Journeymen, to the armory.

   39

Journeymen, to the armory.

To better equip our younger members for the trying times ahead, Sarin and I have decided that we must take a more aggressive stance in training our journeymen in the arts of the sabers.

As a result, those Journeymen who have proven themselves competent in basic combat will be issued a basic lightsaber with a synthetic crystal already installed. These new sabers are not able to be upgraded, due to the simplicity of the hilt design. You are all also asked to return your training lightsaber at the Herald's office, so that we can use the spare parts to build more true sabers. The new lightsaber is a full lightsaber, capable of cutting and defending as all regular lightsabers do.

Study your weapon well.

(OOC: Protectors and above can now log into the site and click on the Lightsaber Construction Tool to pick one of the available sabers to your rank. Rest assured that many more hilts and blade options will become available once you have completed your trials. Also, as of this writing, the 'armory' sabers are not set up for those who have been knighted just yet. that will be changed in time, for those who want this sort of hilt.)

Big thanks to Sildrin, who got this coded up for us!

<start planet of the apes rant>

They actualy did it! Those bastards! They done it! They actually done it! It's not fair! No! Crazy apes! all of them!

</end Planet if the Apes Rant>

yeah...well...yeah...

Sildrin is awesome...the rest...well..yeah..

Yay for Godmoding Protectors!

Yay!!! Well done Muz for the graphics and Sil for the coding! This is great for our journeyman! Just remember, you get more options when you make it to DJK making that promo all the much more sweeter!!

Nice job Muz and Sil, these are pretty sweet, although the thought of PRTs with them, not so much :P

I am so pissed off right now I can't even explain it to you.

I worked really f**'in hard to earn my lightsaber at *DJK in 1995. This is complete crap that PRTs get them now. I don't care what the fictional justification is. I want satisfaction!

:P

lol. Seems pretty pointless, but good work on the stone age saber none the less. Good work on the coding Sil.

(Yes I just called it the Stone Age saber. It looks like a rock.)

So a big question for either Sarin or Muz. Now that the PRT+ folks get real sabers do they get to learn a real technique or are they still going to be limited to Form 0?

I had asked Muz that question, and it does stay as Form 0...so the only change is that now they can swing a "real" lightsaber, instead of a training one. Their general skill level stays exactly as it was

lol @ Jac

That might be the explanation why Sildrin coded in this Stone Saber, and not Jac. I'm sure Jac will get over it though...eventually. :Þ

down with unearned PRT sabers! >:(

/me waves his left stump around for all the Journeymen to see.

Just make sure you dont go chopping your hands off, kiddies. You dont want to end up like the One Arm Bandit here. ^-^

Why is their saber cooler than mine? <.<

I want that saber with a teal blade I dont care. <.<

oh and Muz...dude the blades need a diet :P

It's all Fun and Games until someone loses an eye...but seriously, nice job, folks, and congrats to the Journeymen. Hooray for the Cannon Fodder!!!

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Then it's a scavenger hunt.

OR

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Then, hey, free eyeball!

I know I'm only an Acolyte...but I can wait to get my real lightsaber. I just think that there were too many new complainers outthere.....Just like when SWG changed, cause of the complainers.

Now I actually think something is wrong if anyone can compare this to SWG.

Krandon speaks the truth here ... the sabers look great and I can certainly see the short-term benefits of releasing a "Journeyman Lightsaber" but I wonder if the potential long term consequences are worth it.

I guess we'll see. I suppose rewards don't come without risk ...

There's actually an EU precedent for this... Brakiss of the Shadow Academy (not to be confused with ours) did have simple sabers for his students to use with synth xtals when they fought the Jedi on Yavin 4 under Skywalker. Although most of those students were not capable of building their own, they had generic sabers to fight with. There's probably more precedents but I can't think of them right off hand.

~Mac

I...quite disagree with giving PRTs the lightsabres. The lighstsabre should be built when one is Knighted, at DJK.

Well, people bitched an moaned, and the DC bent their way to quiet them; the Training Lightsabre was introduced.

Now people bitch even more because they want to be insta-Jedi with awesomesteringazest (yes, that's a made-up word) lightsabres and powers and whatnot. And instead of the DC slapping them down, telling them to shut up and WORK towards their blades...they're bending over backwards again to appease their ridiculous temper tantrums and complaints

With all of that bending going on, it's amazing that Shadow isn't involved in all of this.

Also, one more thing I forgot to add.

As an AED I face the problems of motivating my Journeymen to get to DJK. So far, the whole "You get a lightsaber, you nitwit! Be active!" approach has worked out pretty well, but even then there's a few that completely drop off the activity wagon.

Once the semi-active (or in some cases completely active) Journeymen reach PRT, they'll see no reason to get any further. In their minds, they're Dark Jedi; they have a lightsaber. Very few will be motivated to move past that and say "Hey, I may have a lightsabre...but the other ones are cooler! I want to get to DJK so I get the better ones!"

So much for the DJK advancement success rate ever increasing. :P

While I havent had my saber as long as Granpa Jac I recieved mine at DJK in 2001. It was a long road but worth it. While part of me is complaining about this I can understand the move behind this. And yes while semi-active members can get to PRT and get this, they have to wait till DJK for any of the others, and Equite2 for their personalized saber. That is what I was after. The ones in the armory are fine and all, but my saber at Prelate is a declaration of who I am as a Dark Jedi, and something I think all should strive for in the club at the absolute minimum.

