Councillor of Urr - A Title Reforged

The Old System

Before I detail the new criteria for earning the Councillor of Urr Clan title, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the good, the bad and the ugly about the old system and how we got here. Odan-Urr started as a house back in the old system, where new units started as independent houses and had to meet certain criteria in order to become clans. Becoming a full-fledged Clan and all that comes along it was a collective dream we all shared in the early days.

When the day came and we moved from House Odan-Urr to Clan Odan-Urr we suddenly had a clan title and had to decide what the criteria would be for earning it. If you look at the history of the Councillor of Urr wiki page you can see how the criteria was refined over time. I had the honor of being one of the first inductees after that initial wave when we first clanned. Over the years we tried to recognize the paragons of the clan who distinguished themselves through service to clan, mentorship and contributions to the clan community. When we wrote down our values in the Odanite Code that became part of the title criteria as well. The names and accomplishments of Councillors past and present on the wiki page serve as a testament to what we wanted the title to represent.

I cannot stand before the clan and the club as a leader and hide from the truth. The truth is while I have zero doubt that every single Councillor, down to the person, had the best intentions and tried to uphold our values and stated criteria as they individually saw it, harm was done. We're human and flawed, and the system as it was set up had a large enough degree of subjectivity to it that deserving members got overlooked, delayed or skipped over. Not out of any malice, but people acting in good faith, applying guidelines the best they could. Title deliberations were starting to drift from their core purpose. The need for more objective criteria was clear, and the last official vote the Councilors of Urr took, just prior to the DGM policy was to adopt objective criteria.

It is my sincere hope that as we turn the page on this chapter and open a new one, the title carries forward all its best aspects from throughout our history such as service, mentorship, community presence and everything in the Odanite Code, while leaving behind the shortcomings of subjectivity.

The New Criteria

Discussion threads open to the entire Clan were held, and after more than 1500 Discord messages, various polls, spreadsheets, infographics, and some Arch data scrubbing, we put forward the new criteria, which was adopted by clan-wide vote. The new criteria can be viewed on the Councillor of Urr and Clan Title Census wiki pages.

New Criteria

Any member who transfers to another clan will lose the title, transferring to the rogues or the DC will not forfeit the title. Any member who transfers to another clan and then transfers back can re-earn the title by gaining four points, as calculated from the date of their return. Any member can request a status check from the clan summit, but as this is not entirely automatically tracked by the site yet please be patient.

Special thanks to anyone who voted or made their voices heard in the process of developing these new criteria. Building consensus can be tough sometimes and these criteria may not have been what you wanted. Please know that your input was valued and important.

Turel Sorenn

High Councillor of Odan-Urr

I'm so impressed by the process we undertook, giving everyone a chance to express their views and vote more than once. Thank you to everyone who showed up for the discussions (and read all those Discord messages). Thanks Tisto for making sure those not on Discord were heard. And thanks, Turel, for overseeing the whole process.
