to the DB. While each Clan has a homeworld there'd be another dozen or so systems that they could compete for. Think Celestial Fury.

Celestial Fury generated a lot of activity, and that was on a Dark Brotherhood Honour level, fighting for their own Clan's Honour would undoubtedly be an activity booster.

Now, the one catch, is you're going to get people who haven't yet bought the new games saying "thats unfair, I want to take part" and other such things. True, it is kind of unfair, but, unfair is the way of the world. If you want to take part, that would just be more reason to get out there, not go out and blow all your money drinking this weekend, and buy the game and help take this club to the next level.

Anywho... just a few ideas to get going with. Job number one I'd say is get the Battlefront server listed on the Lord Marshal's site so silly people like me who can't figure out what the details are can use it :P

I was under the impression that it was on the LM site. IN addition, the server is in Atlanta, and the company I purchase it from was having some hardware issues, causing outage. The issues are fixed, the server is up, and it can be found under the name DarkJediBrotherhood.com, on the BF server list.

In addition, there is also the Shadow Academy JA server on it, with the IP 216.180.236.154, password being 4myh0s (yep, that's a zero).

Does the Sith Order automatically get exclusive rights to every new game? Congrats for jumping on the band wagon, but you did get the last one :P Maybe CC the OHC on this? :P

Uh -- yeah -- for the ten THOUSANDTH time

There are no Order Platforms.

Anyone can use any game. There are no "Sith games".

Jac

CC the OHC? As of yesterday there was no OHC. So it really isnt fair to say that he HAD to do it. Gui just likes to know everyones opionions about various games and askes us so. And for Gui (being the SHW) annoucing this game to the DB makes it interesting seeing at it says COMMANDO thus being a "obelisk" game, but again, there are no order platforms, feel free to play would you want and like.

I think its going to be a nice juicy game, im eager to know all these battle formation, like on the trailer when you blow open doors and follow the outlined procedures. (Im hoping you know what im talking about)

Fact: the more people helping implement the game the better its going to turn out. Two Order Leaders is better than One.

Fact Two: No OHC makes it hard for the OHC to handle it :P

Specifically to D'hak:

I really like how you think I'm working on taking over everything for the Sith. Maybe you might try getting to know me, and realizing that sometimes, I do stuff for the benefit of other Orders too, smart guy.

Let me apologize. Maybe I was rude. But to all who don't know me, here's how I typically act: I don't care what Order I'm in, if I see something for the benefit of the Brotherhood (yes, the whole thing), I usually want to act for the benefit of the whole, which includes helping out other Orders. I don't consider myself to be the caretaker of the Sith, and nothing else. I consider myself to be an Order Leader, who has a primary function, and a secondary function of working for all of you. Yeah, even the ones who don't like me, or don't know me. I work for you, too.

I see Republic Commando as being very Obelisk dominated; how not? It seems to be that kind of game. However, I'd love to see Sith and Krath get in it, as well. In addition, I'd also known for a few days that Korras would be OHC, and as I'd talked to him, he said he'd appreciate help while he adjusts. I think Korras is a good guy, I think the Obelisk Order will do well, and I like the Obelisk in general. So I figured, hey, I'll try and help.

The point is, I really wish people wouldn't continue thinking of the DB as a bunch of splintered factions, that have nothing in common. We're all a single entity, and a group with common interests and goals. It might help if everybody kept that in mind.

And yes, D'hak, I even like you, too. :P

My opinion is that the SHW, OHC and COG should get together and either hog every game until there is only one Order left alive, or come up with some very creative ways of running the same event for the same game, with the same people at the same time.

Which makes me wonder what splintered factions Gui was talking about. If that was aimed at me, I'm going to slap you over the head with a rolled up newspaper.

I wish I could express my problem with that speech without pissing off the entire club, but Jac doesn't want a headache this weekend so I'm just going to call it stupid and see if there's any pizza left. Good luck with the new game.

My advice would be to get an Obelisk Rite of Supremacy ready for the release of Republic Commando. That shouldn't be two difficult, the Sith War was successful and took a grand total of two weeks from conception to release to organise, and we've got over a month still to sort something out for Republic Commando.

A Rite of Supremacy generally generates more activity than an ordinary competition, and after the Krath Rite of Supremacy we could use a large scale gaming oriented competition. At least, that's the impression a few people have been giving me as the people who don't write much have felt a bit left out of late.

The only foreseeable problem I've encountered so far is that it would clash with the Independance Games. Though, to be quite honest, implementing a new game to its fullest is paramount to anything else. I'm quite sure people down the line will thank us more for having delayed the Independance Games and made full use of a new game's release than they would for ignoring the Halo Beater and wasting yet another new game's hype for another ordinary competition. (Independance Games are assured every year, hence I use the term ordinary, new games don't come that regularly and should take full priority)

Ooh, there's going to be an Obelisk Rite of Supremacy? I'm in.

There's not going to be, I'm saying there should be :P

Yes cause what we really need is another DC-run uber competition. People are burning themselves out as it is. We just had a 6 month GJW, now the Krath RoS, soon another Sith Wars and then after that an Obelisk RoS? holy shit... let the Clans do some of their own stuff for a bit maybe?

And I don't see how you can plan a huge event for a game when you don't know anything about it. We don't know anything of how the MP is going to work or who's going to buy it or how many people can even run it.

I wouldn't mind seeing something to the extent of a ladder (probably team ladder, being that RC will be a team game), but even as far as another Sith War, I don't know when that's likely to be put out. We have the Krath RoS right now, IGs will most likely come up with anoher couple of months, and Shadow has a point, Clans need time to do their own stuff. And people need a break in between major things. Hmm. Actually, I might just talk to Korras, and a few others on the DC, and maybe we'll have a poll or something to see which people would prefer to see.
