KAP Troutrooper reporting in for House Aleema, 28 Feb 2002...

EH NEWS:
-GA Ronin has altered www.emperorshammer.org! It's not a complete
facelift, but a definite nose job. Check it out :)
-We have a new TO. AD Havok has been promoted from CA:FO to TO-DEAN.
W00T.

DB NEWS:
-...uuummm...yeah.
-If you aren't on the Holocron mailing list, I'd suggest doing so now.
Lots of important updates and reports are on there.

ORDER NEWS:
-GKW is over. Mai said the results will be delayed a bit while she
finishes her undergrad dissertation.

CLAN NEWS:
-Congrats go out to our sister Obby house, Kirleta. They took second in
their GKW-like comp! And Rizlib took #1 in the individual event!!
Excellent work guys!

HOUSE NEWS:
-The votes are in and KPN Arion Sunrider will be the next QUA of
Aleema! Congrats Arion! Adam, you did well, too, so don't feel bad at
all.
-However, Kaiann is still the QUA for a few more days. He is running
his last comp, entitled "Kaiann's Final Competition". He's practically
giving away medals, so write your version of our history!
-Although we didn't set any records this month, we still made February
2002 the third most talktative month ever. With 330+ messages, we
continued our streak of over 300 messages per month for the third
consecutive month. This is also the fifth consecutive month we broke
the 200 message level (six if you count Sept's 199 messages :D). Go
Aleema!
-Yes, I am a stats freak.
-Shups has thrown out some ideas for a house run-on. After our great
GKW run-on, I think we can have some fun :)
-A slow week otherwise. Good to see Sayo has returned :) Bad to see
people being naughty on the house list. Again :(

FISH FRY:

Ever wanted to turn tricks and score? Make someone go down and be happy
about it? Play a rubber or two with some of your closest friends?
Thought about slamming your partner and then simply laying it down on
the table?

If you think this fish has resorted to pornography in order to increase
reader interest...well, you'd be right. But actually, I'm talking about
Bridge! Yes, that card game your grandparents play does in fact use the
kinkiest metaphors around. It also is considered to be one of the most
difficult games around. Here's a quick summary of how the game works:

All 52 cards are dealt evenly to four players, each assigned to a
cardinal direction. Each player looks at his (generic use of pronoun
for simplicity) hand and counts his points. The dealer is always the
first to bid, though in Bridge, a player can pass if he does not want
to bid. If he decides he has enough to open, he will say something.
There are 35 possible bids in Bridge, as there are five suits (clubs,
diamonds, hearts, spades, and no trump [which simply means there is no
trump and the highest card wins the trick]) and 7 levels (1-7). There
are three alternate bids as well: double and redouble (which increase
the point value if the bid is made/not made), and pass (which means "I
don't want to bid, so I will refrain from bidding"). Bids must always
increase: you cannot bid a lower the bid level or say a lower suit in
the same bid level. The bidding is over when three players in a row
pass. Here is a typical bidding sequence:

North (dealer): pass
East (the next player clockwise): 1 Heart
South: 1 Spade
West: 2 Hearts
North: 3 Clubs
East: 3 Hearts
All pass.

Now the play of the hand begins. I'll stop here since I know everyone
is confused (just be thankful I didn't go into any detail in the
bidding process or talk about the play of the hand). If anyone wants to
learn more about Bridge, drop me a line. If enough people want to
learn, we'll get something formal (or semi-formal cause I hate dressing
up) going.

COMPETITIONS:
-KFC!!!
-Prelude to Andevia (ends on the 7th)
-I think that's it.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
"I don't care if you're arrogant, or disrespectful. But you're a bad
influence on Mitch, and I won't have that." --Professor Hathaway to
Chris Knight (played by a really young Val Kilmer) in "Real Genius"
(great 80s movie).
