Clan Naga Sadow Consul Report 25/10/09

We are here to add what we can to life, not to get what we can from life. – William Osler

Manji settled back into his chair with a sigh of content as the holographic image of one of the executives of the Dlarit Corporation faded away, leaving him in peace. He’d been working day and night over the past few weeks to bring some semblance of order back to the holdings of his Clan; the aftermath of the Yuuzhan Vong attack was still being felt. Many of his leaders had been injured or were missing following the attack, and the new Summits were putting all their time into making things right again.

A glance at the datapad on his desk brought to mind the communiqué he’d received from the new Quaestor of House Marka Ragnos, Robert Sadow- “We’re shifting our base of operations to the fortified monastery at Mucenic. Please redirect all communications accordingly.” The Disciples of Ragnos had been hit hard by the attack, their castle at Kar Alabrek now mostly gutted. Their response was natural; to retreat to a more secretive, fortified location in order to strengthen themselves. In contrast, Ludo Kressh had escaped relatively unscathed, but the new Quaestor Malisane Sadow seemed to have his own plans for his House.

Reaching out to a small flask on the other side of the desk, Manji pulled a small porcelain cup towards him and poured himself a measure of saké, Kyataran rice wine. His new Proconsul Taigikori would be back soon with the files he’d requested- in the meantime, the Consul of Naga Sadow revelled in the sensation of having a moment to savour his alcohol.

So, I’ve got another pretty busy month to talk about here in CNS-land. Following the conclusion of the Feud last month, we had a load of awards given out for performance during the Feud and the Great Jedi War, and some bigger awards for general recognition of the truly great members of our Clan. And somehow I slipped through that net with a promotion to Pontifex! :D Thank you to everybody who wrote a recommendation for that, and thank you to everybody who’s congratulated me; I really appreciate your kind words. We also saw the previous Proconsul Ashura Isradia Sadow get a very, very well-deserved promotion to Sith Warlord for everything that he’s done for the Clan and for the DB as a whole. Congratulations, Ashura!

On the medals front, I can’t really report every medal that was given out without this turning into a rather tedious list. Instead, I’ll simply say congratulations to Robert Sadow, Darth “Goat” Vexatus, Macron Sadow, Tsainetomo Keibatsu Sadow, Fremoc Pepoi, Dyrra Skye, Jade Sadow, Kano Verda, Raven, Zaxen Isradia, Vladek, Tyren Atema and William Darkfire. All of you fully deserved the merit medals which you received, and some of them were long overdue.

In addition, the Clan Summit is now looking rather different from last month; first up, congratulations to our new Proconsul, Taigikori. Taig has some great ideas and a very positive attitude, and I look forward to working with him to improve CNS. In addition, both HMR and HLK now have new Quaestors due to Tsainetomo unfortunately being forced to step down from the position of HLK Quaestor due to real life issues. To that end, the new HLK summit consists of QUA Malisane Sadow and new Aedile, Dyrra Skye. Get stuck in, you two! On the other side of the fence, as you’ll have gathered already, our former Consul Bob has returned with a new computer to kick arse as the Quaestor of Marka Ragnos.

We have some rather nice plans in the works up here on the Clan Summit; I’ll give you a quick rundown of what’s been on the list this month, and what will continue to be on there as we work on it.
•Both Bob and Malisane have been getting stuck into the fictional development of their Houses; the movement of House Marka Ragnos’ base of operations to Mucenic is just the first step in Bob and Fremoc’s plans. Meanwhile, Malisane has some rather cool ideas for the Battleteams of Ludo Kressh, which he’ll be working with Dyrra on fleshing out.
•In case you weren’t aware, we’re currently undergoing a bit of a revamp of the Black Guard; for those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s basically like a special group of secret assassins who guard the backs of members of the Summit. There are a few Black Guard competitions from your House Summits out at the moment, and watch out for more; it’s a very cool group, and gives you something quite ninja-like to put on your character’s wiki.
•The other project that we’ve made some substantial progress on this month is a redesign of the CNS website. Not just any redesign, though- we’re planning to imbue it with some pretty sexy functionality and some stuff that’ll make it quite unique. I’m going to be working on the artwork side of that to get it sorted and we’re getting the coding prepared to be implemented when the graphics are done.

Not much new to report from last month; we’ve still been seeing some pretty impressive levels of participation even after everybody’s winding down from the Clan Feud. This month I got somewhere in the region of 50 emails telling me about members of the Clan getting medals, whether Crescents or Clusters of Fire; great job, everybody, keep it up. And also, I highly encourage you all to take the History courses in the Shadow Academy if you haven’t already- I’d like more courses to grade, and they’re pretty good fun to take!

As far as other news goes, I don’t have anything particularly noteworthy to put in this section. There should be some news in the next few days though regarding which Clan Force Powers CNS will have to play with, so keep your eyes on the news page!

That’s all for now; as always, any thoughts you have, I’m more than willing to hear them. Just find me on IRC or drop me an email and I’ll get back to you.

Onto real life; the workload for my Masters is a little bit intense, but I think I’m keeping on top of it pretty well. To be honest, it’d probably be a little easier if I hadn’t also been doing a gig every week for the past four weeks with the band, but hey- playing metal gigs is rather more fun than reading about hagiography, a genre of writing specifically about the lives of saints in the medieval period, and often written by monks who took great pains to describe the various miraculous things that saint did. :D Also, my seminar on Wednesday should be fun, since it’s all about medieval explorers, the very same thing that I did my undergraduate dissertation on; it’s a sure sign that you’re a history nerd when you look at the list of primary sources the seminar tutor has given you and recognise/enjoyed reading almost all of them. :D

Thanks for reading- until next time!
