Prelude to your saga

Members of the Dark Brotherhood,

Do you consider yourself an able writer and looking for something that will challenge your writing skills? Can you make a story with a plot that will not dilute with time, with elements that will make it an engaging, interesting read? Do you wish for your character to be involved with the DB plot and remembered forever*?

Starting tomorrow, for the next three months the Fiction Tribune office will run a competition where you will write a story of action and adventure. Every month will give you a loose plot that you need to adhere to, and some points that will be expected from your work. The minimum length of each work will be 5,000 words. Each month, three best individual stories will be awarded 1st-level crescents. As an additional bonus for those who manage to participate during all three months, the complete piece of work, which will have at least 15,000 words, will be graded as a whole, and the final winner will be determined by overall quality and the ability to connect the plot into a consistent whole.

So, expect to see the guidelines for the fist part tomorrow. To those up for this challenge, I wish a lot of luck, and I hope to see what you come up with.

Vail Aquillarum Unteminar,

Fiction Tribune of the Brotherhood

  • - forever may or may not mean eternity.

Are we still going to have smaller fiction comps who don't have time to write that much and be committed for 3 months?

There will also be regular MTs.

However, if 5000 words limit per month sounds too much I assure you it is not. For one, majority of DB members have shown capable of writing a 1000 words story in 2 hours. So, if you have an idea of what you will write about, you can look for some 10 hrs of work, spaced throughout the month.

I suppose that due to the nature of this competition it would be beneficial that as many people participate as possible. I might implement some sort of deadline extension system for those who request it, but if so, you will know tomorrow.

Finally, I agree that this competition requires a certain level of dedication. But in my experience, dedication leads to increased quallity. So if you find the time, certainly I'd advise to participate - not just to try and surpass other Brotherhood members, but perhaps to surpass yourself and your previous work.

No need to be defensive. I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I'm just saying some of us need something more bite-size and I'm making sure we still got MTs.

Hey, I'm just advertising :)

I'm betting no more than 5 entries per 'event', any takers?

Well, if there are 5 people that do this, those 5 people will together write more than 10 people would in a normal competition. And because of the degree of dedication that this requires, it will probably come up as surperior. And if only one person out of five realizes he created something he can be proud of, I'd say its worth it.
