Aedile Report #1 - Straight To Work [27 Jul]

header

The war had taken its toll on everything and everyone. The entire planet of New Tython was now in the process of rebuilding, assemblies had gathered, relief supplies cobbled together and shipped out to tribes all across the world to aid in the process of rebuilding. Odanites all across the planet, however, seemed a little down; perhaps the war had drained more of their spirit than they had originally thought. Times were hard for every Tythonian, no matter where they hailed from. The Jedi Council intended to meet to remedy this problem.

"First they name me Rollmaster, now you as Aedile - every time I seem to get somewhere, you're always past me," murmured the voice of Rhiann Baenre, recently-named Rollmaster, and only the second newest addition to the Jedi Council. The newest, the Titan himself, sat upon his new chair at the right hand of Liam Torun. He looked... dour, like the tiger within was begging to be uncaged and let out for a fight before it died of apathetic complacency. His student was staring at him with intensity, trying to gauge the mentality of her Master before she said something out of turn. Not all had been right with him as of late - things were changing, times were changing, and at the end of the war they appointed a warrior to the Council. A reward for service, perhaps? Or was it something else?

They all had their secrets, this Council.

"I'm far more proud of you than myself, my apprentice," Mirus said with a flicker of his icy blue gaze. "You've excelled in ways I could not have." She blushed - as usual, unable to actually take a compliment.

"Now, now, Mirus, let's not leave the poor lady embarrassed," jokingly chided Turel Sorenn, sitting across from her. Battle-brothers, they had forged the strongest bond of all: one bound under a trial by fire. As Battleteam Leader of the Knights of Allusis, Turel and Mirus had worked together closely and, more than once, driven the enemy back with their own blood. They knew how to work as a team. They knew their strengths and weaknesses. They knew that his appointment was the right choice.

And, while Mirus was far less familiar with the presences next to Turel - Revak Kur and Nathan Deciarius, leaders of Baas and Ooroo, he would become so soon enough. They watched him, quietly, with little more than a gaze passing between them. The pair welcomed their brother, of course. Why would they not? Their judgement was, however, simple: would a man geared perfectly for war suit the needs of a Jedi Council in the midst of rebuilding a world? Neither of them knew. They would be watching, waiting, seeing whether he would fly or fall.

Those thoughts were all interrupted with the sudden presence and arrival of the Quaestor, who moved through the doorway without a second thought. "Greetings, Councilors," said the elderly Jedi Master as he walked into the room, graceful and driven with poise despite his age. "We have business to attend to. Let's begin."

~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen of our beloved House. I'm here with some good news and some bad news. Due to the exigence of real life, our beloved Aedile, A'lora Kituri, has stepped down - he's off to university to go and kick ass with his incredible mind. To replace him, Liam approached me directly to be the next Aedile of Odan-Urr. I've been working with Summit for the past couple of weeks and it's now official. It's kind of surreal, to be honest! I didn't expect to be doing this at all, but here we are, and now it's time I get to work for you.
Liam would be posting this, but he went to bed, and you all need your dose of news and updates. He's given me his blessing to post this up today, and so here we are.
~~~~~~~~~~~

A couple of news bites first because let's get the positives in. First off, everyone, welcome Gellm'arco'nuruodo to Odan-Urr; he's stunned me already by hitting Disciple in one day. I was not expecting this. Welcome to the Odan-Urr family, bro. It's good to have you on board - new members of your dedication are an extremely rare thing and I'm proud of you.

General news!

  • Liam was promoted to Equite 4!!!!! HOU HYPE abounds, for this promotion is well-earned. Read some heartfelt recs on his dossier, and don't forget to say congratulations.
  • Aabsdu makes Master-at-Arms! Well done, Aabs.
  • The position of Plagueis Consul is open if you want to apply! We lost Rai to them and he seems happy over there, so if you wanna go hang with Rai, go apply?
  • Liam puts out a new competition! Tales of the Jedi - go get hype here.

~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm not going to waste time with flowery words. I'm not going to sit here and be all "oh but I'm going to be ever such a good Aedile we're going to do this and that and flowers and kittens and puppies!". If you want flowers and kittens and puppies, well, you can have them! You'll have to ask for them on your own. This report has been written to tell you, the members, exactly what you can expect of me as an Aedile, my game plan going forward, and what you can all hold me accountable for. And that's what I want. I want you, the members of this House, to hold me accountable for every word and action I make as a member of your Summit. I am here to serve you. How? Let's see.
My job is to provide you, the members, the platforms upon which you can excel. My plan is very simple: go back to basics. Most of you want us to Clan - funnily enough, these two goals are identical. I've been working on this problem at the request of Summit for quite some time, so now I'm going to share with you my findings and how we can proceed on this front.
  • Awards and promotions. You may have seen me write recs for them despite not being on Summit. I love handing out awards. I will be on the prowl for reasons to hand them out. I'd like to hand out one a week if at all possible; if we all get active, with a House of 50+, it's easily doable. Ladies and gents, give us a reason to award you, and we will make sure you get what you earn. Simple as that. This one's my personal crusade. I know a lot of you have felt under-appreciated for a while, and we're working on it as best as we possibly can. Bear with us through the MAA change, and we'll make damn sure you guys get what you deserve.
  • Competitions. Our participation in comps lately has been low, maybe because Summit has been overbearing in comps, or they aren't to your liking? I don't know. Leave us your feedback for this one and we'll see how we can tweak HOU's competition process and make it more easily accessible/interesting for everyone.
  • Recruitment. Rhiann's on this one, and she'll run train on this in her reports going forward (her recent one already did - go read it again!), but we do need to get our member numbers up. Spread the word, guys. Odan-Urr is a community built on the foundations of having people here to interact with. Let's get some fresh faces in the door. Help the House by bringing in new members - the club will reward you for your effort. Equites, train the new members - the club, and House, will be thankful for this.
  • Projects and training. People want things to do beyond the norm, of course. Turel's Wiki project, for instance - people asked for work to do and it's getting done. People also expressed wanting to learn more advanced gaming, graphics and fiction in the Summit survey. Done. We, Summit, will ensure this is provided to you. Speak up, express your wants and opinions, and we will do everything in our power to make it happen. We have some of the club's best talent in every single field - find them, speak to them, learn from them.
My job is, as Aedile, to interface with the other Summit members. I act through the Rollmaster and the Battleteam Leaders to ensure that the membership is content. I am expected to deliver to the Quaestor consistent and accurate updates and, should the need arise, act in the stead of the Quaestor should he be absent. The above list of things is what I am determined to deliver you. Want more? Ask. We'll make it happen as a team.
SUMMIT, as an acronym, my guiding principle: Support We're here to support you and provide you everything you need. Unity. We're here to act as a unified team, to work together to deliver you what you want. Member Management. We'll track your progress, help you get where you want to be, and reward you appropriately for your efforts. Information. We're here to keep you informed through reports and emails, to keep you up to date with what's going on in the DJB and in HOU. Training. We help our new members learn the ropes, make sure they're happy, and provide the older members with knowledge in the fields they wish to excel in. That's our job. Hold us to it.
Here's my one and only actual, solid promise to you, House, in this report. I am a man of my word. If I make a promise, I will keep it, so here's my promise: I will do everything in my power to see you, the members, satisfied. Do you want to learn some new skills - graphics, gaming, fiction? Done. Do you want new competitions to enter and flex your muscle? We will provide. Do you want to hang out and chat? That's easy. Do you want us to become a Clan? I can't promise you that because I can't deliver that on my own. You have to promise yourself that one. You have to jump on board and help out in your own way.
Odan-Urr is what we make it, guys. We have a brilliant House here and we're going to shine brighter than the sun - together.
~~~~~~~~~~~

