Combat Master Open for Applications

Greetings all,

Unfortunately for all of us, Archenksov has stepped down from his position as Combat Master of the Antei Combat Center. Arch was a great Combat Master and he will be missed. I have had the pleasure of working with Arch for several years, and while he may think he’s escaped leadership for now, we’ll find a way to put him to work again in time!

Arch’s last report had a number of thoughtful comments on the ACC, and the questions he received, along with the general comments of the membership over the last few years, have prompted discussions on the Combat Master and Center’s future around the club. The Dark Council feels the ACC, and with it the CM, are valuable to our club and provide a unique platform unlike what most fan clubs can offer. We feel it is valuable to our club, but as with any of our systems, that does not mean we feel it is perfect.

That said, we wanted to clarify a few things regarding the position of CM. As Arch stated, the Combat Master reports to the Grand Master, and is not subordinate to the Voice. It is effectively at a "Tribune" level - the CM may generally remain in his or her home Clan, and administration of the ACC varies dramatically in time requirements depending on what is going on in the Brotherhood and the ACC at the time. The Combat Master interacts with both the Regent and the Voice, as ACC matches frequently deal with granular aspects of Possessions and the Character Sheet System. While we expect the CM to interact with these offices, we do NOT want the CM expecting to change either system directly.

In the past, the conflation of the ACC and the CS system has led to specific changes in the CS that have increased granularity, and we feel it is time to move away from that. As such, we wanted to once again reiterate that the CM is not directly responsible for CS or Possessions system changes. At the same time, the CM should - and will - be in regular contact with the Regent and the Voice about how changes or additions to either system might impact the ACC, as well as how the current status quo of those systems impacts ACC matches.

Moving forward, we need a new leader for the ACC, and we would like to open the position to bold ideas. We would like to hear from applicants on what they think of the current state of the ACC, in terms of its strengths and weaknesses, and what they would do to improve it. We would like a leader that can work closely with the DC on a shared vision to make the ACC more accessible to the general membership, to Clans for their own competitions, and to the Brotherhood - during Vendettas (if feasible) and other major events. Whether these topics involve big changes or not, we leave that up to applicants. If you are concerned that changes you wish to propose could require coding, reach out to me by email or Telegram. I can say right now, the ACC can not support more than 1v1 posting without a major overhaul - so don’t make that a central part of your application ;)

In addition to having plans for the ACC as defined above, applicants should have leadership experience in the Brotherhood, and while not a strict requirement, having some experience on the ACC Staff, ACC development, or as a long-term ACC participant, is strongly encouraged for applicants. For members that have not served on staff of the current incarnation of the ACC, the application should make clear an understanding of the current state of the ACC and why this lack of staff experience is not a problem for administering the ACC in the future.

We are opening applications today and they will remain open until March 1st. Please submit applications to Evant and myself by email, and feel free to reach out to me over Telegram or email with any questions about CM, the ACC, applications, or the like.

Thank you,

Telaris “Mav” Cantor

Grand Master

Big shoes to fill. Polish off them applications, folks. (And of course, thanks again Arch for your time as our CM!)

Thank you for your hard work, Archie.

Thank you, Arch. Not only have you been an awesome CM. You've answered any and all questions I've had about the ACC. Big shoes to fill.

good luck
