Deputy Grand Master: Report 1

header

Welcome to my first report as your Deputy Grand Master. I'd like to thank Muz for trusting me with this position and I'd like to thank all of our members for their kind words. I look forward to serving as the DGM and working with all of you to make our club a better place.

My immediate priorities are to bring to conclusion the ACC Tournament in successful manner, launch the final round of Fading Light, and plan the upcoming GJW. In addition to these things, Muz and I are placing an emphasis on ensuring the DC is meeting the needs of our members. We hope to accomplish this by showing more transparency in the decision making process as well as streamlining the decision making processes within our club. On to business.

This report will cover.

  • Fading Light Nicht Ka
  • The Great Jedi War
  • The Dark Council
  • Open Positions
  • Conclusion

Fading Light: Nicht Ka

We plan to launch Fading Light Nicht Ka on 10 October 2014 and conclude it on 2 November 2014. Nicht Ka will feature fiction, gaming, graphics, puzzle, and triva events. Scoring will be handed in the exact same way as previous Fading Light events (1st=15, 2nd=10, 3rd=5 points). I am in discussion with the CONs/PCONs/QUAs/AEDs of the individual units to finalize this event. You can access the planet write up at: Nicht Kah.

Great Jedi War - Blue Milk (Working Title)

Great Jedi War XI is tentatively scheduled for 9 January 2015 and conclude on 8 February 2015. The CONs/PCONs/QUAs/AEDs are providing input on events, scoring, and fictional aspects of the competition. I plan on conducting this collaborative planning session for the remainder of September to ensure that each of our units are able to provide feedback. The GJW is the biggest thing we do and Muz and I are not going to plan it in a vaccum. Expect to see a lot of collaborative planning in the future.

The Great Jedi War will feature several of our younger members and continue the Dark Crusade/Fading Light's focus on non Dark Council members (if you are keeping score, DC/FL fiction has highlighted over 30 non Dark Council members). This is a direct result of my belief that our members do not really want to read about Muz and Pravus swinging their lightsabers at the latest bad guy. Of course, this isn't to say that Muz and Pravus are not going to make an appearance, but you can expect a lot more than us. As always, I will reach out to you in the event your character is going to be featured. This is to ensure your character is written correctly.

The Dark Council - They are busy

It is not always easy to see the work that is being completed by the Dark Council. I thought I'd highlight some of their recent accomplishments based on Internal Reviews.

FIST: Did you know in the last 60 days the FIST Staff has processed 662 PVP submissions and 222 PVE submissions? They have also ran 8 DJB wide competitions with 116 participants, written 9 news posts, conducted a Diablo CF review, conducted PVP PoB review, conducted a TOR CF review, and formed two new gaming guilds.

HRLD: Did you know the HRLD has recently Completed 183 warbanners, 33 lightsabers, and 105 miscellaneous tasks?

SCL: Did you know that the SCL has recently conducted 423 commits to the site's codebase. These include, but are not limited to Legacy Titles, sitestability improvements, changes to the prestige system, the GMRG reboot, additional site themes, deployment of the ACC and subsequent ACC fixes and changes, a Call to Action system for vendettas, automating the PVP score mechanism in various places, a tag and category based filter system for the news page, measures to better detect and/or decrease (both accidental and intentional) clone joins, updates to upstream libraries and tools, rolling AWOL checks, and the groundworks for a news bulletin service for rogue members.

HM: Did you know that the HM staff has recently graded 1328 courses, launched 8 new courses, have rewritten 11 courses, and have 10 more in the planning process?

MAA: Did you know the MAA is reviewing all policies, updating journeyman promotion systems, evaluating crescent policies, and developing a MAA specific reward system for Clans?

Open Position

Tribune: Wiki: Ben has stepped down as T:Wiki and we are in need of a replacement. The wiki is a tremendous asset to our club and Muz and I value this position as a key responsibility within the club. If you are interested, please send an application to Muz and I by 21 September 2014. Please list your wiki experience, provide some sample wiki work, and explain to us your plans for the wiki in the future. We are looking for someone with a considerable amount of wiki experience and knows how to work within our existing system. The positions duties and responsibilities can be found at: T:W. Thanks.

Combat Master: The position of Combat Master is not open at this time. Mav will remain as both the Voice and the CM until we have an opportunity to review the Combat Master position. Thanks!

It has been a busy week. I have read, reviewed, and responded to all of the Dark Council and Independent Unit's Internal Reviews. I am comfortable with the direction of our club, but also look forward to many changes in the future.

Being a part of a leader team in the DJB is a tricky task and I appreciate the opportunity to try my hand at it once again. Earlier this week I had a discussion with Howie about our club and how it is not a business and how it is not the Army. I am extremely happy that is is neither of those things. I, like many of you, come to the Dark Jedi Brotherhood for fun. This is the driving reason I have been a member for over a decade and the driving reason I will continue to be a member. I don't want the DJB to be work, and I will never treat it that way. This is an internet club and we should always keep that in mind. Business models, military accountability, and all of that other jazz goes right out the window when we talk about club dynamics and the social capital of online clubs. The bottom line, if the DJB is not fun, people will find something else to do with their time.

So, that is my goal. Keep working towards making the DJB a better place for all of us to hang out. For me, this means letting the club know where we are headed, letting everyone have a say in our major events, and working together to keep our Dark Jedi Brotherhood alive and strong.

I look forward to the future.

And...I'd like to congratulate Mav on Voice! Monty on P:DGM and Zoron on M:DGM! :p

I believe the dates for the GJW currently require time moving in reverse.

Wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey GJW? Great report, boss!

GJW starting on the best day of the year? Weird.

That'll do Pravus, that'll do.

A GJW lasting -11 months? Impressive.

Also, Blue Milk should totally be the title of it.

GJW timeline fixed. Thanks for keeping me humble. :p

Hell, why not a gjw lasting 11 months. Crusade was nearly a year and fading light almost as long.

We're super duper troopers.

...Please no.

Awesome report. I think its great to show what each department has done too :)

Great report, Sarin, thanks for the insight into the DC departments.

A GJW lasting 11 months would be terrible, also the original dates meant it would last negative 11 months.

"...Please no."

^^^^^

I agree. ^^^^

1 month!

Also, for the people interested in applying for T:Wiki, the wiki practically runs itself with little need for oversight. Please don't try to make it something else :P

The Wiki needs tearing down! All the things need to be changed!

Sexy Report graphics.

Halc, you can't make the ENTIRE wiki green :P

Says who? :P
