Fiction - Hard Times

Again, no length requirements whatsoever. What I'd like to see in this story is that you establish a setting - describe the harshness of the situation, and how did your character get into these hard times, and then, more importantly, show how your character is affected by it. Is he changed by it? Does he retreat into himself? Meets his troubles with increased aggression?
