[GJW XVII - Animus] Chapter 2

As two mammoth navies clashed in the heavens above, the world of Nei’kapo smouldered below. The Collective committed to torching the entirety of the agricultural world to slow every step their enemies took, even if it meant their own lives. Dreadnaughts manned by the population of small nations burned throughout the firmament, as their turbolasers ignited and lances of plasma torched through the ever-growing debris field. Iron Navy and Collective vessels alike, gutted and exposed, their subframes glittered in the sunlight as they traversed beyond Nei’kapo’s shadow into the Cor’nerian sunlight.

A weathered hand grasped for the control dias of The Pride, focused and stern, as he regarded the communications officer. A projection of the battlefield flickered to life between the pair of them.

There were no words; purely silence, a shaken head, and more red indicator lights across the fleet.

The Iron Navy had thrown itself at a wall. They faced a cornered rat, one that had bared its fangs, and would fight to the last man for mutually assured destruction. Uji felt a tightness grow in his chest, his concentration further and further frayed as what should have been a decisive victory spiraled out of his palm.

A fracture in the Force.

The Fist threw his attention immediately toward the source, The Legacy. A twinned pair of Collective ships had latched onto the Iron Navy’s flagship before they deployed their artificial gravity wells, preventing its escape. A concentrated volley of turbolasers and torpedoes trailed after The Legacy, after Renatus, Uji’s vision grew dim, fading into nothingness. Thane...

“NO! I NEED TO KNOW!” The Fist pleaded against the darkness, to no avail.
