IRC and Competitions

For several different types of competitions, IRC is absolutely vital. For practically any type of gaming competition, we use IRC to coordinate the event. Some trivia competitions also require the use of IRC. There are currently rules in place that ensure appropriate conduct during gaming competitions.

This newspost is to serve as notice to those currently running competitions that make use of IRC. If you are running a gaming competition (and this ranges from a small battleteam event to DB-wide stuff), you absolutely must follow the appropriate procedure when disciplining disruptive members on IRC. This means that you can't unilaterally ban someone because you don't like them and therefore deny them the ability to participate in a competition. For those that need to be reminded, if a member is behaving disruptively you follow the following system: warn them and then kick them; if they persist, follow with a 24 hour ban; if they continue to be disruptive, contact the Chamber of Justice and enforce a permanent ban until the CoJ responds and gives direction.

Additionally, several Clans and/or Houses have decided to open their private trivia competitions to the Brotherhood as a whole. This is perfectly fine but it also means that you can't enforce unilateral bans and still run the competition. Some Clans ban people they don't like from their Clan channel: also perfectly acceptable. However, because this prevents the event from being truly open, you cannot run a Brotherhood wide event and I will not allow you to award the Legion of the Scholar. You are welcome to either remove the bans or move to #db to conduct your Brotherhood wide trivia.

Compliance with these directives is expected.
