House Aleema of Clan Satal Keto

Quaestor's Report #20

Page Meridian sounding off...

The Hide-Out

There's this guy, right. He walks in to a bar and pulls out a one credit bill and yells: "I'll buy a round for the House if anyone can find the hitchiker pictured on this bill!" The local patrons gathered around quickly for the new source of amusement. After about a half hour, people began to talk among themselves, saying "I just don't see it!" The originator of the challenge spoke up. "I'll give you all a hint: 'It's on the BACK'. So back to work they went; searching and turning the bill in different directions; desperately looking for any sign of an extended thumb or a knapsack. Yet another half hour later, the patrons still searched......Palpatine knows they needed a free drink! Finally, overcome with frustration (or perhaps patience), the man spoke for the final time. "That's long enough everyone! Gather around so I can show you......somebody give me the bill". A darkly robed woman approached with arm extended, in which was the same one credit bill. The man casually grabbed up the commodity, and placed it on the bar. "Let me see here..." he stated unsuredly. The bar waited in anticipation for the revelation, which was: "Dammit! The bastard must have gotten a ride!!"

House News

Another week closer to the big show, and precious little information on it! Hey, at least we have quite a few competitions going on! There is not excuse for 0% activity on the part of anyone. We have BIG ones, we have small ones; we have l o n g ones......you get the idea. There's a little something for everybody this week (and in the weeks to come!). We've got KCC battles, prose, poetry, unorganized run-ons, and even captions. Things are looking up for the batchelor kid; uh huh! Kaiann put a lot of work in to the KCC stuff, so please give it a good, thorough read. I believe Gord-O is still accepting clan comp submissions, so get 'em in!

Now, as far as the House comp goes: Word around the campfire is that SotN is putting together a killer piece. Anything to say about it AoD? Please, don't embarass yourselves!

Elsewhere, specifically on IRC, the dear Mage is trying desperately to get his #shadowacademy channel registerd. I"m proud to say that myself, Kaiann, and Arania are idling there as much as possible. And, for the record, Aleema has shown the best turnout to aid. However, we need MORE! Go get a CServ registration, mail your login name to Mage, and idle there. C'mon folks, it's for the Academy from which you all graduated!

On a personal note, the email thread I started regarding SWG has blown up! I'm glad to hear so many of you have an opinion on the matter! If anyone is interested and has access, the magazine "Star Wars Insider" did a pretty nice spread about the game, giving details that I've not seen online anywhere. There is a good description of Jabba (and all the other big names) and their role in the game; even going so far as to give an inside scoop on the type of quests they'll be giving to players. If you can, check it out! It's well worth the six dollars or so that they charge for the magazine. They also promise much more info in the issues to come! I guess if you pay for it, they feel they must give more information than is on the web site.....LOL

Competitions

KMT for January

Poem:

"Hymn to Pain"

Style: Limerick

Min: 1 page

Max: 3 pages

Font: Arial, size 12

Describe a painful experience your DB character has gone through. You can adapt a real life situation if you wish, or adapt a role-playing situation or the like.

Fiction:

"Invasion"

Style: Short Story

Min: 2 pages

Max: 10 pages

Font: Arial, size 12

You feel a strange twang in the back of your head. Something is not right at your Clan's HQ. You leave your studies and investigate, only to find a horror beyond horrors stalking your fellow clanmates! You track it, trying to keep out of sight, but you fail. The horror has found you!

Use this and write an interesting, original short story. The more unique and interesting, the better!

Kill the KHP!!

You don't like his monthly topics? Have him whacked!!

"Kill the Krath High Priest"

Your wonderfully handsome and insanely talented (muaha, not) KHP has performed an act(s) so horrible, so terrible, so evil that the integrity of the DB has been compromised. Tronsta must be put down, one way or another. You, the aspiring Dark Jedi, take it upon yourself to play the role of Imperial Bounty Hunter and take the criminal Tronsta down for the count. Ok, you need it spelled out? Dead.

