Game Spy shuting down…

As of May 31, 2014, GameSpy will shut down. What dose that mean for the Brotherhood? Empire at War and Battlefront 2, despite going on sale on Steam this past weekend, will not be playable online any longer though the service. I believe you will still be able to connect directly to a friends computer but you wont be able to play on online servers any longer.

Are there alternatives?

Apparently GameRanger is an option. I hear a lot of people use it for the older games (and can have larger communities than GameSpy did...)

I've never used it, can't vouch for it, don't know how it work. I only saw it in the comments of an IGN article two seconds ago.

BF2 rocked - guess we may just have a slight void for the next year or so until BF3 finally releases

I splitscreened the hell out of the two Battlefront games on the original xbox

Can't say I've ever actually liked GameSpy. As long as there's an alternative though, perhaps we could have the FIST Staff write a brief guide for using it in the gaming information section of the wiki?

I've dabbled in GameRanger a bit and it worked fine for me. I only used it for Age of Empires, though.
