“Get in there you stoopa buncha bantha brains,” Hyward Duscal spat as he gave a strong shove to captured Brotherhood soldiers before him. A leader of the Collective assault team, he couldn’t have been more pleased with how quickly they had managed to take the Misery. By the time they broke through the sealed-off doors to the bridge, the crew surrendered without a further fight.

He had been taught the Brotherhood was a bunch of weak-willed wusses but these ones were even more so than that. Hyward was too focused on winning to notice just how willing the Brotherhood forces were to be locked in the cells of the ship. Soon the scientists and the rest of the captured Collective forces would be on board, free to return home. Hyward had already sent word back to the Cor’neria System: the Brotherhood was on the run, and the Principate had been caught with their pants down.

Hyward returned to the hangar bay and paced impatiently. Every moment taken was one the enemy was preparing to strike back. And with such a resounding success here in the Varton System, there were sure to be many rewards awaiting him back home. At last, the shuttle containing the first of the captured Collective agents arrived.

“Welcome aboard the Misery, comrades,” Hyward said as he stepped onto the shuttle. The recovered scientists shuffled awkwardly in their seats.

“Why have we landed? Why aren’t we immediately returning home?” one of them asked. Hyward was caught off guard.

“There… There are many more of our people on the surface. We will recover them and all return home together. Onboard this great prize, one of the Brotherhood’s own ships!” he managed to get out. He tried to give a reassuring smile but was met by blank stares from the scientists.

“This shuttle has a hyperdrive. We will not be waiting,” the same scientist said with the tone of command.

“I assure you, you are completely safe here, we will be gone long before the Brotherhood and Principate can retali—" Hyward began.

“Pilot, prepare to take us now,” the scientist spoke over Hyward. The engines began to buzz with life.

“This is not necessary,” Hyward stammered. But before he knew it, he was on the outside of the shuttle, watching it depart the hangar. He stood there a moment, attempting to process what had just happened.

“Sir, we’ve got incoming.” The intercom system snapped Hyward back into the moment. He turned on the spot and ran towards the bridge.

Hello Everyone!

I apologize for the slight delay in getting the results and closing fiction out. Several of us ran into some pretty major RL road bumps as the competitions closed that threw off the release of the results.

That said, fantastic work from everyone who participated, lots of really good submissions from people. As hinted at towards the end of the fiction update above, this is tying into the release of our third NPC faction to interact with.

The Tenixir Revenants will be filled in and added over the next little while. This new group of criminals and pirates happen to be very anti-Principate. As our relationships develop between the two you will see our relationship with the other group change as a result.
