SA Update #3

Greetings all,

A few moments ago, IRC Operator Studies was retired after having been on the curriculum for most of the last decade. It is replaced with a newly written course, IRC 301: Operator Studies.

Be on the lookout for more changes of this kind on the Horizon.

With regards to the Shadow Academy Society. The Academic Credits (AC) that belonged to IRC Operator Studies have been moved to IRC 301: Operator Studies. For those who passed the old course, this will mean you lose a few ACs. However, this will not be reflected in your current Society ranking. You will however find yourself with a few less Academic Credits towards the next rank.

For your enjoyment, this is pretty old but I'm not sure everyone has seen it yet: Injured Stormtrooper

I have a question...because I can :P

A while ago during a discussion of the Society and the way, it was on IRC, a point was brought up that it is unfair to loose AC credits when a course is deactivated...and a new one is replaced...we keep our rank yay..but now we have to replace those few AC points to get us back to where we were. How is that fair to go "Oh...well you did this course...but...its being replaced by this new one. You will loose the ACs for that exam."

But yet...the discussion on IRC almost assured us all that we wouldn't loose any additional ACs when courses were retired and new ones brought in. It was discussed and apparently not put into practice.

Specifically this by James: [15:44] <JaM3z> In any case, if up to me, credits earned now are retained whenever courses drop out, given that new courses become available to replace them

but yet this news post tells us other wise..credits are not retained they are lost and have to be reearned.

Thats all..im just curious as to why it was backed down on. Yeah however many ACs were lost might seem not substantial but i did take that course. If i am misreading something them please correct me...but i read it as Courses that were retired prior to the implementation of the Society would not have AC but future courses retired, members would not loose the ACs they earned.

I hate to point out the blindingly obvious, but I daresay an official statement from the Headmaster's office wouldn't have a 'if up to me' from someone from the Seneschal's office...

There were additional comments i thought i had copied and pasted but apparently missed. Spoken from the Shadow Academy itself:

[15:44] <JaM3z> In any case, if up to me, credits earned now are retained whenever courses drop out, given that new courses become available to replace them [15:44] <Ood> true [15:44] <Ood> would the point average be kept too? [15:45] <Ood> or would that change [15:45] <@`Malik> add a minimum amout of available courses required for the average to count maybe [15:45] <JaM3z> Ood: Inacive courses are excluded I think [15:45] <Ood> good [15:45] <Ood> if a credit course goes inactive [15:45] <Ood> the credit is kept [15:45] <Ood> but the course won't count for average anymore

I think, given the context of existing courses, Ood's comments there would refer to courses that haven't been replaced - totally inactive courses, as opposed to replaced courses.

We can still return the ACs to the old course if it turns out problematic. We are just testing it this way.

If we were to give ACs for having completed the old course, what's the point of bringing out the new course? :P

Update materials and such things. I was just bringing up something that was discussed on IRC and the members there were told that no more ACs would be taken back. I do not like when things are taken back without anyone noticing. People complained because the GMRG required you to hit a monthly limit to remain the rank you are or earn more to advance a rank...it was changed so that you no longer dropped a rank. Now the SAS is making it so everytime a course is removed and updated, people loose ACs they earned...which seems unfair. They were earned and counted towards the total and now you have to reearn them through a new course and then earn more to get towards the next rank that's what i dont see as fair and i remembered the discussion where we were told that it wouldnt happen in the future, so i wanted to know why the mind was changed.