In two to four pages, write an interesting story on 1) Why I deserve to die and 2) How you decide to kill me. This is DB-WIDE! Everyone is welcome to submit. Big props to Dalthid of CSK for the original "Kill your TET" idea. :)

Guidelines:

1) Don't kill me because I looked at you wrong at the last DB meeting. The reason should make the average evil Dark Jedi look like Barney the Purple Dinosaur if you get my drift. I did something BAD and I need to die. Make it realistic, and interesting!

2) Be realistic! I'm a Krath Epis. Don't think for one minute I'll go easy on you. I will be using every trick in the book to avoid being MURDERED :P So no DJK's or GRD's or the like walking up and slicing my head off with your saber. I'll toss it in the shredder. Write about teaming up with your Clanmates, or about tricking me into a hanger bay and flying a TIE into me, or locking me in a Rancor's den during mating season! You get the idea. :P Be realistic, and take rank into account.

3) Make it a story. Don't make it a rough outline or narrative. Originality and interesting content will win this event. Make it silly, make it gory, make it crazy.

This event will be on for 2 weeks. February 7th will be the cutoff date. Lets say you got until 11:59pm Friday night on the 7th to get this in to me. No exceptions.

Good luck, and have fun! Once again, thanks Dalthid for the idea.

Clan Competition Part 2

Phase 2 "Turn up the heat!"

*Krath:

Reaching the platform seemed like it hat taken forever, but you finally did it and you are still alive too!

As you reach to the suspended PCON to remove the low humming device on his chest, another flash of light blinds you as you wonder if this is going to become a habit.

As you regain your sight you see that you have been transported into a stone room and notice that two of your fellow clan members nearly appeared at the same time as you did. you are not sure , if they also tried to save the Proconsul and entered after you, or if they were just another illusion. on your guard you greet them and start exploring the room. You see four doors, each placed in the center of one of the walls. you open the doors and to your amazement you find that each opens up to a totally different landscape and place. One leads to a jungle, the second to an ice desert, the third to a forest that very much looks like the Desalmado forest and you can even see the shapes of the clan's stronghold in the distance and the forth opens to a long corridor.

you turn around to your companions and say....

Rules:

Run-on for three

open for Sith and Obelisk as well,

basically you grab 2 of your friends and start writing a story with them, you do it over mail between the three of you only in a run-on fashion.

with setting a limit to three it makes it easier to control and waits smaller . each of the three can chose to be on the rescue mission or an illusion, a sort of an enemy within to foil it. it is up to each of you, and no you don't have to say from start what you, it would only take the suspense away! :P

by the time the deadline is here you should have complete stories that you send over to Consul Drako and myself!

as for the finish of it: what ever way you chose in the end you find yourself in an arena sort of place .

House Competitons

Comp Title: "A Modest Proposal"

Participants: AoD vs SotN

Start: Immediately

Finish: 31 January 03

Description: Each Phyle of Aleema will co-author a 5 page piece of fiction with the topic: "Why [ insert name of opposite Phyle here ] is the best one in Aleema!"

Additional Info: Suggested by the title, this should be sarcastically written. Please try to refrain from "getting in cheap shots at individuals", but rather keep in all in good fun. The exact method this will be done is not set in stone, however use of the message board for a run-on is prohibited at the request of the PCON. The suggested method for this is private email to all of your Phyle. I suppose a private, moderated, IRC session could work as well, as could a few other scenes. The goal here is that noone outside your own Phyle should see the work in progress until the finished product. Please keep that in mind. The final paper is to be submitted by each TET by 11:59pm EST on the 31st of January. Please direct all questions to me and me only. Lets have some fun and some laughs!

Awards: Crescent w/ Emerald Star for all contributors on the winning team. The individuals who contributed are defined as those named at the end of the final draft by the TET and ONLY the TET.

Arania's Mini Comps

Once or twice a week, you will have the chance to gain points towards a DC in trivias, caption contests etc. The system got slightly modified, and there is a website for it this time at http://www.aleema.net/csk

1st place gets 3 points

2nd place gets 2 points

3rd place gets 1 point

Participation is 0.25 or 0.5 point, depending on amount of submission. Meaning if you send in 5 or more captions, for example, and don't win, you get 0.5 points and if you only send in 3 or less it would be 0.25 etc

10 points get a DC, and scores reset. Have fun all, and remember, this is more about fun and participation than about winning.