Good move by the council for this, and good planning ahead for limiting the form they can use fictionally and in the ACC with this. Yes they do have a real saber but they know little, pretty much all they know is how to deflect a blaster round or two. Other than that make sure you are on their weak side if you are their master, this keeps you intact when they activate the thing.

Like I said to Muz, it kinda can seem like "well since we aren't producing many DJKs anymore, why not reduce our standards?"

I worked hard to just get a saber, I didn't care about what it looked like and how I could edit it. Now only to realize you have to pass 9 SA courses and compete in a competition you earn the same thing I worked hard to get to DJK for?

I'd also like to point out fictionally that the "cadet sabers" posessed by Brakiss' folks were not as good or well-made as his own self-made one, nor were they as good as the ones carried by Luke's Jedi. In fact, I remember one "giving up the ghost" as it were against a Jedi-made saber. It's kind of like a machete against a real sword, you know? Machetes can hack people, sure but they are disposable. As well, the test of Knighthood in the books was making your own. Until you did that, "your skills were not complete", as Vader would say.

I can see both sides, but in general I think it's a good idea. I too busted my @$$ for a saber way back when. However, this idea is in line with canon EU stuff and something I wondered about for a loong time. Also look at the number of padawans with lightsabers given to them by their Masters (both Jedi and otherwise) in the books and comics. That's almost ALL of them. In short, I applaud the idea as being closer to what is written.

And before any of you say "well, you'd support that because you're a Kei" if you know me, I give Muz hell when I don't agree no matter who's family I'm in, as he does me as well. :)

Sorry about the double post, having 'puter issues.

So, I'm not saying that these sabers are bad or good, I'm just saying that I can wait to get my real lightsaber, and when Ive had enough training to even be able to use it...Because at PRT....I dont think your skilled anough to handle a training saberm let alone a real lightsaber.

Er...this had nothing to do with people complaining (because people don't complain about that) and didn't really have anything to do with advancement. It's a change that reflects the fictional state of the Brotherhood: at war with the Yuuzhan Vong. We would be idiots, fictionally, to not arm our people.

People at DJK still have to create their own lightsaber. Remember, Luke had a saber before his "training was complete" and he made his own. This isn't out of the ordinary.

You're out of the ordinary!

Nitemare, you are banned from talking until you learn to spell lightsaber.

I guess it makes sense. When the jedi were at war during the beginning of the clone wars in the arena, to matter what rank, almost all the jedi fought. If we ever got into a big brawl like that, i guess it would be sufficiant to learn how to use a lightsaber. I could wait, but hey, its a lightsaber lol, im not going to turn it down.

I see everyones point. But everyone who did work their arse off for a lightsaber will take some getting used to, to this new uhhh...adjustment. I wanna see how this turns out.

/me watches out for all PRTs +

The horror :P

Ok, unlike many of the "newer" members, I did not work for my lightsaber. I entered the SA, took one test, came out a GRD. I earned JH by participating in a few "events." From there I made House Naga Sadow by getting 30 rogues to join me which lead to SW.

Point of this story? Many of the older members never had to wait through each level to finally earn DJK, there were trials of course to earn it, but not the same as today. You say you worked your "arse off" to earn your sabers - so what? So they made you do some SA courses, made you be active, made you wait longer - so what?

Just because they got a saber at an earlier rank, does this mean they get to breeze all the way to DJK? Heck NO, they still have to do all the same hard work you did, they still have to wait as long as you to earn DJK.

The one and only difference between you and them is they got the lightsaber at a different rank. If the tables were turned and you got the option to mod your saber or have double-bladed at an earlier rank you'd be happy and on the side of the leaders who did that while the DA, DJM, DJP and GMs would be pissed you got it for less work than they put in. Wouldn't you? Admit it you would be happy to have a double-bladed or dual sabers!

It's all fictional so it doesn't matter, you need to follow the storyline - see where it goes. They got a bonus at an earlier rank thats all - they still have to do all the same work for the rank that you did is all - so quit your damn complaining.

The students of the Shadow Academy all had mass-produced lightsabers with red blades.

I think that to maybe find some balance between "z0mg, people don't have to earn their sabers now" and "z0mg, too bad." could be that we don't allow the blue or green blades. Just one red blade with that hilt. That way, people who don't want mass-produced red sabers will want to work their way to DJK.

I'm still working my way towards a "Macaroni and Cheese" colored blade.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Crayola_crayon_colors <

Seriously, it's a color.

Holy crap there is lol hahahaha, and Banana Rama

Oooh.... popular topic.

Okay so people, let's just get ourselves ready for the war shall we. :)

/me runs around like a little kid waving his saber, while it's activated. He decapitates himself. :P

This has got to be the biggest topic I've seen in a while. Never knew handing out lightsabers like no tomorrow would make such a nice one. :Þ

@Debric: "Macaroni & Cheese" color...Where did you ever get such an idea?

Anubis: SWL Mononoke "Macron" Keibatsu Sadow

I for one am happy with this development, I have no internet gaming ability, so as such it will take me an age to get to DJK, I know its a bit of a kick to the teeth of the longer serving members, but think of it as evolution of the Brotherhood.
