Chamber of Justice - Great Jedi War XIV Edition

Dear members,

In two days, the Fourteenth Great Jedi War will begin. The purpose of this post is to give a quick reminder to both our new and veteran members of the our competition standards. Most of these rules always apply but we take them extremely seriously during vendetta events. My hope is that this reminder will keep someone from having to talk to me during or after the event. Please keep in mind the following:

  1. Read the event rules carefully to ensure that you’re complying with all the requirements for a valid submission. The Chamber has reviewed the various rules and can confirm that they are fair and reasonable. The validity of any given submission is up to that competition's organizers, so please follow their rules.

  2. Plagiarism is all too tempting but also very easy to catch. Please be aware that the Dark Council and the event coordinators have the ability to check for plagiarized documents, including images that might be used in a graphics or multimedia submissions. You are allowed in the various events to use derivative works that you reference or modify, such as graphic assets that might be used in an image, but in order to avoid a charge of plagiarism, you must give proper credit to the original creator. In addition, work that you’ve used from prior events should not be submitted as an original work for this event. You would be surprised at how we can find these things with our resources.

  3. Please be very cognizant of the Rites of Combat as they apply to this vendetta. There is rarely an event that occurs club wide where there is not some accusation of match dodging or other sorts of cheating the system. The Fist will be watching for these types of issues and will be bringing to my attention anything that looks suspicious. Play nice and play fair.

  4. Good sportsmanship is required in these events. If you can’t say anything nice after a match, say “good game” and walk away. Do not taunt or ridicule your opponent. Do not accuse them of wrongdoing. On the other hand, however, we are not going to be policing every time someone gets their feelings hurt after losing a match. Be good to each other and keep the bickering and commenting to an absolute minimum. Still have fun, though.

  5. We are aware of the efforts of members to help each other in revising and polishing submissions. It is not against the rules to have a submission edited for grammar, spelling, and basic story comprehension. It is against the rules, however, for an editor to engage in wholesale rewriting of sections or to otherwise alter the submission to make it anything but an individual effort. This applies as well to run on posts that are created off-forum in a collaborative document. Be honest and be fair.

  6. Any member contributing to a team event must put in a reasonable amount of effort in order to get participation credit for that event. Team leaders must ensure for themselves and the event coordinators that each person listed with credit on a team event actually deserves it. Per prior Chamber precedent, including an unqualified member on the credits for a team submission will not only result in disciplinary action against that member, but likely against the team leader and maybe other team members as well.

  7. Please alert me, Mav, and Evant as quickly as possible to any problems that might come up so we can get ahead of the issue and put a stop to anything that may be harmful to the quality of the event.

  8. If you need any clarifications about the rules, the process, or any specific event issues, please do not hesitate to contact either me or any of the event coordinators for clarification. Please be sure to copy Mav and Evant on all emails as well. We don’t intend to make things too complicated and don’t want to trick you. Any changes or clarifications to competition rules during the event will be publicized.

  9. Last thing, we can detect clones. Don’t even try to submit something under another account. We will find out.

The Chamber of Justice hopes that this is a very clean event and that you have a lot of fun with it. We've had a good run the past couple of years with no major issues arising from our vendettas and I'd love for that trend to continue. Please enjoy yourself but play fair and play by the rules. If we have no Chamber cases out of this vendetta, I will be thrilled.

Have fun!

Good luck everyone! Look forward to the gamesmanship. :p