This week, we have a caption contest, go check it out!

For your conveniece, I've included it here. However, please make yourselves familiar with the link!!

You can have any number of captions.

"The Planetary KCC Challenge!!"

The rules:

  • If you want to challenge two (or more) different opponents, that's

fine, in this case I will judge the better one for the comp and forget

about your less great effort. However, if you want to fight more than

once, each additional fight must be against an Aleeman who does not

have a battle within this competition yet (i.e. you can't just pair up

just to get a second chance if both already have a battle going)

  • Battles will be judged by writing quality, with a focus on consistency

with the environment and opponent's moves. Your skill in battle will

determine your final ranking, however if you lose a scored battle, you

cannot place higher than the winner of said battle.

  • If you fight a non-Aleeman and lose the battle, you cannot place

better than 2nd. To win this competition, you must win your battle. 2nd

or 3rd can however go to a loser if their fighting was good enough.

  • The 2nd place award will only be given out if there are at least 4

participants. Similarly, the 3rd place award will only be given if

there's at least 6 people competing.

  • You must post within 72 hours of your opponent doing so. If you miss a

post, your opponent can claim a win by mailing me and asking for the

battle to be scored in his/her favor. This mail must include a Death

Post so I can judge the battle as if it had be concluded normally.

  • All battles to be considered for placing must be completed at least 48

hours before the GJW starts.

  • Battle locations will be provided by the event organizer, chosen from

various locations seen within the SW movies. You can expect choices that

will make your battle interesting, special and a bit out of the ordinary.

  • If battles involve a large rank discrepancy, the lower-ranked

participant's Force abilities will be boosted to one rank below the

higher-ranked ones through the use of an Artifact ring.

  • Weapons are assigned by the judge, both players will use equal /

comparable equipment.

To start a challenge:

Before a challenge is started, you must mail me indicating which two

participants are in the battle (it's enough if one of the two combatants

mails). If your battle meets the rules, you wil be assigned a location

description which you must include in your KCC challenge which you can

then issue normally through the KCC challenge function. Any battle not

using the provided location description will not be eligible for the event.

When your battle is finished and judged:

Either player (preferably the winner if between two Aleemans) should

notify me as soon as the KCC staff have judged the battle. I will then

read up what you wrote and provide each participant with an evaluation

of how you did and what you might do to improve your chances at a

big-time award during the GJW.

Rewards:

1st place gets a Crescent with Sapphire star.

2nd place (if at least 4 participants) gets a Crescent with Emerald star.

3rd place (if at least 6 participants) gets a Crescent with Topaz star.

All players get a detailed evaluation of their performance with hints

for a good GJW performance.

This competition is of course fully promotion-relevant, so those JH and

lower should take note, this is a great way for you to earn credit

toward promotion.

note

If you really cannot find anyone to challenge, I will be available for

one (and please, really, one!) battle. Please make an effort to find an

opponent somewhere else, but if you really cannot get anyone for a

match, you may ask me.

Now go and do some battle. You're Aleemans, prove it. For being Aleeman

means being the best!

Quaestor's rehab...

The PCON is just out. I agree, it is a shame to see Reza not himself. However, I was happy to see that a good portion of the CF's given this week were to KRATH!! Good job Selket and Silent! With the topic in mind, I'd like everyone to know that I'm personally open to any suggestions/challenges in the gaming realm. I personally own XvT, XWA, JK II, and even Galactic Battlegrounds. If any of you are looking to do a little more of that stuff, let me know! And, speaking of games, I am always interested in everyone's opinion of RPG's. How would you feel about starting an "Aleema Role-Playing" night on IRC or something?? Arania has great ideas, and much experience; as probably does Kaiann and maybe ever a few others around here. I'm an old skewl D&D'er myself, so I'm no stranger. It just feels like some of the "write this and that, and mail it in" stuff is getting old. Send the questions/comments/snide remarks my way!! That's it for this week; keep up the good work, and make it even better!

Thanks for lending an ear and a quill...
