Weapons and the ACC

Greetings all!

A few announcements today related to the ACC that are of particular relevance to weapons used in the upcoming tournament...

  1. As you all are undoubtedly aware, only characters with 4 or fewer weapons will be added to the tournament itself. Note that we consider "Throwing Knives" to be a single weapon, while "Dual Blasters" is two weapons. Grenades or sets of items are considered to have enough to engage in a meaningful use of the item, but excessive reliance on them (e.g., throwing a dozen grenades in a single combat) is not only unrealistic but poorly written story.. This is taken directly from the Fading Light Begeren ACC Rules and related to the number of weapons in the "Weapon Loadout" slot.

  2. As #1 alludes to, "Preferred Weapons" has been changed to "Weapon Loadout."

  3. The the ACC is no longer allowing the use of any previously awarded weapons or custom items from the ACC itself. It is possible the ACC may award items again in the future, but somewhat unlikely. This has no effect on items awarded by a past Herald or Grand Master.

  4. Just as importantly as #1, we are adding additional effects to sacramental weapons, that will shortly be added to the Wiki. This is, in some ways, a preliminary list of abilities of these weapons, so it could be updated. This is to encourage the use of these weapons in combat... If someone so chooses. The Wiki entries for these items will be updated to reflect these changes soon-ish.

  • Silver Sash: Cortosis is woven into the sash itself; however, this does not deactivate lightsabers, just effectively deflects them (yes, I know this upsets some of you purists in terms of the way cortosis works ;) )
  • Diamond Sword: Equivalent to a Sith Sword for purposes of lightsaber combat and blaster bolt deflection. Incredibly sharp (diamond, duh! ;) )
  • Emerald Dagger: Incredible sharp, able to shatter nearly any non-lightsaber/blades treated with Sith Alchemy/sacramentals mentioned as impervious
  • Ruby Scepter: Impervious to non-lightsaber/alchemical blades.
  • Amethys Kukri: Deflects blasters, disruptors.
  • Sapphire Blade: Hard to damage (not impervious - would break under repeated strikes), dissipates blasters.

In addition, the Express Guide for character sheets has been revamped (actually, this happened a couple months ago) to a Character Creation Guide, and as always, all character sheets are subject to the Character Sheet Approval Guidelines.

That's it for now!

Telaris “Mav” Cantor
Combat Master

Can I use Nitemare, the sword formerly known as Revelation?

Dear Mav,

While I am aware that you have to do your duties as Combat Master. I feel that I should make you aware of the fact that I am claiming Howie as my war mount for this event.

That will be all.

Tarax: I think so, since I think that falls under the category of GM-given weapon.

not sure I follow this so I am going to ask a question. Dose this mean that any sacramental weapons that we have been given in the past no longer can be used or that it is weapons given other then sacramental weapons that are already on the site as awards? I ask because I have both a Amethys Kukri and a Sapphire Blade. I have been trained in them on my character sheet and if I cant use them I wish to change that to use something else.

@Kaira: You can use them! #3 applies specifically to custom items given from the ACC itself. At one point, the ACC gave out weapons, armor, and other items with special properties. Those items you can't use. You can use any sacs you've earned in the past!

Kaira, the key point is "from the ACC itself". The ACC had previously allowed people to use certain items for the ACC-only. They were very specific, and only awarded through the ACC. Sacramental weapons clearly do not fall under this.

Thank you I wanted to make sure I under stood.

Kaira, I don't think this will affect your Sapphire Blade or Amethyst Kukri, especially since they just got special attributes added, but weapons displayed on the old ACC website that were awarded to the champions of the various past tournaments. ;)

Damn Halc was faster than me XD

it is alright Rian thank you!

I feel like GLS should have the Effect of "Inspiring immediate surrender and dance parties". This effect has been approved by the affected membership for this tournament. Carry on.

If I go up against someone with a GLS I clearly failed my luck roll. :(

Except Kir. Kir's the worst.

Umm, you forgot the Ruby Scepter's use as a bludgeon of supreme power...

Medals are weapons now?

Can I take my 110 or so LS in a large sack and whack people with said sack? :P

Kinda sucks that ACC awarded items and weapons can't be used in ACC events.

Does such a move leave you in poodoo, Brim?

