Voice of the Brotherhood Report #18

header

Welcome to my 18th report as your Voice of the Dark Brotherhood. This report will feature the results of the Bosthirda Run On event and cover a few additional topics of note. The details:

  • Fiction: Bosthirda Results
  • Fiction: Bosthirda Stats
  • Fiction: Bosthirda Awards
  • Fiction: Is your work canon?
  • ACC: Fading Light (No Joke!)
  • The Voice's Word (Stolen from Jac)

Fiction: Bosthirda Results

I would like to congratulate the entire Dark Brotherhood on their fantastic effort during the Bosthirda Run On event. We had 24 teams and 122 members sign up for the event. In three weeks our members wrote 255,289 words of original Star Wars fan fiction! To put that into perspective, Atlas Shrugged ways in at 645,000 words. No bad!

The entries were very well done, but the judges believed Taldryan 2 delivered a superior product. Yacks, Shad, Jac, Halc, Tarax, and Rathus crafted an exceptionally well written story that was engaging and entertaining. They incorporated elements of the recent plot updates, Dark Brotherhood lore, and Star Wars knowledge that resulted in a clear winner. Congratulations to Taldryan on their win and their receipt of Revelation.

The rest of the entries were very well done and resulted in extremely close scoring. The top five finished:

  1. Taldryan 2 (Yacks, Shad, Halc, Tarax, Rathus, Jac).
  2. Plagueis 1 (Slags, Arden, Arturis, Teylas, Aabs).
  3. Arcona 2 (Legorii, Timmy, Wun, Nadrin, Verse, Socorra).
  4. Naga Sadow 4 (Izanami, Locke, Malik, Kiarus, Jades).
  5. Arcona 5 (Wally, Trouty, Dash, Tsai, Vic, Atty).

Fiction: Bosthirda Stats

Dark Brotherhood Words Written: 255,289
Arcona: 67,252
Naga Sadow: 54,592
Plagueis: 39,934
Odan Urr: 32,365
Taldryan: 31,924
Scholae: 21,713
Tarentum: 7,509

13/24 Teams Qualified for Judging. 3 teams had 1 x member fail to post.

Fiction: Bosthirda Awards

1) Clan Taldryan has won Revelation and one member from the Clan will be authorized to use the weapon on their dossier and within the ACC. I'll be working with Rian and Yacks over the next couple of days to hammer out the details.

2) Nova will be awarded tonight to the members of the top three teams. Congratulations!

3) Clusters of Ice will be awarded for this event per the awarding guidelines on the wiki (http://wiki.darkjedibrotherhood.com/view/Cluster_of_Ice). Members who completed the requirements of the run on will be awarded, those who did not meet the events minimum requirements will not receive CIs. I'll be working through these over the next several days.

The Bosthirda Run On featured many exceptional writers, but I would be remiss if I did not mention the exceptional work of Trouty, Shad, Jac, Macron, Aerin, Sa, and Izanami.

Fiction: Is Your Work Canon?

Shad asked an exceptionally important question the other night concerning official Dark Jedi Brotherhood competitions and how they impact your character. This is a tricky question because we do not want to limit the creative freedom of our members, nor do we want them to believe the work they submit in competitions is a waste of time.

However, not everyone can put on their wiki that they reclaimed Revelation. In this particular example, only Taldryan can claim they retrieved the weapon. Everyone else participated in the battle, could have entered the tomb, but in the end, only Taldryan reclaimed the weapon.

A rule of thumb is to refrain from claiming your character retrieved an artifact, blew up the Avenger II, or cured Horizons unless your team won an event or you were featured in official fiction. Other than that, work around the edges and blur the lines, but avoid claiming things that your character could not have done/or did not do by virtue of competition results

ACC: Dark Crusade: Fading Light

The worst kept secret in the Dark Brotherhood is that the next round of Fading Light will be a singular ACC tournament.

This is your official warning to qualify for the ACC or you will be unable to participate in the next round.

The Voice's Word (:p)

Phew. We are a busy club and busy people. One of our strong points is the acceptance that this is a collaborative environment that requires the help of multiple individuals to ensure updates and competitions happen in a timely manner. The Voice Office is busy with plot updates, GJW story writing, ACC going live, DJB Lore Updates, DJB Military Updates, and a long over due Shadow Academy course (Sorry Ood). These sort of things can tie me up and I appreciate everyone's efforts to lighten the load.

In particular, I'd like to thank Brain the Voice/FIST/Herald, Atty, Zoron, Teu, and Esca for providing Word versions of the run ons; Mark/James for conducting a search of all plot updates over the past 15 months; Wally and Alaris for rewriting the Character Sheet Creation Guide; and finally Shad and Mav for handling proof reading on past plot updates. All of these people have contributed greatly to the DJB and personally saved me a ton of time. My thanks should come in a digital package later this week :p

Conclusion

Thanks for you patience on our competition results. Muz/Raken/I hammered through them as fast as real life allowed.

I'll be hanging out and playing D3 over the next several days. Our D3 clan is an exceptional place and one that has the potential to have 3 x old crusty Grand Masters playing (JAC and FF are super crusty).

See everyone online :p

Darth Pravus

Great report. And congratulations go out to Taldryan on their win, brilliant stuff :) As a side note great job to Plagueis team 1, fantastic achievement.

Congratulations, Taldryan. It was an excellent read and I enjoyed it.

Well done, Brotherhood! That's a lot of writing.

Much appreciation for the kind words and the win, Sarin. I read through a few of the other ROs and was astounded by how well the competition was going about things. These are not ROs of old where things were disjointed and unrealistic. Each one I saw had a good deal of planning and excellent implementation. Cheers to all the participants.

Also, everyone: Play more D3. That is all.

Jac

Congratulations, everyone! It's great to see so many strong teams. Really well done.

Fuck. Does this mean that my arm being torn off is now DB canon?

Well done, teams!

Yes Tarax, it is all torn to shit.

Congrats to those that placed. Also wanted to say how nice it was for once to have a team that actually all participated so nice job to Arcona team 4.

That'll do, pandas. That'll do.

Awesome stuff. (Thanks for the stats, Sarin!) Well done to Tal and to everyone else who placed! :D

Congratulations all

Great work to all of the run-on teams, particularly the Top 5!

With the competition I've seen in all the other RO's that placed top five, and frankly stunned that we took second. I think everyone on that list did some really good work, and generated some content that was a blast to read through. :)

Great work, guys. Very impressive!
