Deathwatch Report #2: Happy New Year!

(Fiction update.)

Yuanming House Wren Headquarters

By the Living Force, what the hell happened in here!?

The scene that greeted the Battleteam Leader just a few minutes later was certainly not what he was expecting. The walls were stained in a particular red liquid on each side of the room. Appius could only assume that it was blood as it trickled down in a collection of patterns onto the carpet below like a vast burgundy ocean. House Wren was using the building for administration purposes. Tables had splintered and broken apart in the carnage and valuable equipment that once was usable was now in several pieces. But what struck him the most were the small number of shrivelled and mutilated carcasses lying in the centre of the room, all of which appeared to have the emblem of the Collective engraved upon their chest plates.

Hello once again, Deathwatch!

Welcome to my January report! New year, new Battleteam, new event! Kind of fitting isn't it? This one won't be as long as my previous report but I just wanted to go over a couple of things before Deathwatch: Chapter 1 kicks off in a few days.

The Battleteam itself

I'm absolutely stoked with the progress that has been made since my last report. The Battleteam has gained three more members in Dral, Rajhin and Trenkyp, we have a basis for the Deathwatch headquarters figured out and we now have our own Battleteam possessions. (Thank you, Pravus and Val!) From what I see, you guys are amazingly passionate about what we are doing and I couldn't be happier to have you in the Battleteam. We essentially built this sub unit together and will continue to do so.

Deathwatch Chapter 1

This is the first event that will kick off the Battleteam fictionally. With the attempt on the Quaestor's life causing Battleteam Deathwatch to spring into action, it's up to us to find those responsible and deal with them and ensure this doesn't happen again.

It will run from the 5th of January until the 21st of January and will have seven sub competitions in a container. I've done my best to offer everyone a little bit of something, after all, my job is to make sure you guys have fun! You have fiction, art, a game from the play store and more. (Sorry! No spoilers.) If there's any concerns about it, feel free to email me or message me on Telegram.

Once the event starts you can see all the competitions for Deathwatch: Chapter 1 here.

Awards and Praise

As Count Dooku once said, "I've been looking forward to this." In this report, I will start by looking over the introductory competition series we did a couple of months ago.

2nd place: Dral Falgorth with 12 points

3rd place: Kano Tor Tydex with 11 points.

You don't get much closer than that, do you? Congratulations to all of you for your efforts during that competition!

I'm also going to give praise to members for elevating their status in the societies. They are an integral part of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood and deserve to be recognised.

  • Hector Ricmore

Inquisitorius to rank VIII

  • Kano Tor Tydex

Ask Appius Anything!

Kano asks:

Who let the dogs out?

You did. I told you already, Kano! The House Wren security hounds are not pets.

Dral asks:

2+2?

2+2 what? Mandalorians? Planets? Porgs? I need context my good man!

Mako asks:

Appius, as a bt, house, and clan that's is mostly top loaded with eq3 and up, what is your plan at the bt level to get the higher level equities involved and interested in normal activity and with the bt/house/clan as a whole. And if this plan doesn't seem to be working do you have back up ideas you could try as well?

So we have to look at what an Equite ranked member is. They are passionate, creative and most of all. They have ideas and want to do things. How else would they have reached their ranks otherwise? So far, I've done my damnedest to make sure that every member of my Battleteam's voice can be heard and can have an input on everything. From Battleteam wiki stuff/lore such as the Headquarters to the kind of competitions they would like to partake in.

My plan is to have everyone involved at all times. There's literally nothing I don't tell them in regards to the Battleteam. I've taken feedback from them and made a series of comps the Battleteam can (I hope) enjoy.

As for a backup plan. I'll be honest, I don't have one. I'm a firm believer in having everyone be involved in the creative process. If for whatever reason this doesn't work out then we will try something else when that time comes. I'm nothing if not adaptable. Honestly though, I'm not worried about that. Every member has been fantastic and looking to be involved.

Dral also asks:

Given the option, 5 mins or 10 mins for standard getaway time? This matters.

Knowing you, I'll ask for ten and you will give me five.

Mako also asks:

In your opinion what makes a good unit leader and what makes a successful unit leader?

That's an interesting couple of questions. Well, let's start with the first part. What makes a good unit leader I believe is someone who listens to those who leads, makes competitions for them, gets them involved and overall makes things fun and enjoyable. (Not to mention, having a good attitude.)

Successful is a bit different. You can measure it on a couple of different things, activity, awards, member participation, promotions etc etc. But I think what makes a successful leader is admitting you have your own weaknesses and allowing yourself to be helped.

Let's use myself as an example. I joined the Dark Jedi Brotherhood on the 9th June last year. I don't know everything. Of course I don't. But there are members in my Battleteam that have the knowledge to aid me where I lack it.

For example, Kano Tor Tydex has experience creating Battleteam's before from the ground up as I was doing with Deathwatch, he's been a source of wisdom and experience for me to look to when I need it.

Hector Ricmore knows the possessions system like no-one else I've seen outside of the regent staff. I don't. And that knowledge has been instrumental in giving us recommendations and options for our Battleteam possessions.

Dral Falgorth has been a consistent source of activity and passion (2nd place overall for Deathwatch: an introduction) and has never been afraid to offer his opinions. Something I appreciate at all times. I get it Dral, more artillery and explosions am I right?

Turel/Rajhin joined only recently and instantly threw himself in to what were doing. Doesn't surprise me really when I look at his accomplishments. Anything I've asked him he's answered wholeheartedly and honestly.

Trenkyp Zkig is our newest addition to both the Clan and the Battleteam and has been willing to get involved with everything.

I suppose my point is... a successful leader is one that lets everyone else shine and allows them to fill the gaps in their own weaknesses and gives praise where praise is due. After all, these people owe nothing to me and I owe everything to them for even giving me a chance.

Competitions

Time to unwind. - A graphics competition that ends in two days.

“Life is hard is in the Brotherhood, that much we all know. But all of us, Jedi, Sith and everything in between need a little time to unwind sometimes and maybe... just watch the fireworks.”

New Year's Resolutions - A fiction competition that starts today!

“It's a brand new year and citizens across the galaxy are making vows, oaths, New Year's Resolutions. Will they keep them? Or will they break in the first few days. The question is. Will you be one of the few with a resolve made of Beskar? Or will you buckle like most everyone else.”

Deathwatch Chapter 1 - this is the series that kicks off our Battleteam's story! Starts on the 5th of January. Have at it, guys!

Vizsla Monthly Cluster Race - Our monthly cluster race ran by Zoron. The December edition finishes today!

Sketchy Situation 1 - A graphics competition that begins in January ran by Kano. Once again, starts today! Let's show him our support! (And possibly our lack of art skills.)

Bounty hunting is a complicated profession.

It seems as though you have been spotted while out hunting down a recent bounty. The eyewitness didn't know who you were or why you executed that man in a dark alleyway but they did know that information leading to an arrest could land some extra credits in their pockets. During an interview with the security forces the eyewitness did a sketch of the killer on a piece of paper. Will this sketch be your downfall?

Conclusion

Ok, maybe I was wrong about the length of the report. Apologies about that but I'm sure you were all expecting it. So, Happy New Year and get ready for Deathwatch: Chapter 1!