So, uhhh... I had to make a quick edit to my CS to add that Silver Sash ;)

I wonder if you can use a Silver Sash as a whip-like weapon...

Banana Hammock!

No andre. I wasn't good enough to win an ACC award. I still ain't, but doesn't stop me from trying.

Btw, as cs goes, what's the rules for speaking other language other than basic? Since most of us do have other languages, I would like clairification on being able to use these in battles.

With linguistics at 0, members can speak basic and whatever other language their selected species can speak (as according to wookieepedia) with every increase in linguistics, you can add 1 other language (I think)

As for using them in your posts... I would hazard a guess that it's probably not the best choice. I mean, someone could write a bunch of shyriwook as their dialogue if they wanted, but personally my character would just hear growls and moans.

I know I some books authors have used square brackets to denote non-basic. I assume though that for everyone's ease you should probably try to stick to English. Not every judge can speak wookiee or whatever your character can.

Just my opinion though, could be wrong.

Unless you just note that your character speaks in the other language and not actually have it as dialogue.

For example I (who has binary as a language, lol) could write that I swore in binary and describe what it would have sounded like to the opponent who can't understand it. I wouldn't actually include "01001011010101101010110101010101010110101010101010100101010101010001011111010101010" in the post :P

It's also a way of demonstrating that you read the other person's CS if you write about your knowledge of a language and the other's lack of understanding of it.

Note that you as the story teller know what languages each combatant knows, but you the character might not actually know the full dossier of the opponent and as such might assume lack of knowledge or not.

ZERO ONE! ZERO ONE!

Amazing

If you are using alien languages, follow two rules of thumb:

A.) Don't make a judge have to look up the language or words. Making footnotes does not make it excusable. Anything that distracts from the story or flow of combat should act as an indicator as well.

B.) Language should be able to be determined through context. If it's a curse, you can do something simple as:

"Osik," the Mandalorian swore.

Even if you don't know that "Osik means "shit" in Mandalorian, you can imply the emotion of a swear that's organic to the Character. If I want, I can look it up, but it's not required and thus it is not a distraction as a judge reading the fight.

But yes, all races get Galactic Basic by default, as well as their own language. any additional languages require a point in linguistics.

Languages are outlined clearly in the Character Creation Guide on the Wiki for further clarification.

Just a judges .02 As you were.

Zero One! Zero One!

I don't ACC for now but having read this I find Amplification a little weak. At very most we get an extra three fourths of the original strength? I'm fairly sure in the movies, books, and games we see characters performing jumps of many times their original ability. Considering the high jump world record is 2.45, that means a character with maximum acrobatics and the highest Amplification (the highest any Dark Jedi can jump) is less than 4.5 meters, or have I just read that wrongly? Fairly sure Obi-Wan jumped way higher than that using only his arms while only a padawan.

Some of the power and feat descriptions are in desperate need of tweaking. There are several that are just blatantly wrong. Hopefully this will be done before the tournament starts...

I kind of dislike that weapons earned for work in the ACC cannot now be used apparently. It does not seem to honor the work done. Like my Armor Fist, earned during the NPC/Creature trials and given by Dalthid for service in Sept. of '06. Does the rule of "no Armory weapons" also apply to ones earned for service to the ACC?

@Macron: Yes, no items with special properties, e.g. lightsaber resistance or stat increases. If you want to use a version of the item without anything special, then that's fine. The reason we are doing this is that: 1) Lightsaber resistant items shouldn't really exist for us pretty much at all, 2) Some bonuses don't even apply to our current system anymore. 3) Many were non-canon weapons and we are trying to stick to canon as much as possible now.

If your item had something special in particular about it, other than just being an armored fist, then that wouldn't function in all likelihood. If instead, your item is just an armored glove, I don't think that's an issue. Same goes for people that were using, say, some kind of sword or dagger. If there's any confusion over specific items, feel free to contact me.

The argument about using old fake acc weapons is kinda like saying "I had the best gear in SWG, so I should have the best gear in SWTOR." The Old and busted ACC and the new ACC are fundamentally different. They share a name, and a common purpose, but almost nothing else about them is the same thing. They're not even based on the same RPG Base.

Perhaps later on, old ACC awards, which are djb canon, will get a look at and seen about implementation in the future.
