Dark Covenant Site Design Contest! Yaaay!

Hey all,

We need a new Website Design for the Dark Covenant. The stark white background and the size of the text do not work, nor do they fit with the DB style.

Your task is to come up with a new design for the Dark Covenant website. I will accept design proposals in the following format:

  1. Photoshop compatible, full-sized image of the layout; or

  2. Completed HTML and CSS output that incorporates the text up through the first article. Please use the standards outlined by the DB Coding Standards document linked from the Policies and Projects page.

Second level crescents will be awarded. The placement medal for the winner will be upgraded for a member who not only completes the initial design, but works with me to perfect and complete the design in a timely manner.

Also, please make the design either no wider than 750 pixels, OR make it so that it will span across the entire screen.

Start Date: 1/21/2007

End Date: 2/4/2007

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I am willing to give my advice as to your preliminary design if you want it and ask for it.

Thanks,

Jac

750px wide? When over 93% of web traffic these days has resolutions of 1024x768 and above, catering to the 7% that has 800x600 seems a little odd. Lets face it, the Web Industry has adopted 1024x768 as a base standard for design, we a younger, tech-driven crowd should definitely adopt such a standard.

Yeah, but remember, it's going to be Jac that gets the complaints from that 7%. It's his competition, let him do what he wants. :P

Change is brought about by challenges to standards. I'm complaining, yes, but my complaint is not without merit. The amount of content one can place 'above the fold' is a definite benefit to a site. And besides, lets face it, super skinny sites look somewhat silly on super high resolutions. ;)

Keeping the resolution requirement at 750px doesn't really affect me one way or the other, I'll still design within the parameters of the competition. I was merely throwing out an idea that should be stewed over if implementing such a change so quickly is deemed a scary thought.

Aye -- it's a good thought, but I am not quite ready to take the leap to 1024. Looking at our analytics, we still have about 10% of our new unique visitors each month stuck on 800x600. While that's not a ton, it's still a good number of them. The DB will eventually turn those kids into 1600x1200 maniacs...but until then, we still need to cater to them as the new folk.

What? People have moved on??? I'm still stuck on 640*480 :((

OR make it scaleable. so, you're not limited to the 750px. ;)

Right right. Although I wasn't complaining that I didn't have enough space. I was just making a statement regarding my opinions of 800x600 resolutions.
