Pro Bowl X: Week Zero

Cor’neria System Elizabeth I 44 ABY 4 months after the Invasion A dull sound rumbled the distance. Then another.

Tovan's comlink crackled. He pulled it from his belt and turned the volume up. The transmission was broken, but enough came through to understand what was happening. “A relief depot had been hit on Nei'kapo. There are reports of explosions at utility stations on Lizzie One. Something had happened on Lizzie Two as well, though the channel was too crowded to make out what.”

Nima reached the top of the embankment. Her body slumped slightly at what she saw. Tovan joined her a moment later.

Sera stayed where she was. “What do you see?”

“Smoke,” he said.

“How much?”

He didn't answer.

Nima came back down the embankment and looked toward the ruined logistics center behind them. “They weren't trying to destroy the regulators.”

“No?” Sera said.

“They knew someone would come for them.”

Sera looked past her toward the smoke rising in the distance. The settlement had repair crews working on its power grid. There was a medical station there, too, and a temporary warehouse where relief supplies were being sorted before distribution to the smaller communities farther south.

“They want the recovery teams,” she said.
