Exarch Report 18: Ping

┬─┬ノ( º _ ºノ)

It’s been a minute since my last report. In my defense, I’ve had a few big life changes happen all at once: first I bought a house, which ended up being a 3-4 month process that is still more or less an ongoing process. I also decided this would be a great time to switch jobs to a new employer. My new job allows me some flexibility, but also requires a lot more of my attention.

On top of that, the DB has been a bit busy. There was a Pro Bowl overlapping with Seasons and a few strings of RP competitions going on at the same time.

Also, I’ll be bluntly honest. RP is doing really well. Members of all different experience levels and from different Clans are comfortable running and setting up RPs. I’ve provided each Consul with a breakdown of Clan performance metrics for RP activity, so feel free to ask them for more about that if you’re curious.

This report will be short, but mostly as a set up to my next, Wally-typical report.

Open Positions

I’m once again opening apps for Exarch Staff. We’re going to be having a bit of rotation, but it all depends on how much interest we get with applications.

I wanted to formally thank Bril for joining the team the other month, and he’s been fully briefed on the admin and has some exciting ideas I’m looking forward to seeing put out there.

That said, we always need more advocates for RP activity.

We’re looking for additional staff to help with the Exarch’s mission. For anyone that misses hearing me talk in different chats on Discord, I’ll summarize it real quickly here: the purpose of the Exarch is to promote and support Role Playing activity in the Brotherhood. My primary goal is to make sure everyone is able to easily run and participate in RPs, and that everyone has a good time. Outside of that, however, there are some administrative challenges, housekeeping, documentation updating, and of course, managing my staff of awesome people. Now is your chance to join that team and lend a hand to our goals.

The most important thing I’m looking for in our next staff member is a desire to contribute to creating more RP opportunities for the club. I don’t care what rank or experience you have, just that you have a passion and desire to make the RP Society one of your primary focuses, beyond just joining RPs as a player.

While I’d prefer to get a member not already on multiple staffs, or high-level Clan leadership, everyone should be encouraged to apply if only so I know you’re interested. You will be expected to help create RP activity by:

  • Creating DB-wide RP activities by either running or co-DMing for members that are excited to run something but might need some extra support.

Additionally:

  • Expected to be a champion of RP activity, encouraging others to get involved, and answering questions about policy that people might have.
  • Process and review RPs as they are finalized.
  • Contribute to policy and project discussions.
  • Bonus points if you’re not afraid of using the Wiki to help with the Envoy Corps and its associated pages.

If you are interested and think you can do the job, apply. Even if you’re not selected, it shows interest and lets me know that you want to possibly be involved in future things.

As an additional benefit, members of the Exarch Staff automatically accrue Golden Envoy Marks during their tenures on staff. This is done because you’re expected to be helping run and organize RP activity for others.

Please send all applications to: [Log in to view e-mail addresses] by Saturday, November 22nd.

I wanted to make a quick note about something that came up in chat. The Envoy Corps, fictionally, is just something for us to play with narratively inside of our sandbox. The RP Society is coded and exists mostly for you, as a member, in regards to awards and unlocks. Fictionally, though:

Guided by the Exarch, the Envoy Corps tackles bounties, contracts, and missions that burnish the Brotherhood's reputation among the galaxy's power players. Renowned for their expertise and shrewdness, Envoys deploy in diverse pairs or teams, drawing upon specialists from all seven clans and their associated allies. With conditional advisement from the Emissary or Herald, the Envoy Corps seeks to bolster the Brotherhood's standing with its current and potential allies while countering propaganda being spread by their adversaries.

What this means is that Envoys are more like Adventuring parties, not diplomats, and The Exarch is a Guildmaster giving out assignments. They are a receptionist desk admin. They do not get to create the missions, they are just organizing, executing, and managing the cross-clan teams, which means they take cues from the Council. Envoys being successful ultimately makes the Brotherhood look good, but it’s not the Envoy Corps itself that is going on diplomatic meetings to shake hands and sign treaties. The way it currently is coded, this means that thematically Herald and Emissary are actually the diplomacy side of things.

Envoys adjusts sunglasses—we get the job done.