One thing I'd like to say before this ends. I would like to make mention of the fact that HOU has had the best damn Aedile this club has ever seen. A'lora Kituri served Odan-Urr as its Aedile for an incredible twenty months. Twenty months. Almost two straight years, of growth, of success. He scored roughly ten Novae in the Dark Crusade, he's brought HOU over 50 members consistently. He's written some killer fiction, crafted some amazing graphics, brought on some stellar gaming results. He leads from the front. For every project you see, there's always another in the works, penned by him, ready to go, always awaiting testing or something else. Today I would like to celebrate a man whose work is the shining example that drives me forward, that I will try to emulate (in my own way), to be the best possible Summit member I can be. I have the biggest shoes in the club to fill - but today I'd like to say thank you. Please, guys, if you get to catch A'lora around - or even just do it here in the comments - please say thank you to one of the greatest members in DJB history for his incredible work.

In fact, please take some time out to thank all your Summit members. I've had the opportunity over the past week or two to work with these guys, to see how they work - I've never seen a Summit team so well-organised or communicative. These guys are talking every hour of every day, non-stop. They work literally endlessly for you and it's just... humbling to watch. Please say thank you to them, too. I know they'd appreciate it. These guys are all some serious heroes.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, enough waffling, I have a mountain of paperwork to clear and some emails to write. I'm going to get straight on that. If you want to contact me and get a response within 24 hours, you can email me at [Log in to view e-mail addresses]. If you want to contact me urgently, please get a message to a Summit member, as they all have my phone number and can text me with what you need. I ask Summit not to give out said number, but they all know to send me a message if something's up and you guys really need me for whatever. My door is always open to you all.
Get hype, ladies and gents. It's our time now.
Congratulations Mirus on your appointment. I look forward to seeing what the summit brings out in the future. Also, a big thank you to A'lora. Good luck with university and thanks for your hard work as Aedile.
That graphic at the bottom turned out better than I thought it would. Dat stamp.
Congratulations Mirus and thank you A'lore for being a great Aedile. Good luck with going to university.
Dat fiction! It makes Summit discussions seem way more epic and dignified than what usually occurs on whatsapp and IRC.
A'lora, you have literally been the rock of the summit for as long as I've been around. It has been an honor to serve with you and of course you know we're working on something shiny for you ;)
Mirus all I can say is that with you and Rhiann both on summit now,
Team Titan FTW!
We have dignified discussions?
I'm commenting on your report.
That stamp at the bottom of your report looks like the Ministry of Magic seal in Harry Potter.
AW YEAH KEEPING IT FOREVER
